Los Angeles On Fire

How do you not politicize this level of incompetence and grift? >

They're not "out of water" they just can't replenish the water supply fast enough to keep up with a city that has multiple active fires.

It would've been this way forever. City infrastructure problem. So it's odd to pin it all on her.

Stupid argument. 0/10

exactly, this is a not a supply problem, it's a distribution problem. And as you say, no one likes to invest in distribution, even if it has been at the heart of the most significant economic leaps in the country's economic history.

ROFLMAO at anyone that thinks there was any measure of planning or public safety infrastructure that could have averted this disaster. Brush and forest fires that are whipped along by sustained winds of that magnitude are unstoppable. I give the public safety folks a lot of credit for sounding the alarm to evacuate early, loudly and often. It seems to have limited the loss of human lives up to this point which ultimately is the most important thing in these situations.

I certainly hope that these fires were not deliberately set, that would be very disappointing but perhaps not a complete surprise either. There's a lot of shitty humans in this world.

Defend what? I'm saying what the problem is and isn't based on upon the evidence available to me.

The main problem in LA right now seems to be infrastructure based and it's been that way forever.

An extremely expensive and time consuming fix.

Tell you what, I'll blame the people that were presented with proposals to fix this problem but declined to do so.

All of them over the years. Go find them and bitch them out.

There are probably zero US cities (or any around the world) who would have the infrastructure in place to deal with anything close to this.

Louisville & Superior CO certainly didn't when the Marshall Fires hit them w/ 80+mph winds and flames a few years ago. I got the first-hand videos from people who were handling those blazes.

This Is Fine GIF
The fires never get close to me.

I agree it would be pretty uncommon.

That said, depends on the perceived level of risk for this sort of catastrophic event for your location.

That said II, I'm not sure how much of a difference more operational hydrants would've made.

I haven't been this pissed off at Trump in quite a while. Fires are consuming entire neighborhoods. Cali looks like a hellscape. The videos are shocking in their magnitude.

And Trump spreads lies and plays politics in the most juvenile way possible. It's sickening what he's doing.
The next time you and the left wait for facts before playing politics after a disaster/mass shooting etc... will be the first. Save your fake outrage for the next disaster you can blame on repubs.

'We have seen individuals burglarizing and looting homes': L.A. County Board

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger said at a news conference that officials have witnessed looting and the burglarizing of homes in vulnerable communities during the wildfire crisis and assured that those responsible are being brought to justice.

...Speaking of "lack of infrastructure investments"....(which are possible thru local property taxes)...

I don't get it. He asked for private -- not public -- firefighters. That would be consistent with his position.

Crying for public help would've been hypocritical.

The only reason he'd need "private" firefighters is because there aren't public resources in place... (which wasn't gonna make much of a difference here, anyway).

"Will the lifeboats be seated according to class?"

well, there were things that could have helped, like (more) giant pipes from the outflows and inflows of the water facilities to facilitate faster replenishment, but who in the last 50 years wants to invest in that sort of thing? I mean, seriously, just go over to the football board and see how many people talk about improving the defense.

Redevelopment here will be interesting. Honestly, when it comes to the check they'll be writing, if the feds had brain one, they tell CA to **** off and send in USAID redevelopment types to run the projects. Especially since it (wait for it) "like a war zone".

Side note, was reading a piece in Hollywood Reporter that quoted Mark Hamill describing things as being like a war zone ... after the 1993 wildfires.

Maybe if it had been caught at the very earliest stage of ignition. I think anything short of a record breaking tsunami would have been like pissing into the wind once it gained momentum.
