Men's Freestyle Day One

Here's the thing about what DT said. He's right. J'Den spent the first 1:30 of the second period doing NOTHING.

Honestly, I think we should start listening to what guys are saying as opposed to how the statement makes you feel. It's kind of like athletes who tell a journalist "What have you ever done?"

I appreciate him saying what we are all thinking he's thinking.

DT should say it to his face, not via Twitter.

Don't think the hat fits him well. I could see this tweet from Downey or Oliver. He should be rooting on his countryman right now.
Dear David Taylor, just because he can beat you on one leg doesn't mean he can beat the rest of the world on one leg. Conversely, you're too talented to lose to someone with one leg...talk about a golden egg on a golden platter. You sound like Hillary Clinton right now!

He might be right but....
1. You don't say it mid competition
2. You leave out the fluff....golden egg, golden platter
3. Use a positive spin..."That doesn't look like the J'Den that I know and wrestled last month blah blah blah...

Eh. Personally, I like it. We all want to know what our athletes are thinking, and we got it.

I appreciate the metaphor. Again. I like that he's saying it out loud. Perhaps he could take a page out of Gilman's book and only answer when asked. But I get it. At the same time. It's totally sour grapes.

He may right, but he has no right to say it. Besides, let's unite behind USA wrestling for one week before things go back to normal.

Why doesn't he have the right to say it? He might have more right to say it than anyone. Cox beat him and beat him on some serious grit, but then doesn't do it at Worlds. He's pissed at Cox. Again, its nothing different than a coach would say to him, he just did it in public. Is it in bad taste? Maybe. But he's right and he does have the literal, legal, right to say it. I think it's just cool that we got to hear it. That doesn't happen a lot in the wrestling world.

I guess my point is. We love it when our Hawks do it. We shouldn't get our feelings hurt when someone else does it.

If they go to ten weights they probably won't be at the same one. 75,80,85,90 is what is being talked about. So you will have JB, Dake, Taylor, Cox all could win a world medal!
I hope this happens....freestyle wrestling has come along ways from almost being dropped from the olympics to possibly adding more weight classes....and the womens wrestling is growing....lots of positives

Well this is UWW adding weights. Olympics will still be same weights, but they did just shorten the number of qualifiers for each weight.

oh...still a positive....I know the olympics are considered the pinnacle but these world championship tourneys to me are almost more fun to watch....alot of politics involved with the olympics.... and horrible officiating

I disagree with the negativity. Oddly enough I finding myself agreeing w Jackson.

I mean come on Jden is going for the bronze medal. He didn't go 0-1 and is catching a flight home this afternoon. Remind me again what place he got in Olympics.

Back to back potential bronze world medalist, yet people still want to complain about his performances. People need to take a breath, not every wrestler has high octane or is a slick technician

It's hard to deal with the harsh realities of life when all you know is f*n and then the f*n ends (DT), but the machines are programmed to always be supportive of their peers. (TRam).;)

Sad on a day when the majority of HR and BWI and most every american wrestling fan out there is on the same page, supporting our guys no matter who they represented in college, that one of our nations biggest stars is sending pointed and insulting tweets to one of our representatives who, by the way, is still wrestling and competing for a medal. A medal, any medal even making it to a medal round, is an accomplishment that should be rewarded with the respect and appreciation of those being represented.

Proud of all our guys (and gals) this week representing our country. You are living your dream.

You can't hit a blast double on twitter.

no argument here....I personaly don't do the twitter....and honestly I think its kind of bad thing for people to express things to the world when they might not be having their best moments....cant take it back later when maybe you reconsider....social media has its pros and cons

Who is Tony Ramos?

Edit: I posted this before I read what Tony said on Twitter. I just did a 180 on the guy, class act. Kind of shocking because I EXPECTED that out of David Taylor.

looking at the schedule looks like medal rounds will be at 230 pm central....can anyone confirm? Ive been sitting here monitoring track and nothings going on....been up since 3am watching wrestling getting a little punchy....seems like 230 here would be pretty late in Paris?

Will there be a finals ceremony starting at 11:30 before the wrestling starts, or will it jump straight into the wrestling at 11:30? What time I take my lunch break depends on this answer :)

Trackwrestling says noon. Novak says 11:30. Which is it?

It's 7 pm France time. So yes, noon for you guys. (I'm east coast) Generally, no frills. They get right into the bronze matches. Short parade of the wrestlers, but that's it.

I think Tony is growing up and is coming around...these guys train their asses off and work for years to achieve their goal and have it crushed in one match....alot of emotions right after a match like that...I think the Brands know that and would welcome him back with open arms...he will always be a Hawk and was a great one...these guys are so young and get mics shoved in their face right after the most dissapointing in their career....people need to cut some slack....honestly I think Tony knows hes gone as far as he can in competition and has made peace with that and is turning to coaching....I think he will do well

"If he shoots for a brass buckle
He is already nervous.
If he shoots for a prize of gold
He goes blind
Or sees two targets –
He is out of his mind.

His skill has not changed, But the prize
Divides him. He cares,
He thinks more of winning
Than of shooting –
And the need to win
Drains him of power.”
-Chuang Tsu

Don't worry about the goal Thomas, just shoot!

Yep. I've been critical of Gilman comments before, but I never remember him talking trash about an opponent that just beat him. He's handled some devastating losses in his career very well.

I guess I define "trash" a little differently than you guys. He was telling the truth. Is it sour grapes? Sure. I guess I just appreciate him saying it aloud. It definitely makes him the moral bad guy, but I'm not gonna be pissed about it.

Holy $&@", we get it. No one agrees with you. It was in poor taste. The guy has been on one leg and is going for Bronze. Taylor lost, with Cox on one leg no less, and has been a baby about it ever since. Kid is a being a complete douche.
