***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

A little bit of both trash league & trash talent available, imo. But also some bad scouting/talent evaluation on the Fever's part.

For example, in 2019 the Fever could have selected Arike Ogunbowale or Napheesa Collier. Instead they picked Katie Lou Samuelson.

in 2022, the Fever picked NaLyssa Smith at #2 and Lexie Hull at #6. I don't know who they could have/should have selected, however.

Here are those 2 drafts:

Wow. Passing on both of those players for Samuelson. What in the actual F.

I mean, how many of us didn't know that this is exactly what would happen.

What follows is how CC compares to the Olympian guards.

As you can see, CC leads in 6 of the 9 categories.

In 2022 you might as well have not drafted anyone after the 3rd pick. What a garbage draft.

In 2022, the Fever had 4 picks in a BAD Draft. 2, 4,6 &10. Sabally at #5 might be the only player better than Hull at 6. And Indianas 4&10 were cut.

CC better be player of the month if she isn't the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. What a robbery.

She'd be a much better defender, rebounder, and we'd cut a few turnovers a game. Plus if there's an air of unrest on this team in the locker room, My money says its Mitchell whose at the middle of that. There isn't another player on the team who has the cache to say shit, that often during games appears to have a beef with Clark.

I think they’re okay.

I haven’t broke down and studied the drafts yet I may. I am pretty intrigued by this league honestly. I’m still not watching many teams outside of the fever. Sometimes I’ll watch the game before or the game after or the aces or liberty, but the point is this.

From what I can tell, the number one thing is most of these women no matter how talented they end up being are really slow acclimating their first 2, 3 years. And as far as that goes, and this is kind of an obvious statement, they are all light years better players by year 4/5. I mean honestly & again I haven’t broken it down by draft but of the three rounds very few even make opening day rosters. Honestly CC and even ARs trajectory has been pretty unusual and even Jackson, Cardoso, brink’s & even Jacy Sheldon are having some success so this really was a revolutionary draft.

FWIW, Ive been critical of the Fever front office but I just realized Linn Dunn’s only been there since February 14 of 2022.

Caitlin’s non participation in the 3 point contest was the subject of a lengthy discussion on the dan Patrick show this morning. Amazing the space she continues to occupy in the national talk show scene.
I think it simply comes down to money. If you want AAA talent to show up to an event you need to pay AAA fees. $2k isn't going to cut it.

I said earlier, the 2022 draft was just about straight garbage, especially compared to the 2024 draft. The #2 overall pick in Smith is going to be struggling to keep a starting spot on a team that may only squeak into the playoffs with a first round exit by the end of her 3rd season. The 2021 draft may be even worse than the 2022 draft.

Here's what Indiana has pulled in on draft night for 1st round players over the last several years, which shows as the big problem with their roster.
2024 1st overall - Caitlin Clark (starter and all star)
2023 1st overall - Aliyah Boston (starter and all star)
2023 7th overall - Grace Berger (never plays)
2022 2nd overall - NaLyssa Smith (starter, for now)
2022 4th overall - Emily Engstler (waived after 35 games)
2022 6th overall - Lexie Hull (spot starter but mostly a backup)
2022 10th overall - Queen Egbo (traded after 49 games)
2021 4th overall - Kysre Gondrezick (waived after 19 games)
2020 3rd overall - Lauren Cox (waived after 25 games)
2019 3rd overall - Teaira McCowan (traded after 88 games)
2018 2nd overall - Kelsey Mitchell (starter and all star)
2018 8th overall - Victoria Vivians (waived after 144 games)

There were eight top 4 draft picks in the past seven years. Only four of those are still there as starters. Only half of the twelve picks are even on still on the roster. Crazy how little long-term value they've managed to get out of all of that draft capital.

They were saying she and Ionescu should just give their reasons, but since they have not, it has become a bigger deal than it would have been. They speculated that she just wants the time off, that she was afraid to lose and give haters ammo, or that she just doesn't want to overshadow everyone else and let others have their moment in the sun. I think it could be that the all-star/team usa game is going to be played a lot more fiercely than previous such games, and that people want to be as well-rested for the game as possible.

That’s also why they aren’t getting the top talent from over seas. All BS aside, and I’m not being a dick, just honest, this is a Mickey Mouse league, with Monopoly money.

As I said before 3 very talented women from overseas were drafted in the top 10 picks this year and didn’t “come over” so they could stay home & prepare for the Olympics.

What if they got 200k contracts would they have come then? And if 200K seems low, I took the time to do a quick Google search and the “overseas money“ is at the very least obscure and secretively reported, and in most likelihood not nearly as high as we’ve been led to believe except for Russia or China and even then it’s a very small handful of elite players.

Now, with that said, that means there’s a big opportunity if this league can increase their salaries significantly. No way in hell would top 10 European draft picks stay home to prepare for the Olympics if they got drafted into the NBA!

Hell Nylssa Smith is an overwhelming success story comparatively. Many of those women aren’t even in the league anymore.
