At this point in the season, this is not unique to Iowa. UCLA had large sections courtside open earlier on Monday(?) and Oregon had lots of empty seats last night against Portland. But yeah, I would cut the student section back until the students prove that they deserve it. Problem is, they probably sold the tickets, the students just don't bother to show up until the conference season shows up, if they do at all. What should Beth do?
Do you give the students too many seats close to the floor, all around the arena, where it looks even worse than what we are seeing now?
Or, do you make it a smaller section for now (with better seats) and see if the students start filling that?

Would we get 1000 students a game? After the first 1,000 they could go with first 15 rows behind the basket and up to the baseline. That would get it loud and look great on TV. Put the band in there and call it good.
Do they plan to have some non con games played in Des Moines in the future?
Well Margaret has about a dozen open seats around her that they could use. What should Beth do?

Well take the team on the road for the preseason. Lot's of cities and fans would fill up the local arenas that normally don't get to see them.

Ehhh. Maybe not the Xtream Arena... Way too much room behind the baskets, when it's a bball court in there...
I sure hope so. If only to answer the question once and for all if that will help boost student attendance.@EagleHawk and @sober_teacher, we've been talking in this thread about putting the students behind the benches and all around the court for over 2 years now. Will Beth pull the trigger & actually do it?

I’d be okay with them being like $5/$10 per game so they’ve got some skin in the game.will good seats be enough?
or do the tickets need to be free, too, at least to start?
that way, you are giving them everything (except food). They are getting great seats at no cost. And then see if they actually show up?

Either way, they simply have to try something. I’d include better bus transportation before/after games as well.
When I was a student I was at hillcrest so I typically walked, but the bus schedule was always spotty.
Nothing recent, no.I look forward to hearing Beth's plan.
Have you heard anything about the Carver renovation?
Nothing recent, no.
