*****Official B1G Baseball Tournament Games Thread. #3 IOWA vs #1 Maryland, Sunday 2:00 PM CT, BTN*****

Illinois finally broke up the scoreless game. Top 5 and Illnois is up 1-0, Indiana brought in yet another pitcher Whiteaker.

i am not watching.

For myself and others not watching: Can you (or anyone else reading this) explain what Indiana is doing? Ie, did they start a relief pitcher and are only using relief pitchers? (If so, why wouldn't you use your best guy, because do you really want to lose your first game and face elimination right off the bat?)

I am assuming Illinois started their best starter?

Thanks in advance.

Heller's post-game comment . . . the plan is for Ty Langenberg to start Thursday's game.

Good call, I think Brecht is our only hope.

i did not see the IU/Illinois game. For myself and others who didn't watch: Can you relay what Indiana's pitching strategy was? Ie, did they start a relief pitcher and only using relief pitchers during the game? If so, it worked, barely, but why wouldn't you use one of your best starters, because do you really want to lose your first game and face elimination right off the bat? Also, today's starter could have been available again later in the week.

I am assuming Illinois started their best starter, just like Michigan?

I didn’t watch the entire game but the first 6 innings had 3 different pitchers. Looks like they treated it like a mid week game. It worked, they won and now have Sinnard for Thursday.

Illinois started their best pitcher.

thank you.

it's interesting how most teams use the same strategy and IU used a very much different one.

At the end of this post is the box score from Sat April 8, where Iowa lost to IU 2-0 in 10 innings.

In 6 innings pitched, Sinnard gave up 3 hits, struck out 12 and walked just 1.

Marcus Morgan & Zach Voelker combined for a 3 hitter.

Yeah, Iowa really struggled against him. Hopefully they will be better the 2nd time around.

Iowa adds another Quad 1 win to their resume if they can pull it off.

Might be another pitcher's dual.

Speaking of pitching, this was one of the key moments from today, of course.

Bases loaded, nobody out? No problem.

2 Games today:

(1) Nebraska vs Rutgers, 2:00 pm CT

(2) Michigan vs Illinois, 7:00 pm CT (elimination game)

Good luck today, @Alum-Ni

What a weird way to schedule these games.

I understand the bracket, but the schedule of the bracket is bizarre.

I completely agree, I mentioned earlier that both elimination games should be played today. Start the Rutgers/Nebraska game at 10 am and then play the elimination games in the afternoon/evening.

Yep.

Hell, I came home from the Ankeny game last night thinking I was going to be treated to the last first round game. Never crossed my mind it wouldn’t be played.

Whitlock completely changed the momentum of the game. Had he even given up 1 run who knows what would have happened as Iowa would have fallen behind.

He struck out Michigan's 2, 3 and 4 batters, too.

On the strike out pitches, these were the counts:

1) 3-2
2) 1-2
3) 3-2 (the pitch was outside and would have been ball 4)

Thankfully he didn't walk in any runs on those two 3-2 pitches, which would have been deflating.

I think they need to get games in sooner rather than later where they keep the tournament moving along. having just 2 games today doesn't make much sense.

thankfully there is no rain in the forecast. Imagine if the weather forecast for this week was like last year.

Small rain chance here tomorrow afternoo but nothing that will wash out a game.

Changes implemented to avoid last year’s Michigan/Illinois debacle of a first pitch at about 11 pm and game ending around 2 am.

Only Saturday now has potential for 4 games.

I understand why they did it. That doesn’t mean it is the most sensible option. Just don’t have a first pitch after 9:00. You can adjust if rain, or extreme extra innings occur. There are a few options that seem to make more sense than what they went with.

You can always count on the B1G to do the weirdest thing imaginable.

It’s not a huge deal, but it still doesn’t make a lot of sense. Just my opinion, I’m going to lose sleep over it. The tournament will happen, and in the end, it doesn’t make much of difference how they do it:)

Go Hawks!
