****Official Cubs 2015 Thread****

I think Schwarber will start. He's been really bad coming off the bench, so if you're not going to start him, there's not much point to him at all. I like your lineup, though. I'd go this way:

Fowler CF
Schwarber LF
Rizzo 1B
Bryant 3B
Jackson RF
Castro 2B
Montero C
Arrieta P
Russell SS

I like that lineup although I would switch Schwarber and Jackson in the field since left field is very big in PNC. Either way, I'm not getting any work done today.

I like that lineup, but it sounds like it's almost guaranteed that La Stella will start at 3B tonight. I'm thinking Schwarber in RF and Bryant in RF. LF in Pitt is actually more challenging than RF due to the short porch in right.

Uugh, Cubs fans are completely intolerable, and I am even a Cubs fan! Just shut up already.

Pretty confused by this post. It's the day of one of the biggest games the Cubs have had in 7 years. What do you expect? And if you can't stand the chatter, I would recommend staying out of a thread titled "Official Cubs 2015 Thread".

Nah, not here, just making more the comment from Facebook and Twitter. I get some excitement but act a little bit like you have been here before.

The bigger the buildup, the bigger the letdown, once again.

I'm a fan. I don't need to act like I've been there before. Also, I think people are acting appropriately for the way this season has gone and the drought they have been on for quite some time. If they lose I will be pissed, but I will eventually get over it. There's always next year. This core group will be together for a long time.

Yeah, I didn't factor in the size of the field. Maybe that does leave Schwarber on the bench. LF is already a stretch for him and unless he's been practicing some in RF, it's not completely trivial to switch sides. The ball comes off the bat differently in RF and the throws are much different. If LaStella is starting, then I think pocha pretty much has it right. I like Jackson in the lineup and if LaStella is at 3rd, Bryant probably does go to RF. I think Castro is a given because of the way he's hit this last month and the fact that he's had some success off Cole.

As for the rest, I don't care about the talk and excitement. It's a lot of fun to have some reason to be excited in October.....and, really, this one-game WC model really sets this up as a de facto Game 7, and those are always fun. I'll be grumpy tomorrow if the Cubs lose, but I don't think it'll take me long to get past it. They're here a year early and the Cubs are a team built for the long haul and run by people with a plan. I can say both of those things, I think, for the first time in my lifetime.

And no....this is not my most productive day at work, either. At least I got to the gym this morning, so I accomplished something.

I remember seeing Schwarber play some RF in a few of the games towards the end of the season. Perhaps Maddon was preparing for this game and we will see him in RF and Bryant in LF?

It's possible. I'd love to have his bat in there to start the game. He hasn't been good coming in later in games. I think I saw that he's 0-13 as a non-starter and 0-9 as a pinch hitter....and let's be real, the only reason to play Schwarber is his bat.

And here it is:

Fowler CF
Schwarber RF
Bryant LF
Rizzo 1B
La Stella 3B
Castro 2B
Montero C
Russell SS
Arrieta P

I like it. Have Baez, Soler, Coghlan, and Jackson off of the bench.

I will say this is the biggest game since game 7 in 2003. A one game playoff is a game 7, getting swept out of the playoffs back to back years limits the "big game"

It'll be really interesting to see how Maddon manages this game. Hopefully Arrieta has his best stuff and the Cubs get a couple runs early, but I assume Arrieta will get some leash, but if/when he goes to the pen, I'd imagine several of those guys will be on very short leashes. I wouldn't expect Cole to give up much, either, so the margin for error could be small.....and yet sometimes the pressure of these big games just pushes things in totally unanticipated directions. I might put the over/under on total runs in this game at 5.5.

Maddon clearly had this scenario in mind the last few games of the season and wanted Schwarber to get some time in RF. The Bryant to LF thing for tonight surprised me.

Hard to say. Any closer to first and he's probably out at 2nd if that ball drops. And it looked like it was going to drop.

Respectfully disagree. It's a pop fly just beyond the infield in the MLB. >95% chance it gets caught.

And it looked to me like he was beyond halfway to 2nd base. I think on that play you go 1/3 of the way to 1/2 tops. The play back to first wasn't even remotely close. If he's going that far there's no point, just run all the way to 2nd there's no chance of getting back.

I agree if he was that far he might as well just go to 2nd, but I disagree that it was a greater than 95% play. That spot on the field is greater than 95%, but the way the LF wasn't close and the SS had to over the shoulder catch that, that specific play is made less than 50% of the time.

Ha ha. You got numbers to back that up? :) Not quite a routine play but c'mob, still a high pop.

Anyway, but got an Alex Gonzalez flashback. Then he comes back and turns the double play anyway. So the Bartman jinx is officially lifed.

Bush league crap there. Pirates just upset Arrieta is owning them so far.

No, no numbers. Just to be clear I'm not talking the number of times a high pop like that is caught. I'm talking about the number of times a left fielder leaves his SS out to dry and the SS has to make a catch like that. That catch was tough.

I wonder why Rodriguez was so pissed and out of control.
Because the Pirates won 98 games and were down 4-0 to a guy who is lights out. Because he got yanked from the game without getting an AB. Because he is a spaz.
