Nebraska PBP

Surprising that Sammy took the same shot that got him in that front headlock the first time. Dudley worked for the near side cradle the first time and didn't get it. Sammy gave him a second chance. Lesson learned, hopefully.

Shouldn't the final score be 4-2?

EDIT: Should have read Vall's post first. Sounds like they awarded a point for NE with only 1 stall call on Burak.

Iowa has won the dual unless we get pinned and lose a point. 18-11
this was the last major hurdle on B1G schedule. Hopefulyl they win the rest.
Stoll vs Jensen.

By the way, the stall call on Burak was bunk. He had just kicked out of the treetop single leg and his momentum took him OOB. Bogus.

Wow. Not good in many ways, but Big Ten seed probably the biggest.
Who else had beaten Sammy in the Bigs? I do not think it really matters that much. He will be the number 2 seed intend of number 1. Assuming he doesn't loose to any other Big 84 pounders. How he does in the Bigs will affect his NCAA seed and be much more important than this match. At least that is how I see it. You never like to lose, but he will have plenty of time to redeem himself and set things straight.

My computer froze
But stoll is rubbing heads and grabbing for legs.
There have been two SW on Nebby for running away from TD
1-0 Stoll
"These are good calls and finally they are doing them"
"This mat is too small for Hwt"
Stoll has been good aggressive.
Stoll down to start second.

Jensen is a "legger" on top"
"They were worried about that"
Good ride for a Hwt.
Stoll sitting and Jensen has a leg aroudn the waist and holding his own leg.
30 seconds left
jensen has a lot of RT
"Need an esc"
Jensen almost NF
15 seconds
Sitting back into him
"Defensive fall?!?"
Nope but RV with about 5 seconds.
3-0
1:52 RT for Jensen

Jensen down
GRandby roll, esc
3-2 (I'll just add the Rt)
Now on the edge and Jensen flees again.
SW
4-2
Record attendance is 3,900 for Nebby.
Huh.
Stoll go behind/ around back for the TD!
Then out front Gable arm bar.
Cannot get it.
Trying the other arm
6-2
ridiing time under a min.
So 6-1
25 seconds
Escape for JEnsen
So 6-2
Jensen gets out
"You could call that SW too"
"Get another one"
He doesn't but still a win.
21-11 final.

My understanding is that is exactly the reason for the new oob stall warning rule. He used the edge of the mat for defense.

Actually, you make a good point. I guess my main concern is his seed at Nationals, but if he takes care of business the rest of the dual season and at Big Tens, he should be in pretty good shape.

Post game radio comments. Short summary. Ironside not real happy.

184 was bad
better here now than a month from now
No bonus points (in any match)
too many close matches (lists the scores)
Gilman should have been thinking cutting him
133 does not have to be that close
We have been talking about BS and that was the #5 guy but still he could have scored more
Carton at 141 wrestled a good match except for the NF
Rhoads didnt look all that great. he didnt do himself any favors
Need to get on the offense.
I don't know what the problem
No takedowns in Meyer match
he wants to be an AA- then he needs TD
Burak was okay
Burak thought is was supposed to be closer.
I've nver seen Burak skate like that
My gut hurts by that.
Stoll wrestled well.
Maybe get out of the bottom faster.
When he did get out he scored another TD
Pretty good for Stoll and for Gilman.
Not so much in between.
For sure.

Thanks Voll....great job

One of the announcers kept saying Micah Burak

I noticed that. I'm guessing he knows Micah and his name was just slipping out inadvertently. I missed his name, but he sounds like a post-grad guy who's still training. Was talking about how he trains in the NE room. Did anyone else catch his name?

By the way, the stall call on Burak was bunk. He had just kicked out of the treetop single leg and his momentum took him OOB. Bogus.

Dude, like it or not, that is the rule. You flee OOB, regardless of the circumstance, and it's a stall. A similar call was made against IMar yesterday. You don't to like the rule, but don't blame the ref, who is just enforcing the rule.

I think our coaches know their guy...Bet Cooper doesn't take much sh*t and is not much of a talker about it. Hey TR, you catching this stuff? Nebby even got a point deducted.
I agree. I think they were Johnny on the spot, just in case.

Iowa scored a total of:
  • 3 first-period TDs
  • 13 first-period points
  • 2 NF points
  • 0 pins
  • 0 bonus-point matches
Too much wasted time, standing around, not pushing the pace, not forcing the action, not taking re-shots, hanging out in the front headlock waiting for the stalemate, holding onto slim leads in the 3rd period. Basically everything that Ironside said, but I'm strongly agreeing.

For a team that desperately needs to score bonus points to win NCAAs, this was frustrating to watch.

(Thank you, Gilman and Stoll, for not making me go completely off the deep end.)

agree with all tarp, second match of the weekend on the rode saving our energy for end of year blah blah blah.

No, that's not the rule. If normal action takes you OOB it's not fleeing, and not stalling.
