Nebby's Asst Coach

NewSUSPENSION ANNOUNCED FOR KEITH WILLIAMS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, August 19, 2016

Lincoln, NE - The following are statements regarding the suspension of Keith Williams.

Williams was charged with misdemeanor DUI and careless driving following a traffic accident at 9th and N streets in Lincoln on Sunday, August 14. He has pled not guilty and his next court date is on October 24.

Following practice this morning Williams will make a brief statement and Nebraska Head Football Coach Mike Riley and Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst will be available to meet with the media.

HEAD FOOTBALL COACH MIKE RILEY

“Based on the information we have gathered to date and after consultation with Shawn, Chancellor Green and President Bounds, I informed Keith yesterday that he is suspended from work without pay until August 31st. In addition to his suspension from work, Keith will be prohibited from attending and coaching in the first four games of the season. Keith has initiated counseling and he has pledged to assist the department, University and greater community in educational and outreach efforts to prevent drunk driving. This has been a very difficult week for Keith, for his family, for our football program and for our Husker community. Keith has admitted his error in judgment and completely recognizes the harm that he could have caused with his reckless actions. Since his arrival in Lincoln, he has been an outstanding coach, mentor and leader, and I know that Keith will work hard to move beyond this incident and to regain the trust of those he has disappointed. We continue to educate our student-athletes throughout the year not only on the dangers of alcohol but also on the consequences of bad decision-making and I know that the events from this weekend will serve as powerful reminder of that lesson.”

DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS SHAWN EICHORST

“The seriousness of the allegation against Keith cannot be overstated and we must hold our student-athletes, coaches and staff accountable for their actions. The dangers of driving while under the influence are well documented and Keith’s conduct was reckless and potentially fatal. He has acknowledged his failings and accepted responsibility. Keith is a well-respected and trusted member of the Husker Family and we will support him in the coming days and weeks to strengthen his life. It is my hope that he uses this incident as a turning point and as an opportunity to teach our student-athletes, staff and greater community about making the right decisions.”

ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH KEITH WILLIAMS

“Words cannot fully express my deep regret and profound remorse for my actions this past weekend. I want to apologize to my family, the Nebraska family, the young men in our football program, Coach Riley, Shawn Eichorst, Chancellor Green and President Bounds for any harm that I may have caused this phenomenal institution. Over the coming weeks, I plan to begin to make amends and to engage in personal counseling to assist in my journey. I understand there is no room for error for me at Nebraska and I am going to work hard every day to prove that I am worthy to represent the Huskers.”

I totally agree, however; when a leader of young men continue to sweep this under the rug without any consequences it is in fact a major problem. I am also saying that Iowa is not innocent of this either. ie steve alford.....however I do not think this would be the case with KF, in fact didn't he dismiss several players a few years back for a similar situation as that in Nebby.....while Nebby players suit up and play that very next saturday.

Pretty sure Coker was suspended for allegations of sexual assault which turned out to be false. Fine line to ruin somebody's college career purely from allegations.

3rd string guard would be gone, nice priorities

15 years. One team has 5 top ten national finishes and the other has zero.

One also played in the (lol) b12

(Wisconsin just scored again)

25 years...one team has 3 National Titles and two losses in two other National Title games and the other team hasn't done diddley squat.

I googled dui penalties for Nebr. and with a second offense with a failed breathalyzer test lic. is revoked for a year. For a drivers lic. reinstatement, participation in a program is generally required but is at the discretion of a judge. No big surprise.

The counseling will likely be legally mandated and was undertaken by the coach. Nebraska is requiring some community service outreach on this issue however.

Just to be clear, he isn't allowed to coach in the 1st 4 games. He is still allowed to coach in between those games.

So basically he gets 2 weeks with no pay and misses first 4 games with Fresno St and Wyoming being first two but still can do everything else work related from Sunday to Friday. This isn't a one time lapse of judgement for him. 3rd time and counseling is all the seek. Guy has a problem and Nebraska just gives him a slap on the wrist. Guess I'm not too surprised.

My question is what happens after time his October court date if he is found guilty? Sure if he gets jail time be in off season.

I saw the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. Do you think he'd get jail time for that?

This quote from Eichorst is great:

"It is my hope that he uses this incident as a turning point and as an opportunity to teach our student-athletes, staff and greater community about making the right decisions.”

Hey Shawn, this is his 3rd DUI. His 3rd!! He obviously learned some valuable lessons on the first 2.

Absolutely disgraceful this guy still has a job

Yeah, they really put the hammer down. He'll be out almost two full weeks, but will be back to coach in time for the season.

WHAT A JOKE.

Nebraska is doing this coach no favors here. He just got away with it again. Are they going to wait until he kills someone on the road before they suspend him for 6 games?

Seriously he needs to go buy a $50 breathalyzer attachment for his phone, I bought one to use when I go out boating... If I'm close then I figure out another way to get home. Not rocket science. Getting 3 DUI's doesn't mean he's an alcoholic, it means he's dumb.

Not to mention D1 assistant coaches get paid 200K+, probably could afford an uber, lift, or taxi....also not to mention this occurred at 2 AM during fall camp....way to be a positive role model to these young men, actions speak louder than words. It is unfortunate for the Nebraska faithful because most interactions I have had with Nebby fans on games days have been very positive (not message board heroes though). I only say this because the coach was able to get some pretty good verbal commits at WR for next year and you know this will be used against them by some schools in recruiting. Not to mention if myself or my son had verbally committed for next year I would be looking else where or telling my son to look else where. MR has been there one season and has already had too many distractions, proven he is not consistent or even just in his discipline, puts winning above all else, and to make matters worse didn't even pull a .500 season. I also found it humorous that BTN pretty much said their practice was soft compared to other programs in the big ten and TD said realistic ceiling for this team is to win a bowl game.....

You girls keep having your little panty, tickle fight. I'll be back around the time iowa plays NDSU. That looks to be the toughest game of iowa's "absurdly easy" non conference schedule. Better say your prayers every night that CJB doesn't get hurt. Iowa football is to Nebraska football what Canada is to the USA. See you soon little bro.

So it would take 12 DUIs for him to get suspended for the whole season?

We kick your ass in every sport. We are the bigger school, we are the more prestigious school.

Who's this little brother you're talking about? I mean, even ISU is a bigger school than Nebraska.

No mention yet of Johnny Rogers? He holds up a convenience store and convicted of using a gun in a robbery and wins a Heisman. Perhaps is was a national championship year - I don't know and DGAF.

Now he is trying to get his conviction removed from his record so he can get a liquor license.
Why so he could rob himself?

You'd think least weekend in jail. I know most people in Iowa spend couple days maybe week max in jail for 2nd or 3rd. I think able to reduce to misdemeanor cause most breathalizers have a margin of error of +/- of .005. So if someone here blew .084 those people still have shots of saying under .08 with margin of error and sure he got a good lawyer who was able to reduce the charges.

Maybe you guys better do the same for Tommy "Int" Armstrong. We saw how good the Huskers did without him against Purdue last year. Funny cause you keep using that as your excuse why you guys lost to Purdue, that and you gave up almost 500 yds too.

And if Iowa to Nebraska is like Canada to USA then those Canadians must be really picking up their game. As has been posted both teams have had very similar conf and overall records in 21st century. As been stated Nebraska more consistant and Iowa with higher highs and lower lows but you with this weak comparison just showed your naivety to knowing the actual facts and team records.

This is why armchair reactions from opposing teams fans crack me up, because you have zero idea of anything that actually happened. The girl was embarrassed because she had a 3 some videotaped with two guys at the players house. She was well aware of the taping of it. When it was all said and done the next day she was embarrassed and ashamed of herself. There were no charges for two reasons. A: nothing happened that wasn't consensual, and B: they had proof of it being consensual because it was on video tape. The police saw the video and that's why no charges came of it, or any suspensions because nothing even remotely was against the law. By all means though keep speaking as if you know something lol.

DO you have a link as to where you got this "factual" information?

You weren't even born yet

I went to my first game in 1969 so I've followed 5 National Title teams. If you could live to be a thousand years old you still wouldn't witness 5 Iowa National Titles in football...hell you'd be lucky to witness one.

You are Minnesota. Actually Minnesota should be held in higher regard based on your logic. They actually have seven national titles all 7 as irrelevant as what Nebraska has done.

I hate to tell you but the 15 year cut off Iowegians like to use isn't relevant either (It's blatantly obvious why you like to use 15 years). What makes sense is the years both have been in the same conference. Why don't you crunch those numbers...you won't like the results.

Oh, you're still talking the 1900's. Do you think Nebbers will still be talking about the 1900's in the year 3000?! I do too.

Whats up you get banned on that weak ass Nebraska rivals site?

Think of how we measure time. Then think in terms of thousands.

Let's do the math...Minnesota has 669 wins and Nebraska has 880. For Minnesota to equal Nebraska they would have to win 211 straight games and Nebraska would have to lose 211 straight games, but other than that you're right the programs are equal.

I could see Neb losing 211 straight. Especially if they keep Reilly around.
