Look what Iowa States new coach is doing.

Iowa wants to be Iowa State in men’s basketball. Iowa State wants to be Iowa in football. It’s how it’s been for two decades. Likely isn’t changing anytime soon.

This game tonight is not typical of what most reffing crews allow for contact. Without a doubt it was decided pregame this level of physicalness was going to be allowed.

It’s very physical, and both teams have adjusted to how it’s being called. This is a great game to watch if you enjoy defense, especially physical defense which is what my original post was pointing out

The further you go in the tournament the more physical it gets.

I don’t know how you can even ref a game like this. Every possession, every shot, is contested. Every single play there’s contact of some sort. If they call a foul every time down the court, which they could, everyone would say let them play. If they don’t then they say they’re letting it get to physical.

There is no comparison to watching Iowa State and Houston battle, they are by far the toughest teams in the country on defense. It’s truly a different level
Well like Seth Greenberg just said the refs have pre decided this game will be called like a football game lol

“Every possession, every shot, is contested”

That effort is fun to watch

BUT when these teams get into the tourney they might be all fouled out in the first half based on the ref drawal

And according to Seth he thinks Kansas plays the best offense and defense in the big 12 i disagree but he made it a point in the pre game before state vs houston

Hey seth how about talking about houston and iowa state ?

So i will bite i think Fran does not want to be defensive but he is stirving to be 60/40 offensive to defense and we have the horses with Dix and Freeman in our future

I’m just saying Iowa state has been much more successful with men’s basketball. And Iowa has been much more successful than Iowa State at football these past two decades.

Say what you want but if ISU wins this would be probably the best win anyone has had all year.

That said, this is insanely physical it’s hard to watch.

All of Houston’s dudes have the exact same build and bulk. Matched with their defensive intensity and rebounding, easy to see why they’re so tough.

Agreed they wont face another team like this until they meet up again in b12 tourney

I have to think that deep-pocketed booster friend of tj finances this roster at a higher level than swarm does...much higher.
Omaha alone had to get a good payday.
I wish Iowa had a billionaire benefactor.

Isn't Green the defensive specialist? That's is aj's dad right? No wonder they pounded iowa, their d is something else

I didn't think TJO was a great hire at the time.

Boy, was I wrong.

Not sure what the draw to ISU is, but being in the best MBB conference in the country sure helps.

I did. He was the brains behind hoiberg at Iowa st. Won the Summit league twice in 3 years at South Dakota. I was hoping he’d hang on at unlv until Fran called it quits

This style of play is not new to the Big 12. There have been multiple national champs and runners up from the big 12 over the last several years. The big 10 overall is incredible soft compared to the strength and depth of the 12 and it has shown in recent trips to the tourney.

From afar, it's a small amazement that a state like Iowa has a top 10 WBB and MBB team in its borders. (Hi Minnesota!)

OP’s math skills are up there with Logic’s.

Fran makes $3.2 mill in year 14. TJ makes $2.5 mill (1/3rd by OP math) in year three (8th overall year as a head coach).
Bad info doesn't equal bad math skills. I should have confirmed the salary numbers.
I thought Fran was still at 2 million. Lol
Not sure where my brain saw that TJ made around 700k.
No op doesn't think that 2.5 is 1/3rd of 3.2.
