*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

Did you see how they bitch slapped the NL's best team, by a mile, this weekend? Outscored them 16-5.

I know you’re trolling but...I really couldn’t care less about the Yankees—if by some miracle the Cubs actually get to the WS they’ll be playing the Astros.

Not so sure. When he arrived in Boston, they were already a good franchise and Duquette had already assembled a very good roster. Epstein left the Red Sox in disarray.

In Chicago, he did get that elusive WS title, but the Cubs certainly seem to be disarray now, only three years later.

To me, that's not a HOF resume'.

You’re nuts. Theo won Boston’s first in 90 years and the cubs first in over 100. He’s not the greatest of all time but he’s a sure HofFer.

It's kind of a toss up between whose fans are more delusional and dismissive. Yankee fans, or Cardinals fans.

He won Boston's first with Duquette's players. And left Boston in a hole after he left. Outside of the 2013 unexpected title... they were horrid in 2012/14/15. He was basically encouraged to leave.

In Chicago, one title and a whole bunch of meh! Everyone on this thread thought they would have a decade of success with the core players. Now they have so many holes that you can't count them. And no farm system.

But hey... thanks for Gleyber!

Epstein acquired most of the 2004 team after taking over in 2001.

A Cubs fan talking about other fan bases being delusional.....that is rich ! Lol

Yep, arguably the two most successful MLB franchises... ever!

Wanna guess which two organizations have the most players in the HOF?

Doesn't appear the dynasty predicted after the 2016 WS will materialize. Bad signings and outrageous contracts will be the footnote to Theo's legacy.

In the context of fans of other teams coming here to this thread and commenting about a team, and the GM that built it, that has won 90+ games a year since 2015, it's allowable. I don't go to other team threads and bother people with silly talk.

The NY Yankees had a mini-dynasty when they won
four World Series Championships in 5 years. It was
in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000.

Then when the Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World
Series Championship the hype began. Look for a
mini-dynasty with Rizzo, Bryant, Lester, Baez as the
core four.

Bottom Line: If the Cubs do not reach the post season
this year, then the party is over. Joe "Magic" Maddon
will not have his contract renewed and Theo might feel
some heat for his seat.

Funny, when the Yankees weren't all that great the past few years, we didn't have Yankee trolls filling up this thread. We've always had the Cardinal fans, some more obnoxious than others, but all good in a rivalry.

While Theo has plenty of flaws, it's also completely shocking that said Yankee fans would come into this thread and hammer and hammer and hammer on the GM that built the Red Sox into a team that won 3 rings in a time span where the Yanks have won 1 title.

I say that legitimately not caring whether Theo continues to be the Cubs' GM. While I agree that Theo will be in the HOF, the biggest difference in the Cubs is ownership. They want to hire good baseball people and let them work. Theo's build-up plan worked perfectly through 2016, but there was a lot of good fortune in there.....so many kids hitting early, lightning in a bottle in Arrieta, Dexter Fowler falling into their lap in 2016, etc.

St. Louis Cardinals fans don't seem to be delusional. There has been a great history of success, which naturally brings high expectations.

That said, St. Louis Cardinal fans (as a group) are a highly unique breed. I have never seen a group of fans that is so proud of their fandom. Sports fandom requires no skill or personal virtue, but only time. Cardinal fans seem to think that they are extremely important (even though their recent free agent pursuits indicate that top dollar free agents don't care about the "Best Fans in Baseball"). I was laughing as adult men on this site (you may have been one of them) were arguing about how no stadium would receive a former player the way Busch received Pujols -- as if giving standing ovations in a baseball stadium is a personal accomplishment.

The reality is, none of us is important to the game, but for the money we spend on it.

If you can point out a sports fanbase that has a Twitter handle worth 34K followers devoted to mocking said fanbase (and is followed by several national guys/ tweeted at by Cleveland Indians), I will recant what I wrote about the "Best Fans in Baseball" and "Baseball Heaven."

By the way, the Cards are in a nice stretch. The NL Central is really bad, but given the randomness of baseball, I would not be surprised to see an October run by STL. Might be a chance for the Best Fans in Baseball to showcase the Cardinal Way and the unwritten rules of fandom on the big stage once again.

This is a big shift for you. Almost an acknowledgement that Theo and company have a mess on their hands and might not be the guys to fix it.

With all of the pre-arb extensions signed, opportunities to improve in free agency are fewer and far between. This makes drafting/development all the more important, and we have seen that the incompetent Jason McLeod can't do a thing unless he gets top picks via tanking.

I think that says a lot more about those 34,000 (I wonder what percentage are Cubs fans?) than it does about Cardinal fans. But you are certainly welcome to your take on it.

What a clown.

Best fans in baseball is a moniker given to the Cardinal Fans by the MLB players themselves, not the fans. The Cards didn't want to part with many of their younger players to " buy " a season. The Cards entire starting rotation would be home grown if not for injuries to Reyes and Martinez. Most of the relievers as well.

The Cards are in a nice stretch, heading for their 12th straight winning season and 19 of the last 20. The way the playoff are set up now it does favor a team who will " buy " two free agent starters and a closer rather than a solid rotation of 5 quality starters.
Baseball isn't " random " it's a long haul and the best teams continually compete. They may not always win but they're always in the hunt. The Cubs win in '16 wasn't random. They bought Chapman and overcame Maddon's bullpen decisions and got a little lucky. Or is it random>

The excellent 2004-2006 Cardinal teams were led by the following players: Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Chris Carpenter.

Since only Pujols was homegrown, does their 2004 pennant or 2006 World Series feel diminished to you?

I assume the team you refer to above is the Astros? They are the best/smartest/most well-run team in MLB, run by a former Cardinal front office exec. Your Director of Scouting was awareness of how smart this group was back in 2013-2014.

No idea. I didn't even know about that one. Is there another fan base that Cubs fans hate as much as STL? If so, then maybe there is another twitter handle with that many followers.

I know zero about twitter other than everyone on HROT likes to make fun of the president who uses it often. If Trump is a shining example of a Twitter user then I guess I'll just pass on giving them any relevance to the discussion.

Carpenter was a sub .500 pitcher for Toronto and released after a injury plagued 4 - 5 season. He became great after the Cards developed him. Not a high $ FA. Rolen traded for 3 home grown Cardinals. Edmund traded for Adam Kennedy another home grown Cardinal.

Fascination? Who's fascinated? Why are there so many Cardinals fans in the Cubs thread? You guys are like ISU fans on the football board. Go make your own thread.
You got the ISU analogy backwards. There used to be Cardinal threads in past seasons but it was so inundated with Cub trolls that I and others stopped posting in it. I peruse this thread just to see some talk about baseball and typically just linger without posting; because I don't like to bicker. Once in awhile though I get sucked in with attacks on the Cardinals or their fans. I'll be on my way.

Welp, with only 32 games to play, the next half dozen games will likely determine if the Cubs even make the post season. With the Mets and Phillies closing fast, the Cubs NEED to win at least four of the next six. Anything short of that...

There isn't a Cubs fan on Earth that thought they'd be in this position when the season started.

And with all that talent:rolleyes:

Ahhh, I get it, they can be considered home grown when it's the Cardinals doing it. What always amazed me about the Cardinals is how they could go down on the farm and get a guy, bring him up and he goes on a tear, may do little in the rest of their career but throw out a 6-8 stretch of .300+ and driving in clutch runs.

I'm just glad that I belong to a fan base that others are so envious of that they starve for my attention.

Happ is getting another start at 1B tonight. Rizzo’s back is still achy.
Not good.

Phil Regan is the Mets interim pitching coach? He’s gotta be 80 something years old. Good for him I guess?

For those of you who are watching along with me tonight, can anyone explain the difference in stats by Castellanos they just showed? His exit velocity is up 2 mph. Stats like balls in play and hard hit balls are both up 10 percent. I think that is what they showed. I guess the what isn't as important, as the why? We aren't simply talking about Wrigley being a friendlier park, they were showing stats that are related to just laying the bat on the ball, not anything related to shorter fences than Comerica, or summer breezes blowing out of Wrigley.

This is how bad things are for the Brewers.

Yadi hits a 2 run foul pole homer to take a 3-1 lead. It immediately starts raining. Domed stadium, no problem, right?

The roof was open. Rain delay.

NICE TRY.

Yu for the 9th? Might as well, I trust him more than the pen at this point. That's saying a lot.

He's playing on a winner now. The Cole Hammels effect.

I like how every Cubs hitter is embracing going oppo. Feel like they are ready for a big breakout offensively if they keep that mindset.
