Rizzo!

That was a great story on David Bote's background. I did not know all that. He had to have had some talent coming out if HS, enough to play some level of ball. I mean, the guy is a major league ball player.

I'm reasonably confidant in saying that I bet Wade Davis and Aroldis Chapman are happy that they aren't being managed by Joe Maddon.

For those that tout some stats, guys like Cishek will be worn out by the AS break. Edwards is a head case. Kimbrel might regret signing to play for JM.

But the Cubs have a AS catcher.:p

The same Wade Davis who pitched in 10 less games with the Cubs than he did the following year in Colorado? Or the two years in Kansas City where he threw more? That guy?

How is the pen getting the blame for last night's loss when it was Yu that threw up some BP balls to the rocket launchers for the Rockies? I was watching the game and doing other things around the house and when I heard the "crack" of the bat on those two two-run homers those balls sounded like they were crushed. Yu got teed off on those two ABs. The pen gives up one additional run and they are to blame? Where was the offense? Only working one inning isn't going to get it done.

Darkish gave up 4 runs in 6 innings. When Lester had the same line a couple days earlier he was praised for his performance.

Your overall point is valid, but the primary difference there was that Lester got lit up in the first and then battled back and shut them down for the rest of his time in the game.

I don't really have a lot of angst about last night. Darvish wasn't awful, but had one awful inning. The offense wasn't terrible, but didn't do enough. The bullpen gave up a couple runs.

Sometimes you just have to remember that the other team gets paid to play baseball too.

It’s the same line. Lester put the cubs in a huge hole. Darvish gave up the lead. Darvish also gave up 4 runs in Denver. Perception is the key element.

It's the timing of the runs given up. Lester gave them up in the first but then battled to stay in the game and shut them down. If he would have folded it had the potential to devastate the bullpen. In the end he gave his team a chance to stay in the game and win. Darvish was given a 4 run lead just the half inning prior and promptly went out and started throwing BP, hanging curve balls, etc. Stat line ends up the same but the feelings and momentum surrounding both performances are quite different. I also have noticed that Darvish can't get past 6 innings. The other pitchers on the staff have demonstrated they can pitch into the 7th and beyond but Darvish hits the wall and gets lit up in the 6th. Just screams lack of mental toughness and being able to get those last couple outs before turning it over to the pen.

Yeah, how bad must Maddon be at managing a bullpen that Davis would rather pitch in Colorado?

Colorado Rockies= pitching nightmare, LOL!

Agree. There was stuff to like and stuff to dislike in both starts. The one big plus about Darvish is that he had pretty good command again and didn't walk anybody. Last night was just a game where the team as a whole didn't do enough to win, there wasn't any one major failing.

Let's also not pretend that the well isn't already poisoned for Darvish in the first place, while Lester has already built up 7 lifetimes of goodwill with Cub fans, so it's easier for fans to point out the positive or just cut him some slack.

The reality is that while Lester has been more effective this year, they're not much different in terms of going deep. Lester has 12 starts and has gone 7 innings twice and has failed to finish 5 innings three times (2/4.1/4). Darvish has 14 starts, has finished 7 innings once and failed to finish 5 innings four times (2.2/4/4/4). Neither guy has gotten an out beyond the 7th.

I'm actually pretty encouraged by Darvish lately. His command has really improved and as much as we all hate his contract, it is important to remember that he's working back from injury and basically didn't pitch at all last season. Most guys coming back like that take some time to regain full command and get back close to where they were before.

It was totally about Maddon and not about contract length/money at all.

I think I had read that also. That he wanted to pitch for a pitcher's manager. Chapman had been quoted saying something similar.

Apparently Maddon's tendencies aren't a big secret.

Can you support that claim with something other than your opinion? Facts seem to lean the other way.
