*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

If it’s the same one I saw, that picture was taken on Sept 20. Either way, he deserves a ton of credit for playing hurt and trying to help his team make the playoffs. At this point, shut him down.

Yes. @mstp1992 is not permitted to make any "doesn't care" or "doesn't try hard" references to Rizzo for at least 2 years after what he's done on that ankle.

imo almora and happ are both in AAA, just guessing obviously

We'll see what he shows in spring training. I really liked the drop in his strikeout rate this year - it was down more than 10 percentage points from last year and he struck out at a lower rate in Chicago than he did at Iowa this year.

I'd like to see if he can get back to driving the ball more next year without increasing the K rate substantially. His BABIP was way down over last year and his walk rate was down. Some of that could be sample size, but part of me also wonders how much of the drops are him focusing so much on contact that he's being more aggressive on so-so pitches. BABIP being down could also be due to getting more bat on ball with 2 strikes....taking ABs that would have been a K last year and turning it into something less than hard contact.

I agree.

Almora needs to spend the off season trying to figure out how to get his launch angle over 0.

Theo Epstein makes himself available to the SCORE
in Chicago twice this week. Once with Lawrence Holmes
and once with McNeil and Perkins. His mantra is "We
all need to be accountable ."

Translation: "Joe Maddon will not have his 5 year contract
renewed."

Yu Darvish and Kyle Hendricks will not make their scheduled starts this weekend. While I understand it looking at the bigger picture, I am disappointed that they are choosing not to compete with an opportunity to play spoiler.

False. Lie. Fake news. I'll believe that when I see it.

Joe's place has charts and graphs that prove teams out of contention play just as hard the last games as they did when they were in contention. Why just take Pittsburgh's and Cincinnati's winning %s before and after the trade deadline. Wait. What? Never mind....

Uh huh

And it why the Cubs could only manage 2 runs against them yesterday, and only 2 so far today. Because.........Josh Bell.........is.........somehow......preventing.........the ..........Cubs.
......from............scoring...........

the cubs took 2/3 from Oakland in early August. Is there anyway the cubs would win a series vs Oakland today? No chance

No Happ? He is a toss up in my mind. A lot of pop and potential, but he should report to Arizona a week after the season ends and start working out with anyone he can find down there.
Edit: Never mind. You spoke to this later on in the thread.
If you threw in Edwin Jackson as the starting pitcher tonight you'd basically have a 2013 roster.

2 blown saves and started the JV team in game 2. Don't equate 1 or 2 games in baseball to represent any " season long " significance. If that's the case the Cardinals own Verlander, Kershaw and Bumgarner. Your baseball smarts wouldn't fill a thimble Joe...

YeahBut.........if ONLY the Brewers had to face the Astros after they acquired Greinke.....Amirite?

Cincy didn't start their best player, Suarez, left fielder or catcher today. Because they're out of the race. Just like Pittsburgh. Just like Miami. We'll see who last place Colorado starts this weekend against the Brewers.
I'm still not believing the Cubs won't try to play spoiler this weekend.

If only there was a thread about the Cardinals for someone to spend his time in.
Sorry, the mods merged the threads. ;) Cards are off tonight, I'm watching the Cubs, therefore I can post here with impunity. Wish the mods would do that for all the impeachment threads, clean up the board a little, make room for a playoff thread...

You have never, nor will you ever see any complaints from me about Rizzo. He is one whom I wish all the Cubs players would emulate.

Not copulate him, as Andre Dawson might’ve inadvertently said.

You should focus more on Milwaukee coming in hot than focusing on what the Cubs do against Pittsburgh.
Why would Cards fans worry? They'll broom the Cubbies.

The Cubs have been "tanking" for the last few weeks. Cubs won't win another game this season. Pathetic bunch of losers.

Any objective fan saw this coming last summer. You got 2/3 guys that care and the rest of the roster collecting a paycheck.

And now a GM saying things to try and save his job.

They're not going to, although I don't think it would matter if they did. This team is out playing golf now.

I don't believe that. I just think they guys "collecting a paycheck" are actually just old and can't compete for a full season anymore. Mainly in the pitching staff.

On this date in 1989 the Cubs beat the Expos to win the NL East. Mitch Williams came in to lock things down.

Meanwhile.....the White Sox - a team that's been out of contention for several weeks, I believe - is handing Cleveland it's own ass 2 nights in a row and possibly knocking them out of a WC spot.

Yep, them teams out of contention just ain't showin' up

EDIT: Ouch - 29 games out??!!! Yep, they've been out of it for most of September, it looks like

Cubs are doing this for the good ... of America! :)

Rizzo and Bryant are not starting tonight against
the Cardinals. Both have complained about a
bruised ego.

Hopefully the Cubs can do enough to knock St Louis in to a tie with Milwaukee and force them both to waste pitchers on a game for the division so they can then proceed to get raped by LA and Atlanta.
