Both are pretty talent rich states with lots and lots of great talent coming out if these 2 schools

Fox has numbers for each school. I bet 100% the $ is better with the schools not being Stanford.I would place Stanford ahead of both of those schools and I my wager is that every Big Ten university president would also - they vote on membership applications, not the ADs.
What dollars? Academic research dollars contribute far more revenue to the conference than revenue generated by sports. Research money flowing to the Big Ten Academic Alliance exceed $10B last year..Fox has numbers for each school. I bet 100% the $ is better with the schools not being Stanford.
Both UW and OR are fine universitys. But Stanford has far more academic prestige and university presidents are academics first. Its sometimes easy to forget that application for Big Ten membership includes consideration of value added to the Big Ten Academic Alliance in addition to the Big Ten Athletic Converence.I would place Stanford ahead of both of those schools and I my wager is that nearly every Big Ten university president would also - they vote on membership applications, not the ADs.
It is about football. What dollars? Academic research dollars contribute far more revenue to the conference than revenue generated by sports. Research money flowing to the Big Ten Academic Alliance exceed $10B last year..
It is about football.
USC and UCLA generated 45% of the Pac 12 TV revenue. Those are the dollars that matter in conference expansion. Academics had little to do with conference expansion. What dollars? Academic research dollars contribute far more revenue to the conference than revenue generated by sports. Research money flowing to the Big Ten Academic Alliance exceed $10B last year..
Oregon has a larger TV footprint. Oregon gets ratings and Stanford does not.Oregon and Washington don’t have a large enough TV footprint. Stanford is the better choice.
Sure. I would say if Notre Dame had a demand for 1 team to come with them they would get their wish.IMHO, Stanford is the bargaining chip to get the domers in the big.
Clueless.Academics had little to do with conference expansion.
When Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland were added was it because of football or academics? When the B12 added BYU, Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston was it football or academics? When Oklahoma and Texas left the for the SEC was it football or academics? These moves have always been about football.Clueless.
UCLA, for instance, received 1.4B in academic research grants in 2020.
Adding more than $1B to the BTAA on an annual basis absolutely dwarfs any sports revenue UCLA is going to contribute to the conference.
Research grants fund important medical and scientific research conducted by the respective universities and their partners (Univ of Iowa Hospitals, e,g,), attract elite talent, and have a very positive economic impact on the communities where it is conducted.
I know this is a Hawkeye sports message board but believe it or not, approxiamtely 30,000 students attend the University of Iowa and do not participate in sports.
Location, location, locationFox has numbers for each school. I bet 100% the $ is better with the schools not being Stanford.
If location mattered why did Houston and TCU remain a mid major as long as they did? Oregon has larger fan base than Cal, Stanford, and Washington. Oregon will bring in more TV $ because of there national fan base and they get ratings. Getting people to stream your game matters more now than what market you are in.Location, location, location
Seattle and Bay Area > Oregon TVs
If its all about money, all those schools individually added at least 10X more dollars to the academic side than their football revenue provided, including football media revenie. Its not remotely close. When Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland were added was it because of football or academics?
Why do you think the 2 are mutually exclusive? To act like academics (i.e. research donations) arent a factor is being intentionally obtuse. When Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland were added was it because of football or academics? When the B12 added BYU, Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston was it football or academics? When Oklahoma and Texas left the for the SEC was it football or academics? These moves have always been about football.
For the Big Ten, it needs to be both. Nebraska was a head scratcher. Rutgers is a fine University as is Maryland. Don't compare the B12 to the Big Ten. They have completely different standards. When Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland were added was it because of football or academics? These moves have always been about football.
Actually, this has to be considered plausible. Not a bad play if this is happening.IMHO, Stanford is the bargaining chip to get the domers in the big.
You have not followed the research put into public domain about Oregon and Washington versus Stanford when it comes to athletics, particularly FB.Oregon and Washington don’t have a large enough TV footprint. Stanford is the better choice.
Fox will tell us. And soon. You have not followed the research put into public domain about Oregon and Washington versus Stanford when it comes to athletics, particularly FB.
Utah shoulda been top priority
Then send braska back where they belongOregon and Washington don’t have a large enough TV footprint. Stanford is the better choice.
Not about physical attendance. It’s tv.Utah has one of the best research and academic hospitals in the nation. They sellout their football stadium have a large fanbase and play a B1G style of football. Plus an away game at Salt Lake City 20 mins away from Park City would be a great destination for Iowa fans.
This.IMHO, Stanford is the bargaining chip to get the domers in the big.
Yeah ... you're not wrong. If its all about money, all those schools individually added at least 10X more dollars to the academic side than their football revenue provided, including football media revenie. Its not remotely close.
I'm not saying that football revenue is not a factor in evaluating an expansion candidate. It clearly is a factor.
But you confidently proclaimed that "academics had little to do with conference expansion". If money -and money alone - is the bottom line, your statement is laughable.
Ok commishIf location mattered why did Houston and TCU remain a mid major as long as they did? Oregon has larger fan base than Cal, Stanford, and Washington. Oregon will bring in more TV $ because of there national fan base and they get ratings. Getting people to stream your game matters more now than what market you are in.
The only standards the B12 has is a pulse and breathing, which is above the sec standard of a pulse. For the Big Ten, it needs to be both. Nebraska was a head scratcher. Rutgers is a fine University as is Maryland. Don't compare the B12 to the Big Ten. They have completely different standards.
Agree. Lived out there for 20 years. Lots of transplants who follow their alma mater/ regional teams. The locals are primarily into pro sports.People who thinks Stanford athletics brings a lot of viewers because they’re located in the Bay Area understand neither the Stanford fanbase nor the Bay Area.
Having lived in the Bay Area for a total of 17 years, I can guarantee you there are relatively very few people here who actually give a damn about Stanford athletics.
If Stanford is added to the B1G, it will be because of academic prestige and research dollars, not fans.
This.
Adding 4 more teams seems likely at this point. Stanford, ND, Oregon, Washington.
