***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

This is a pretty good article chronicling her firsts and records set so far, and there are still a lot of games left. The opening of Dan Patrick this morning also had a lot of great things said about her - link also below.

CC needs to improve her 3-point shot and the team needs to work on layups and figure out how to cut way down on turn overs. Better defense wouldn't hurt either.

One final thing to keep an eye on is the single season assist record of 316. She has 202. So with 14 games left, to break the record in the regular season, she needs to average 8.2 a game. She is currently averaging 8.2 a game, and as we know is trending up. She could actually smash the record if she finishes the season out like she has played the past 5 games.

She currently has 213 assists, leaving her 104 away from beating the record. That's less than 7.5 assists per game the rest of the way.

Of note, she's averaged 11.4 over her last 10 games. Even pulling out last night's performance she's still at 10.4 over the previous 9 games.

If she stays healthy, that record is falling.

My bad. I pulled the stat from an article I read this morning - garbage in garbage out. Unless she gets injured, she is going to obliterate the record.

She's literally playing the entire game. Unlike at Iowa, where Lisa hid her deep in a zone, she's actually having to stay in front of the offensive player. She openly admitted that she was tired. She doesn't have her legs at all. Just wait until after this break.

Just a reminder—KLS was the 4th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA draft. That’s unbelievable. What an indictment of a trash league.

Been saying this, The fact that all these rookies, including Jacy Sheldon, even play meaningful minutes is unusual and few of them are even polished until year, 3, 4, 5… keep in mind Sabrina is now in her fifth year.

In the NBA, they attract the best talent in the world, Leonie Fiebich of the New York liberty who is starting to play quite a few meaningful Minutes got drafted in 2020 and didn’t show up to play until this year. There were three foreigners drafted in the first 10 picks this year that elected to stay home and prepare for the Olympics, they don’t get the best talent overseas Because they don’t pay for it like the NBA does .

100% this. And teams are trying to make her go through a fair amount of pick and rolls which is pretty taxing defensively. Which makes what she's doing even more impressive right now. She's playing real/true defense for honestly the first time in her life and she's getting way better. All the while pushing the pace the entire 40 minutes on the other end because Sides has realized even playing Wheeler 5 minutes a game kills them.

That's about to change. Thanks CC!

I'm sure they asked both of them.

You more than ask Sabrina & Caitlin to be in the 3 point contest. If you have to, you pay the winner (example: $100,000).

Do what you gotta do. Hell, you'd sell TV ads to at least partially pay the $100,000 (or whatever the amount is).

Wanna grow the game? Get Sabrina & Caitlin to partake in the 3 point shooting contest.

Shit; have Caitlin play a game of horse with an NBA player, while you're at it. She shoots a logo 3; see if the NBA player can make it.

Think outside the box, WNBA.

Yep. I’m going conservative with 350. Breaks record by 34 (over 10%). That’s with her averaging 9 apg here on out. Imagine if Aliyah (not dogging on her) had been ready to go right out of the gate. Next year, 400+ is almost expected.

Sue Bird holds the WNBA career assists record at 3,234. That was over a 19-year career. Caitlin could conceivably break it in under 10 years, possibly as few as 8? If she stays healthy, of course.

Vandersloot will most likely break it first. But she won’t hold it for long.

I could not agree more. You change the rules on the number of participants. You pay them $$$$, for which Nike would cut the check before you finished the sentence on the ask. You get them competing, get eyeballs on them, and sell the shit out of the event.

The odds just went from -1000 CC to -2000 & AR from +400 to +600, this thing has really never been very close, the closest it has ever been was when AR put up 27 points & 18 rebounds and I think at that time it dropped to -600 CC to +350 AR… it has steadily gone back up since then.
So I've been wondering for a while what are these odds based on?

I guess it's some measure of each player's stats, maybe combined with team stats and fancy pants metrics 🤷‍♂️?

But ROTY is going to be determined by a vote. Without a poll how do you quantify that?

The same way vegas works odds on any other bet. They try to set the lines to reflect what they believe the odds of either thing happening. When information changes they adjust the odds in the hopes of accomplishing that goal.

The majority of the WNBA wants to get INTO the box.

Can't blame them, I'm a big fan myself.
Yep.

Imagine that for almost 3 decades you’ve been telling people about how great something is. Comparing it to an actual quality product and pointing out all of these financial disparities between your “great thing” and this other really good thing and crying inequality. Of course, nobody really has any context because nobody has ever really seen or even had interest in seeing in your “great thing.” So you might get a few sympathetic nods, some shoulder shrugs, but no real response based on any informed perspective.

Now, all of a sudden, EVERYBODY has seen your thing. For chrissakes, everyone has now seen that Kristy Wallace actually gets paid real money to play the game of basketball. For real. Once you see that, you can’t unsee that sh!t.

I’d probably want to climb back in the box, too, if I were some of them.

I was talking about a different box. :)

First off, I don’t gamble anymore and haven’t for years, so I don’t understand all the nuances, but the basics along with applying a little logic is Vegas sets the odds based on public perception, and who the public thinks will win. And set odds accordingly, for example, if Ohio State was playing Minnesota and they were both good teams, but the public perception is Ohio State is quite a bit better. They will set the odds accordingly so -14-18-20 something like that with the goal of getting even money.

There are sucker bets out there and I’m not going to get into that but in short Vegas has set this line it almost appears to not get any money on Caitlin Clark. A $2000 bet nets you $100 right now. The best it has ever been is 600 gets you 100.

Whereas $100 bet on AR gets you 600… Vegas would not have odds like that on CC if they thought there was any chance she was going to lose🤷‍♂️

Okay, makes total sense of course.

Guess I was, despite myself saying "odds," thinking ESPN was telling us a probability like they might do during the course of a game of one team winning, for example.

Maybe it just seems, to me at least, like too much attention is being paid to this when it's gonna be determined by the caprice of the voters.

I tried finding odds for books like Vegas Insider but didn't see them. I assume they are being offered by some book out there, but I guess who knows.

What? Nobody cares about three point shooting contests. I don't think I've ever watched one outside of Wii Sports Resort in my life.

I agree, but this is the important part, Vegas is putting their money where their mouth is and they stand to lose shit tons of money if they have wildly inaccurate odds. So they are still convinced despite all the national rhetoric that Caitlin Clark is far and away the leader in the clubhouse.

If somebody else disagrees with this jump in and correct me here but -2000 is crazy, they have all but guaranteed she’s going to win this thing

Kind of like the WNBA….how many of us had ever watched a game or could name more than one or two WNBA players before Caitlin joined the league? I would expect a huge TV audience for a 3-point shooting contest that included Caitlin. I’d go out on a limb and say if she was in the 3-point contest, it would have higher TV ratings than any previous WNBA all-star game.

@Franisdaman what’s the Twitter fallout on the new MVP odds Fran. A couple guys there on Twitter, who I’ve interacted with that aren’t dummies (@WCStakes, @maestroxv_ & @KDM_graphics ) and yet they are obsessed with downplaying her success and bitching about her turnovers, one of them WC stakes, I/E: woke conservative sports immediately posted CCs worst game versus the liberty right next to ARs worst game against the liberty, after the Sky lost with no context. That it was CCs the third or fourth game of the season and AR’s just recently, no context to how much better CCs best game trip-dub was or the aversge, still better🤷‍♂️

These are relatively intelligent people doing this..desperation!!

What I would like to know - but am way too lazy to research myself - what picks were available below both KLS at 4 and Smith at 2?

Trash league or trash picks? Or both? Gotta be better lower first round picks than these two? Or maybe not 🤷‍♂️?

Why is she bringing the ball upcourt??
Because she has the lowest basketball IQ on the team? There were multiple times last where Smith would get the defensive rebound and look to take it on her own while CC was 3-5 feet from her clapping for the ball. Most of the times she gives it to her but that 2-3 second wait kills the fast break. Can’t stand it.

Why is she bringing the ball upcourt??
On the double dribble, it was the first play of the game. Smith stole the ball. She was alone on a fast break, no one around her, she took a couple dribbles, picked the ball up while running and then started dribbling again. Everyone was like WTH?!? Her other travel calls were when she was trying to drive, or maneuver.

Go to the 20 second mark at the very beginning to see:
