Kids an absolute stud, built like a brick shit house, physically strong, very high ceiling. When I saw him win state his sophomore year I thought he’d look great in black and gold. He’s a bit on the short side, so maybe a career 149lber. Bout f*cking time we got some good news! Go Hawks!!!!

Who might you compare him to?

TIA

Yeah, great question. When I watched him at the state tournament this season, I thought his style reminded me a bit of Pat Kennedy. A shorter, more muscled up PK. Kid looks like a damn pit bull! He loves to wrestle in ties and hits a lot of short (no pun intended) offense. Lots of high Cs and outside singles. Explosive on bottom. Rides tough on top. Stingy defense and he can scramble a little bit. Kids a brawler no doubt. He’ll fit right in.

Areas where our staff will likely look to improve is his ability to turn guys on top. Haven’t seen much of a commitment from him there. Also his offense on his feet seems to come almost exclusively from tie ups.

I am unable to find who he beat in the 3 finals. Anyone find those results?

Someone had mentioned he only won 2 because there was no tourney his freshman year

For those who have Flo, here is a link to the Cali brackets from this year:

Little bit of story there. Estrada was the defending champ at the state tournament, but was seeded 2nd cause he lost to Poway’s Laird Root up at 152 lbs at the Battle for the Belt tournament. He dropped back down to 145 for the state tourney and so did Root. They met in the finals and Estrada got the W.

I remembered the match once I saw it again. TD in the last ten secs for a win.

Good news. But a little perspective .... according to FLO, the 2024 Big Board shows PSU grabbing 5 of the top 9 p4p recruits:

PSU: #2 Lilledahl
#5 Sealey
#6 Ryder
#8 Gibson
#9 Mirasola

With Estrada, Iowa got its first top 100 p4p guy, ranked at #24.

Iowa reaaaaaallly needs to step up the recruiting.

As picked over as this class this was this is certainly better than nothing but like you pointed out PSU loaded up with blue chips and Miguel more of a mid tier. Need the youngest Ferrari for sure.

In all seriousness Pat Lugo’s not a bad comparison, similar build and style. Pat’s a bit more stoic, Estrada’s a bit more fiery.
I watched a few of his matches on Flo. Definitely has our often recruited short and stocky build which I'm not necessarily bullish about. Obviously some guys can make it work well but it can often lead to a number of challenges vs lengthier opponents when it comes to getting in on people and mat wrestling. He is obviously a strong kid, his neutral game is ok, not a plodder but not super quick either. A good HC but as mentioned limited more to short offense off
ties at this point. Fairly defensive style. Has a year left so could make some gains. Seems like a body type and skill set that would lend itself to a lot of close low scoring matches on the college level.

Miguel still has a year to move up in the rankings. He shouldn’t be mid tier by the time he graduates from hs.
Very well could move up but his current flo rank of 24 is a 2024 class rank vs pfp among multiple classes so will have to impress to move up.

Thanks for sharing, now I don't need to go get my daily kick in the nuts elsewhere. This is getting ridiculous.
