My official take on Tuesday's results . . .

I've said it a million times, I said it in THIS COLUMN and I'll say it one million more - my opposition to Trump has absolutely nothing to do with politics. As I pointed out, I've known he's a racist, self-absorbed, lying, grifter since he was a DEMOCRAT in the 1980s and was called to task for it by a few brave publications in New York while the NY Times/Post and others suckled his balls.

The man is a pig of a human being, morally bankrupt and a cancer on this country. And would/will be regardless of having an R or D behind his name.

I do appreciate that you like the TwT column though! Thanks for reading :)
However, we’re NOT dating Donald Trump, rather we just want some common sense policies.

America is not special. Maybe was once. Hasn't been for some time.

And that's OK.

The sooner people come to terms with it, the better.
If it wasn’t special, maybe fewer people would want to migrate here. 😉 There’s no other country that I would want to live in.

I'm not going to badmouth anyone who wants to hunker down and hope for the best.

That's pretty much where I am now.

And like I said in the column, I'm 100% sincere in hoping me and every "Never Trumper" are all Chicken Littles.

The two things that give me the most pause, however, is that we are now definitely going to do nothing about climate change for at minimum the next four years if not longer - and we really can't afford that - and what will happen to prices if he actually enacts tarrifs and deports the majority of our agricultural workers. That will make the Biden inflation years look quaint.
I think the difference between a Biden administration and a Trump administration is that if a certain policy (for instance tariffs) don’t work, Trump admin would pivot and try something else as Trump is very success oriented. Seemed like Biden just stuck with failed policies, like the open border. Even Clinton administration was agile enough to adjust some policies “on the fly” that were unpopular/not working.

This will likely be my last politics-related post for awhile as it is now abundantly clear a majority of American voters cannot think rationally about governance.

So I'll stick to sports, booze, fishing and other topics that interest me for the time being.

But in case you are wondering what my take is on what just happened, feel free to read it here:

It’s hard being on the losing side of a vote, but for my part as a person living in a representative democracy, I will always be open to considering that the majority might see something I don’t. Sad that you may have lost that

First of all, keep in mind what Tory is, someone who married money and has done nothing substantial on his own. He is essentially a trust fund baby by marriage, not someone who knows what it is like to struggle to financially support a family like so many of the blue collar workers that are now Trumps base. Secondly, the irony of him having no idea that he just provided a sterling example of how Trumps rise has just as much to do with condescending liberals as Trump himself is hilarious.

So many words, so little substance.

And I hate Trump.

Ya know @torbee, word on your side was that Trump is going to lock up journalists and others. And iirc, I think you're something of a semi-retired one?

I sure hope your passport is up-to-date. I mean unless your side was just spewing propaganda, then ... whatever, no worries!

Torbee’s got a unique style of ‘journalism’.

Everything he writes seems like it’s straight out of a scorned, teenaged girl’s diary.

Super beta.

I’ll take the bait and respond to the cry fest and refusal to take any blame why your party got trounced. Ironic the whole trump will try to imprison his counter parts. Remember 4 years prior when he did that and even though he had the lock her up chants with Hillary do you remember all those on the opposing side he threw in jail? Yeah me neither. Meanwhile people literally campaigned against him promising to do just that.

The whole dictator comment was literally him saying to the ? Are you going to be a dictator “no, no, no other than day 1.” Which just like Biden and so many presidents before him enacting executive actions like the border his first day in office. You’d think being some type of writer you’d be above taking quotes out of context.

Talk of women’s rights but yet the left stays silent as men literally play women sports and if not for Supreme Court tried to re-write title IX. Which poll after poll shows Americans oppose men participating in women’s sports or being in their lockers rooms from youth to pro level.

Bring up Ukraine and chance of nuclear war. You forget zero wars during trumps 4 years and how many more last 4? But talk about abandoning a country ask all the women in Afghanistan, those citizens who helped us how things are going on top of the 75 billion left. And the excuse with trump had an agreement in place. Funny of all the things Biden agreed to honor from previous administration that’s the one thing which taliban broke the agreed upon things anyway. Love the left obsession with Jan 6th and one time you stick up for the police. I remember summer of 20’. How as law enforcement we were treated and violence me and my fellow co workers faced. Stories of friends out of state and horror stories and injuries people incurred. So spare me with that.

Lastly the whole threat to democracy but your party literally did a coup against sitting president and threw in a candidate that won 0 delegates 2x she ran for president. You lose the argument or have nothing left when you have to play the hitler nazi card. Hilarious coming from a guy who supported Bernie the socialist who loved the Soviet Union. I could go on and on. End of the day the MAJORITY elected trump (which by the way that’s part of democracy) and big part is they were tired and fed up with last 4 years. From inflation due to biden spending like a drunken sailor, catering to the woke, party of defund the police, and prioritizing illegals over our own citizens.

you lost and your post is like people on the football board on steroids complaining about how the refs lost us the game instead of taking responsibility and looking into the mirror and examine why my team lost instead of looking at what my team/party did wrong. Btw why trump won they learned from 20’ mistakes. By posting this don’t get butt hurt when people like me call you out. You brought it on yourself with creating a thread and posting your article like a sore loser.
You must have a short memory.

You seem to have forgotten what he did in Portland during the George Floyd protests. He had his "federales" in camouflage riding around at night in unmarked vans outside of their jurisdiction kidnapping people off the street with no probable cause and holding them for questioning and even worse. Will this become our new norm in a second term? Remember also in his first term that he had actual responsible people who tried to keep him corralled. He likely will have true sycophants guiding him this time around.

I'm just going to link to it because it is probably too large to copy and paste. Read this and tell us what you think.

Not sure what that’s supposed to mean. But I’m not going anywhere. And I’m not going to stop sharing my thoughts and telling the truth.

I didn't vote for trump and feel the same way about him, but I'm looking on the positive side of things. I'm in my low 60's and will retire in 4-5 years, so I really don't care how much debt he causes as long as my investments grow. Once I'm retired I'll just sit back and laugh knowing I won't ever have to pay the bills that trump created. I guess you can call me a grifter.
He’ll never top joe’s deficit. Never

People don't like to hear the truth.

They like fairytales and bullshit and reality TV.

That's why yesterday happened. Now we all deal with the consequences.
You are good at sports articles. Politically you need to see what happened to Venezuela.

It's simple, if you believed the rhetoric of the Dems you'd be quite nervous in that part of it was Trump is going to lock up journalists.

But you're not nervous, because obviously that was a line of pure bullshit. But, by all means, post away. My side does not support an Orwellian "Ministry of Truth" lol.

Maybe it’s not special to you but try telling that to millions of people who’ve immigrated here for a better life, the people who’ve died to protect our natural rights, the ability for social mobility and countless other reasons.

But I don’t expect you to understand. You’re not an average person who lives paycheck to paycheck. Wonder why that is? Maybe it’s because hard work and your wife’s business acumen allowed you to prosper. Must be a real shit country for things like that to happen.
Do you believe that Trump tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election?

Why would I be nervous? I’m not a journalist any longer.

Apparently trotting out Liz Cheney on the campaign trail was a losing strategy. Who knew? People want a candidate that will address the issues that they are facing - it was always about policy - the DNC failed spectacularly at this. "Not-Trump" was never a winning message.

Bernie said it best:

Bernie’s words are food for thought. But other than refunding workers some tax money and calling folks names, what do the Repubbers offer them? The Dems need to listen to their union folks and guys like Bernie for some new ideas. There is a helluva lot more to life than tax cuts…which eventually comeback and bite you in the ass.

The dems really f'ed up if the working-class people relate more to Trump. My theory is Trump woke up a very large population of lower-IQ Americans who normally would have nothing to do with politics. The folks who "want their country back" and believe everything the conman from NYC says.

Okay. I assumed so. Do you feel that those that know Trump tried to overturn the election and still voted for him have the best thoughts of America in mind?
I don’t think a lot of his base give a **** about the best intentions for America when they are struggling, poverty or living paycheck to paycheck.

I don’t like that Trump will be our next president and I think Trump supporters are misguided but I don’t hate them like many spout off on here

No one should hate them. They’ve been lied to and gaslit for years and are basically victims of a con. They were conned into electing a rapist felon president FFS!

My bride’s “ex” worked for Principal back in the ‘80’s and 90’s in their real estate and mortgage departments and he worked the east coast/New York City markets. Principal refused to have any business dealings with Trump or his “empire” because of his character flaws. To this day Trump is the only hotel owner in the history of the Las Vegas Strip who has ever been denied a casino license because of his financial history/ bankruptcies. Now understand this includes mafiosas and union racketeers who have owned numerous licenses to operate casinos in Vegas and on “the Strip”….
Quite an honor OUR President has ain’t it? Plus…. He managed to go bankrupt running a casino in Jersey! What an entrepreneur! Probably could have kept it afloat if he would have sold tennis shoes and Bibles!

The fact is that many people don't believe what you do. That doesn't make them bad Americans.

This will pass for you and I am serious when I say that I hope you arise from this malaise you seem to be in right now. Very little of what happens in Washington will affect you and Trump only gets 4 years so it is pretty unlikely that he fast forwards climate change into anything more than it already is.

Mark my words. He won't be a dictator. He won't be an autocrat. He won't take away gay rights. He won't pass a national abortion ban. He won't jail his political enemies. He won't expand the SCOTUS. He won't abolish the filibuster. I realize you will think that I am naive. I think you're paranoid.

The nation is now run by R's. We won the EC.. We won the PV. (By over 5 million last I checked) We won the Senate and will nearly certainly run the House. If they screw things up as badly as you think, you'll have 2028 to turn it all around and run a candidate that isnt KH.

I hope for restraint and governing from the mandate. It is easy to examine the exit polls and see what policies the Americans are for. Don't try to repeal Obama Care. Don't try for an abortion ban. Don't try to ban marijuana. On and on.

If the R's do this right, they could set themselves up for a nice run at governance. But if they do it wrong, and they have in the past, we will be exactly where you are right now, in 4 years.

But right now, for me and my fellow Trump voters, we deserve to enjoy the spoils of this win and I would hope that you can see that there are many like me that are just as normal as you and we have made a different choice. That is why we are a shining example and exceptional. It isnt because we are better than the world, as I suspect you think that is what we believe exceptional means when we say it. We say we are exceptional because that experiment that started in the 1700's has managed to survive moments such as these and yet we continue to live free, prosper, produce some of the worlds most amazing people, products, innovations the world has ever seen. Remember America is diverse because of its greatness and millions in the world, clearly, want to risk everything to get here.

THAT is why we are exceptional.

I know you dont want the pep talk and probably will tell me to GFM, but chin up man. It'll really be fine. Just bide your time like I did for 4 years and hope for better next time.

I was talking about his political rivals. But since you are on this subject to citizens I’m sure Biden never did anything like that. Oh wait he weaponized his fbi on parents at school board meetings with dissenting opinions. Speaking of Portland and federal building I’m sure you were all on board for prosecuting those rioters who caused a lot of destruction and injured law enforcement like on J6… heck your candidate supporting bail fund in Minneapolis during 20’ that released violent criminals who committed more crimes.

Good write up Torbee. I hope The Democratic Party takes a long look at everything that happened.

They certainly should be given a lot of the blame imo. Biden should have never ran for a second term to start with.

If we were able to pick someone not attached to Biden, I think that would have helped tremendously. I think Harris did about as good as anyone could have in her position.

They again failed to appeal to Republicans. It will be interesting to see where Dems go from here, I’m not too optimistic.
