Los Angeles On Fire

Trump was president from 2016-2020. California was spending many millions every year on trying to prevent large fires. Clearing brush, old growth. But California has 33million acres of forest. More of those than not being federally owned.

What did Trump and the republicans do to improve the already existing effort ongoing in California?
Trying to stop the California High-Speed Rail (HSR) project that now has estimates to cost between $89 billion and $128 billion. 15 years later still no tracks. Just need another 8 years. 😆 🤣 😂 😹

Such a stupid argument. As if anyone with a brain would conclude that DEI and immigration policy kept California from addressing infrastructure items.
Also, can blame environmentalists who blocked normal forest management practices like removing dead brush, thinning out trees, and some controlled burns. Additionally, in an attempt to save one fish species, some reservoirs were drained into the ocean resulting in low, to no, pressure in fire hydrants. Lastly, during the pandemic, the city of LA let 113 firefighters go who refused to get the COVID vax. I bet they would like to have those extra fire fighters now.

What did Trump do last time he was president that helps California? Well he lowered taxes for one thing on the entire nation. Made policy about the border that worked. He helped to put an end to the defund the police movement in the nation... might not have worked in California. He also had an energy policy that helped the entire nation. He also had low inflation. I'm sure California resisted all of this because they are communist.

Five people are confirmed dead. That’s pretty good for the scale of these fires and the number of people who refused to evacuate.

I’m curious what mitigation you’d recommend.
For a start, for many years common sense Republicans have pleaded with the California DEI powers that be to institute forest mgmt techniques like removing dead brush, removing some smaller trees, and some controlled burns. All of which were blocked by environmentalists. 🤔

Tell me what you can do in your “free” state that I cant? Get an ob/gyn apt for my wife? Watch porn? Buy weed legally?
How about obtain homeowner’s insurance much easier/more inexpensive than California homeowners, many of whom reportedly weren’t able to even obtain such insurance.

Casually watching the local feed from LA on YouTube and the emergency services just sent out a phone alert to evacuate for the entire LA metro, in error, but expect heavy traffic in LA in about 15 minutes

Wow on Good Day LA the guy is reporting from palisades fire and all the homes are grounders except one that looks untouched because it was built with fire resistant materials… although that home owner will literally be the only person or family living in the entire neighborhood, among piles of fire damaged homes for likely 1-2 years.

Guess those conservative policies are to blame for Florida and North Carolina getting wiped out. Silly cons should have had preemptive measures in place to mitigate hurricanes from happening. Red state… run by red politicians… red policies.
Apples to oranges comparison…as hurricanes are an unpredictable weather event. Whereas, forest fires are ever present in California. There are certainly various pre-emptive mitigation procedures that could have/should have been done.

Of course it's not Trump's fault. My point is that if he wanted to have an impact on California's fire risk he had a great path to it via all the federal lands that make up the state. He could've made that a focus in his first stint as president.

The question is whether he made it a priority at all, if he paid any attention.
Yeah hard to tell what his focus was with the Dims trying to impeachment him in year 2 and that bug going around, I think they called it covid.

Dims should of went full force on california fire management instead the waste of time on impeachment.

Why do you think that was?

This is how you let the board know you are a stoop without posting you are a stoop.
You are woefully ignorant of the mitigation procedures in place.
Now, if you could help with the long term drought, things would be better. Hans/dunce.
I’m not going to reiterate everything I and others have said in this thread to refute your blather.

So the infrastructure and threat has been there for many decades. (republican or democrat leadership in state) And this is the first time this happened.

What does that mean?

And what do you mean workers have stopped most efforts to clear forests of debris? Link?
Put on your big boy pants and look for yourself. Between protecting the fish and the mice in the forest that was a no no.

Do they?

Seems like they had to rely a ton on federal responses and outside states....
IMO, they don’t. NC has a good governor. FEMA and the feds were in NC quickly.

Fl relied on utility companies from out of state. Just as we had to in CT 10-15 years ago.

Out of state utilities were able to reach FL much faster than in CT, due to the roads and bridges.

Nevertheless, we were without power for the same amount of time in both states. But Sandy gifted us with a snowstorm after a hurricane. I doubt FL could have handled it.

The difference. In CT, the D’s and R’s worked well together.

How craven and worthless do you have to be to say something like this?

“NO WATER IN THE FIRE HYDRANTS, NO MONEY IN FEMA. THIS IS WHAT JOE BIDEN IS LEAVING ME. THANKS JOE!”
You mean…to say the truth.

you totally missed the point.

The point was they they do controlled burns in CA.

The point is that people go from all over the country to participate.

But your assumption that I’m from North Florida shows your ignorance.

Carry on though.
We had a few controlled burns here in the Jacksonville area today.
The level of preparation and monitoring by the State is amazing.
