NW / IA PBP

Warner starts on top and get quick escape and almost runs into a TD but misses.

Jacob reshoots and gets TD Cuts him right away.

Reaches for an ankle pick and gets another quick TD. for Warner.

Warner drops down to the ankle and lassoes him up for another TD.

Brands tells him work the ride. Stall against NW means another point.

Jacob wins 11-2.

Iowa leads 30-6.

If we get 9 AAs we are getting more than 90 points. We can get 90 points from Kem, Eirman, Bull, Warner and Cass alone.

If Bull would have won last year those 5 would have done just that.
I love the optimism and wish a shared it. Kem has one arm. JE has wrestled like a r12 at best and the Bull has the toughest weight class in recent memory(with 5 guys capable of beating him). I see those 5 closer to 70 than 90. I really hope you’re right though.

Lol And the announcers did grow up closer to Abe’s neck of the woods, right?! Wonder if they knew something no one in Iowa had caught onto yet?! 😂
Just said the same! He’s from right down the road.. I’ll stand corrected the next time I run into old honest Ah-bay…

#5 Tony Cassioppi for Iowa vs #12 Lucas Davison.

Great action off the whistle.

Scrambles, splits. and finally PD.

NW crowd is pissed.

Tony was in some trouble.

Refs are looking at it.

Tony's knee was all the way up to his ear. Full splits.

Debating lots of possibilities, none of them good for Tony.

Davison gets a TD but no NF points.

NW leads 0-2.

Tony gets to his feet but gets flattened down.

Tony scooting hips back building his base.

NW pulling arm wide.

PD choke hold on NW.

NW throws in leg, gets to his feet, gets hands and escapes.

Trails 1-2.
Davison is tall and athletic.

Tony throws him to his back for a one count and a TD.
Working right arm. Cross face to an elbo.

Tony leads 3-2 after one period.

I think an argument can be made that there's a great chance that Penn State's big 4 all don't repeat as champs as well. I'd say RBY and maybe Brooks. A healthy and dialed in Eierman beats Lee, Amine can most definitely beat Brooks, and the way Kem is wrestling can major Starocci. I'm not saying Iowa is going to win it, but I wouldn't count them out. Plus Michigan will be tough in Detroit and will take points away from PSU.

Tony chooses down to start 2nd.

Tony breaks grip and escapes. Leads 4-2.

Snap by Tony, circles away then across.

Tony has right wrist. Doesn't follow thru with anything.

Tony snaps into a couple of front headlocks, stall on NW.

Tony and Davison exchanges snaps and big leg lift by Tony buy NW escapes.

Finger lock warning.

Tony leads 4-2 after two periods.

From your lips to God’s ears.

Tony starts down to begin 3rd period.

Davison escapes and trails 4-3.

Davison gets stall point against for back out of the mat.

NW bench gets warning. They didn't like stall call.

1:00 left in match.

RT not a factor.

Tony looking for an angle. Tony is normally pretty good here.

Ref calls SM. What?

Brands is barking at ref. Tony was working on something.

Tony gets a TD after a flurry and wins 7-3.

Iowa wins 33-5.

My arms are tired.

Much appreciated.

Post game with Tom Brands.
Tony kept chopping. Hit identical shots.
Sometimes we try to win with one TD and sometimes we lose by one point.
They set the tone on us at the start.
Gonna figure things out at 133.
Jaydan is resting.
Stay off them dad gum message boards. Don't believe what you read.
Trust that things aren't' a disaster.
Tony almost got his leg torn off. Good fight back,
Don't look past us.
We gotta get better.
Starts at Illinois on Sunday.

That's it.

“No disaster” on the DeSanto and Eierman front Brands says on post-game, though Schriever will go again on Sunday. Says people need to calm down on “the boards”. He’s reading this guys. ;)

Just a guess but maybe Desanto is out for awhile but will return by tournaments. Im not sure how you red shirt Ayala next year so lightweights likely a combination of Lee and Ayala next year. Maybe CS red shirts next year.

You just do. It’s been done time and time again.

Good to have @redbirdhawk back doing PBP. He’s long set the standard for this.

Crazy thing is. Even without Lee and Desanto we still have 10 legit AA contenders. And we may need something like that to win.
Brother, we're going to need more than that. 10 AAs without a couple of them winning it all and others placing high won't make it. PSU is looking really good with the moves they've made this last month or so...unfortunately!!

It’s absolutely crazy what some posters will say in the heat of the moment isn’t it lol
I wouldn’t know, I’ve never given in to the heat! 😆

I live by the wise words of the historically significant rapper, Coolio: “If you can’t take the heat, get yo’ ass out the kitchen… we on a mission!”

KY starts 3rd period down.
KY bounces up and gets put back down twice, gets hand control and escapes.
Kaleb snaps into a high crotch, cuts across and gets TD.
Chumley's been cautioned twice.
KY now has RT.
KY keeps his hips into Chumley.
Stall warning on Chumley for grabbling the edge of the mat.
Chumley rolls thru but nothing.
Now lots of action by both wrestlers.
KY has arm and pulling back behind him.
KY very aggressive.
KY keeps riding hard with arm control.
KY comes from behind for 6-4 victory.
Intermission break.

Iowa leads team score 9-6.
Great PBP...thank you!! :)

Listen to Grace and sometimes Ironside on kxic on iheart.
Not sure if you mean to listen instead of those guys, or if you’re saying they’re both biased, so I’ll respond to both since they’re both fair points.

I almost always do listen if I can’t watch, but my stream and the radio are hard to sync up, and I usually get impatient after a commercial and give up. I’ll keep it on low in the back or pause and try to keep them together, but just didn’t feel like bouncing our newborn and trying to do all that tonight. But you are right.

If it was a bias comment, I’d just expect the TV to be a bit less so than a Hawkeye sponsored radio broadcast vs conference sponsored TV one.. 🤷‍♂️

Either way it’s not a huge deal. I just also relish the opportunity to use the name ‘twatwaffle’..

Murin clutch takedown!! That’s a solid win for Max. Seeding win for sure!

Thomas got one takedown them shut down. It was odd. I was screaming for Max to take some shots in the second period, even some snaps and level changes, to get a stall warning. Fortunately it worked out.

Nice wins by Ayala and Murin; big for seeding.

Kem and Assad both put guys on their backs, which we haven't seen enough of this year.

I'm not that freaked out by pulling Schriever's shirt. Tom already pulled Ybarra's and Swafford's, and neither is starting. Everyone has an extra year to work with. It's odd but doesn't mean DeSanto is done.

"Gonna figure things out at 133" says to me that DeSanto's in the doghouse and Tom's willing to burn a shirt to stand his ground. It doesn't sound like something you'd say if he were hurt (there'd be nothing to figure out). (P.S., Tom, if you need help figuring things out at 133, I'm pretty sure I know the right answer.)

P.S. Schriever's gonna be like Penrith with that sweep single. Keep plugging away.

Match Note: Baby Hudson's first dual meet. He mostly paid attention to my face, but he learned some fun new words.
