*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

Recruiting board has some pretty highly rated kids on it in Patterson, Nwankpa, Hinzman. It might be longshot but landing even 2 of those kids would lead to a really good class.
Of those guys, I only see Patterson as a possibility as that is if he visits this week. If we do not get him on campus soon, we will probably see him stay local to the SE schools.

I think Nwankpa is a possibility because of Iowa's NIL pitch. It seemed to resonate with him.

I'd be interested to hear why they have only offered 4 CBs at this time which all have committed to other places at this time. I wonder if they are waiting until senior film but it might be too late with a lot of them by then.

Sounds like 1 or more senior CBs might use their COVID year.
Anyone know what Xavior Williams’ eligibility looks like. Didn’t he redshirt and play 3 at UNI?

I’ve Moss is likely interested in using a COVID year as you mentioned.

He's technically a redshirt senior this season, but he'd be the next best candidate, especially with Hankins graduating and opening a starting role up.

I just hope that doesn't discourage anyone like Terry Roberts. I love that guy, always giving 1000% on special teams. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in being on the field at all, and just in being a Hawkeye.

I can’t really think of any true freshman DB’s that have started for Phil. Belton is really the only one that comes to mind.

Lots of freshman started and played as true freshman at Iowa. King, Moss, Johnson, Allen, and Hooker come to mind. I’m sure there are more during the Ferentz era as that’s one position group Kirk doesn’t have to worry about with Phil Parker in charge of the db’s.

It does have to do with this years recruiting… there are scholarship limits if you haven’t heard.

This, I count 13 db's counting Moss and Williams that could come back for the '22 season. And that doesn't count some walkons like Kyler Fisher who is making some noise. Plus couldn't Harris and Roberts take an extra covid year? They sure wanted Stokes and that was a miss but I'm not sure db is a huge need in this class.

Yeah everyone can take an extra year.
FYI Fisher was moved to LB per Wallace.
They will find a couple DBs I’m sure but I trust Parker

DB is not the same as CB.

They took ONE CB in 19 (Deasfernandes). They took Zero CBs in 20. You are saying three consecutive recruiting classes with a grand total of one player for a position there are at least two players on the field wouldn't be a problem? And if you can field a competitive team with walkons, why waste the 8mil plus they spend per year on scholarship players?

Kirk said that they plan on using the portal to recruit now. I can see potentially 1 CB/year from it with Phil's rep. It's also VERY early. It's still July. Iowa will have at least 1 cornerback in this year's class. Mark it down.

AJ Lawson is a CB. So if Moss returns that’s 5 scholarship CBs with at lest one true freshman.
They are going to get a CB or two in this class. But Parker is obviously ok with taking his time and finding what he wants. Who says they are only gonna have walkons at CB? That’s just hyperbole. Also there is the transfer portal to fill holes.

I agree. I suspect they take at least two.

There are currently six scholarship CBs on the roster

Williams-sixth year
Hankins-fifth year
Roberts-fourth year
Moss-fourth year
Harris-third year
Deasfernedes-second year.

Williams and Hankins will be gone next year. If Moss has an NFL future, he may be gone, too. That will leave 3-4 CBs on scholarship in 2022. List the P5 schools that have four CBs on scholarship, please.

Does Williams count as a sixth year player if he didn’t play last season?

Doesn't matter what he counts as. This will be his sixth year out of HS. I don't recall a seventh-year player although I think Kyle Kempt was thirty when he lost to the Hawks in 2018.

As mentioned before…..RS freshman AJ Lawson is also a cornerback.

It absolutely counts if he still has eligibility. He didn’t play last year and there’s the whole covid year. Not sure if that would mean anything for eligibility remaining or not, which is why I was asking, especially since others have suggested he could return another year if he wanted to. This past year has probably brought about a lot of situations with players that people “don’t recall”.

Even if he did come back and play when he was 25, it doesn't change the issue of who is there in 23 and 24. 24 will be the third year for guys in the current cycle. Deasfernedes would be the only current scholarship CB other than true or RS freshmen if they don't sign any CBs this year. I am confident they take two. Likely the kid from WL is one.
