****Official Cubs 2015 Thread****

Yeah there were a few bad calls throughout that game, but it went both ways and it wasn't anything egregious like tonight. Some of these strike calls tonight weren't even close. And the bad calls were much more frequent.

Stop. Just stop. You got beat. Stop making excuses...

Lester was fine tonight. Strop poured gas on the fire Pham started. Lackey was a tad bit better, and Rosenthal wobbled but got the job done. A typical 2015 Cards win.

Looked like playoff baseball to me...Cubs just need to steal one of the two though so the series is still very much in doubt.

Looooooooong way to go...

Nope. Once again, a bad zone. I'm guessing you didn't watch the game tonight.
Slightly tight zone? Lol just do yourself a favor and stop posting. No Cards or Cubs fan would agree with you on that statement if they actually watched the game.

There you go. Argue with the robots too. Typical cubs fan... first time in how many years watching baseball after May.

Perhaps the strike zone box on tbs was off but it was very different than what that shows. Even the announcers were critical of his strike zone.

The TV strikezones are almost always off. That's why consistency matters. He was consistent, as I said.

BTW, I'm a Redsox fan, and my team has been screwed over more than any other this year with the new expanded zone. I am all for electronic strikes/balls replacing umps. But this game wasn't that bad.

Ok. Didn't watch the game as I expected. And to the other guy, I watched all 162 in the regular season, try another comeback. Once again, this isn't whining about losing the game, it's about calling for an electronic strike zone.

I actually did watch the game, and seeing as how the pitch/fx data (you know, the data you want to use to call all balls/strikes) matches what my eyes told me about the strike zone, either you didn't watch it or you don't have a clue. He was consistent for both teams.

OK, Cubs fans, there's your Xmas present, courtesy of Jaime Garcia.

As Cards fans will tell you, Jaime Garcia is the biggest pussy on this team. Make an error behind him and he folds like a cheap tent.

Huge win tonight! Now Arrieta. Also, much much better blue behind the plate tonight. Although I'm sure dbq would prefer the ump last night with the "slightly tight zone" as he put it.

Big win. Now just need Arrieta to keep doing what he's been doing.

If MLB wants TV ratings have the Cubs play at seven. I hate this four or five o'clock crap.

Trevor Cahill has been awesome for the Cubs.

I have to insert a quick rant against unearned runs. Sure, the play on Jackson was goofy, but, he is still a speedy runner. The play on Hendricks' bunt by Garcia was an error. My quibble is to call everything beyond that unearned. Each play affects the next play, but each play is an independent action in baseball. Fowler got on, and Soler hit a HR to right center. Why assume no other outcomes from those two AB's other than a score dependent upon Garcia's error?

I guess I'm not following your argument. Garcia's error was an out they should have had, therefore once they got to two outs in the inning they really should've been out of the inning. And while typing this is think I figured out your point. You're basically saying Fowler could have got on base next inning and Soler could have hit a home run just the same as they did in the inning with the error. But those runs would be earned even though the same events occurred. I that doesn't really make sense why they'd be unearned then. They should at least be earned since Garcia was the one committing the error. I've always thought that was weird.

I remember some calling Coghlan's slide into Kang dirty. You should see Utley take out Tejada.

Excuses...fact, you be the judge.

"It was a mistake,” he said. “Mental mistake. That should never happen.”

The lefty acknowledged later that he felt like he was pitching through a viral fog. He was able to make pitches, just not decisions."

If you know my posting past about the Cards, I have been outspoken on Garcia's maddening mental lapses through the years. He seems susceptible to brain spasms way too many times...and they always look exactly like what we saw today.

But, but, but...St. Louis "won" the TV ratings battle for game 1 of the NLDS vs. Chicago.

11 World Series titles and it's this kind of crap that makes St. Louis look like...well...Des Moines.

Oh for gawd's sake. Why are there so many idiot Cub fans in the world. You do a disservice to the good Cubs fans out there.

The day the Cubs beating St. Louis in the playoffs bothers me is the day I stop being a fan of baseball. I despise Madison Bumgarner and the Red Sox a helluva lot more than I'll ever hate on the Cubs.

Any self-respecting Cards fan...knowing St. Louis is playing these 2015 playoffs without their #1 and #2 starters - if they felt supremely confident that they could make a deep run this year they would have to be NVTS nuts.

Possible, sure. Probable, not.

Take Arrieta out of your rotation since May 1 and you guys finish 20 behind Pittsburgh. Take Lester out for the playoffs too, and you guys get broomed.

So, if you win the series, congrats on that. You really slayed the dragon right there...

The Cubs damn well should have been favored all along in this series given those facts above, but it all spun on whether they could take a game in St. Louis. Which they did, unfortunately for Cards fans in a very predictable, Jaime Garcia nutless fashion.

It's not my fault you can't figure that all out. Try objectivity some time. Your life will certainly improve as a result.

My apologies to the good Cubs fans who have posted in this thread throughout this year...I come back to this thread for a good discussion about baseball and for the most part it has been. But don't be surprised that if Lucy pulls the football out from the Charlie Browns in the thread that posters come back and shovel crap right back at you Peanuts that you so richly deserve.

You claim to want a good discussion of baseball, but then proceed to tell Cubs fans that they got a "present" via Garcia. The Cubs didn't do anything to warrant the win?

I get it that Cubs fans can be obnoxious, but the arrogance and self-righteousness of Cardinals fans can't be ignored, either.

If you had lived through Garcia's mental weakness episodes...

My bone to pick is really with Matheny when it gets right down to it. I'd ask myself why Wacha wasn't starting that game, or Lynn...especially if Garcia was ill. The Gift is Matheny deciding to give Garcia a shot despite him barfing up his nuts before and during the game.

Trust me...I'm more pissed off at Matheny than anything else.

No arrogance or self-righteousness here...there's 3 guys on StL's usual roster I have no real faith in, and that's Garcia because of health and continuous mental lapses, Matt Adams because he's also injury-prone and is at best a DH, and Randy Choate because he's getting paid a lot of money to be a good loogy, and he's not a good loogy. He stunk on a stick yet again this year. At least Matheny had the common sense to leave those two off the playoff roster.

I know Garcia is usually money at home...but if there's a starter for StL that is most susceptible to a meltdown to cause them losing a game 2 at home, it's Jaime. I'm just sick of seeing it over and over through the years. It was the only way StL endangers this series from going at worst to a game 5 (because Lester nor Arrieta should pitch game 4 unless on 3 days rest)...and like clockwork, it happened.

bag dropper,

A lot of the selection of starters is matchups. The Cubs have hit Wacha very well the last couple of times out, and have shelled Lynn. Lackey owns the Cubs and we saw that in Game 1. It is for this reason that I think Pittsburgh should have thrown Liriano as opposed to Cole.

The outcome of Game 3 will determine who Matheny throws in Game 4, but I sure hope that it's Lance Lynn.

Wow. An awful lot of excuses in this thread.

Starts times set game for games 3 and 4:

Game 3 first pitch is at 5:00

Game 4 first pitch is at 3:30

I'm really surprised that they decided to put Dodgers-Mets in prime time twice over Cubs-Cards. When they're in LA, there are obvious time zone logistics to deal with....but in NY?

As a Cubs fan, that wind howling out today scares me at Wrigley. When you've presumably got the pitching edge, cheap homers are a big x factor.

One man's excuses is another man's reasons.

The point is Chicago deserved to win that game. No excuses. They won fair and square. And if Chicago wins the series, I will come to this thread and say so and congradulate them.

It IS reasonable to question decisions made by Matheny that led to St. Louis losing. I understand the matchup aspect of it with Wacha and Lynn...but if you have a guy vomiting an hour before the game, maybe you really want to consider trying someone else there.

Myself, I would have put Lyons out there now that I've had a couple days to digest it all.

This is obviously 20/20 hindsight now, but I thought the Cubs should have gambled in typical Madden-style and used Lester in the WC game. That way Arrieta could have pitched twice in the NLDS, which is a much more important series to me than a random one and done game. I wouldn't have cared if they lost the silly WC game, but getting to the NLCS would be huge. They still can, but you are depending on less than your best starters.
