Oct 31, 2022: Fran brings up putting Students behind the Benches (Beth wants students around the court). Future Renovation of Carver-Hawkeye Arena?

Both "keeping the big donors happy" and getting the "students all around the court" seems like an impossibility.
How many actual "big"donors are there? Are there so many that they couldn't fit into the lower section on one side and students on the other?

@Ladell-hawk , I see that you unfortunately fell for Tyerl_28's lies in the duplicate thread, where he falsely claimed that he recently attended a meeting headed by Beth on this issue. He typed that nonsense up just to bump that thread and in hopes that people like you would believe him & respond.

If this meeting actually happened, the meeting and what was discussed would have been covered by the Cedar Rapids Gazette, at minimum. Instead, not a word was reported by any media outlet. Tyler is a troll and a liar; simple as that.

The season tips off soon; it will be interesting to see how Carver looks.

Will the students get moved behind the benches and/or around the court (what Beth wants)?

And will they finally show up?

We'll soon find out.

How aggressive will Beth be in getting the students to go to the games?

Free tickets?

Free food?

Seated all around the court?

How far does she go?

I say it will be next year at the earliest, in the mean time, the students that don't show up, are going to miss an exciting team, shame of them!

Do you think CHA will be mostly full (with the exception of students)?
It depends on Fran, you know as well as I do that the coach Fran, doesn't always coach with the best of them, but the roster is full of players that could change the negative narrative of Iowa basketball.

Hopefully we get some big wins early where it creates some attendance momentum

don't expect this team to rebound better or to play good defense. it will save you a lot of grief. similar to expecting Iowa football to air it out.

stop your own madness.

No way this team is a worse rebounding team than last season. They will be much better on the glass.

What do tickets for students cost these days?

At that price, you might as well make it free (for both parties).

Tyler,

Why did you copy Sober's post from this thread and then paste & reply in the duplicate thread?

What follows is what you did. You are such a troll, it's not even funny. Don't you have anything more constructive to do with your time?

Nice first go imo. Personally I’d like to see that at both ends.
The other end is the wheelchair area so there is no way they get rid of that.

Their plan is to expand a section each year if the students show up and justify giving them premium seating.

Going to require two things imo. - a good team, and improved marketing towards the students.

There were times under Barta where they seemingly either didn’t care, and figured they’d just show up; or did marketing ideas at the last minute, causing minimal impact.

I’d also argue it would be a good idea to bring back the “midnight madness” they used to do when Alford was here. I was a student back then…GREAT turnout for those prior to the Pierce crap.

I take it all back, the two things Iowa was supposed to work on and improve over the summer, rebounding and defense. was evidently not addressed. With only one player at 6-10 and that be Owen Freeman, Iowa is really going to struggle when Owen is not in the game. There's no reasonable backup to replace Freeman and using Dembele or Traore, or worse yet, Even Brauns at the 5, well, it's going to be fun watching how Iowa will go against teams that have multiply 7 footers in their lineups.
Cooper Koch, Seyduou, Dembele, and Pryce Sandford all play mostly on the perimeter and it will be interesting if any one of these players comes forth and actually becomes a reliable rebounder when Freeman is not in the game. It could be a very long year. We'll see.

I mean come on. I've been critical of aspects of Fran's coaching but this is silly. Fran was hired at the worst part of program history over the past 60 years. The job his current boss hired him to do was get the program to respectable and do so while not cheating.

Watch the podcast/show linked to in the first post here. Fran provides a reasoned response when asked about the student section. There are considerations about what donors were promised in the renovations for Carver. Want those people to not give again? Screw them over on seating.

I 100% agree, and it sounds like Fran does too, that they need to improve the experience at CHA. I am not convinced that giving the students the prime seats behind the opponent bench would bring them out in droves. It might for conference season, but I'm not totally convinced it would short of paying students to show up to the games. AD needs to look at all options like giving away student tickets, etc., to get students in the arena and loud.

It is not Fran's job to improve the game day experience or get students moved behind the bench. The AD needs to do whatever it takes to turn CHA into a decent place to watch a game.
Dodger, not the worst in 60 years, the worst ever. Lick was the NCoY when hired. The Hair was the hottest coaching hire when Iowa ran of its career winningest coach. Twenty six years later we have not fully recovered. Remember this whenever one thinks firing KF or FMcC-it probably will fail and disastrous seasons will follow.
