*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

I was listening to the Score this afternoon and the language on Zobrist has changed. They played some audio of Jed and he said, "When Ben returns". The if is gone. I don't think it will be anytime soon, though. There was some chatter that he's planning on coming back in September. If he said he wanted to come back tomorrow, I think he'd need a month to get ready. And, who goes from the roster?
IC gossip: Julianna was in town a few weeks ago for a going away party for her parents. Her dad has retired and they are leaving IC apparently. Julianna was wearing her wedding ring. I don't have much experience with divorce, but, if you file for divorce, don't you take the ring off?

Just noticed Brainiac Maddon batting the pitcher 8th again.

Trump isn't the only stable genius.

Fantastic job by Darvish last night. Based upon his comments following the game, the 2017 World Series has haunted him, which many of us suspected.

Here's to hoping that he "slayed a dragon" of sorts last night, and will be the pitcher he is capable of being.
I like that he was popping it in there at 95 in the 7th inning.

I’m not saying it’s easy, but with Cubs have got to rely on process and go the other way against Ryu. Far too many ABs where the batters try to yank a ball on the outside corner into LF. Bryant has a good attempt there. Not a line drive, but the right approach.

I have no confidence in Collins to get an out in this situation. Hope he proves me wrong.

Cishek out for another inning. They really need to hide him from Maddon for a couple weeks.

Jansen looks so shaky, but he may wiggle out of this. Didn’t he used to throw over 90 mph?
Maddon is too fascinated with the contact play. He runs the Cubs into a lot of outs.

F*CK.

Almora absolutely should have scored. Horrible lead. Jensen was totally shaky. This should have been a W. This one pisses me off.

With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the contact play is absolutely right. You're giving up an out if you don't run, and if you are thrown out at home, there will still be a runner at third.

Definitely the correct play for Almora to try and score there, he just did not execute. Plus with the Dodgers giving up the stolen base it was right back to 2nd and 3rd with two out when Baez lined out.

Not sure if mentioned on a prior page, but just heard on the radio that Kyle Hendricks to the IL with shoulder inflammation.

edited to add, evidently I've been at my cabin too long for this is old news ;)

Almora was almost at a complete standstill when that ball left the bat. If he is moving toward home at all, he scores.

Is that on Butterfield or is that a baseball IQ thing? Someone like Javy would have been halfway home with the pitch.

Could’ve got a better jump, but if you get over aggressive you could find yourself getting picked off or in a run down. Russell Martin is no joke back there for the Dodgers.

I agree that Martin is no joke, but what I was saying is Almora was flat-footed. He also wasn't very far off base to begin with. Get your secondary lead and be ready to go.

Discipline is not their strong suit. Honestly it's hard to believe maddon isn't at least partially to blame for it.
How many times can guys repeatedly make the same stupid mistakes?

But also remember that there was a runner on 2nd. If Almora is the only runner or it's first and 3rd, then maybe you play more conservatively. With 2nd and 3rd, if you don't run contact play, you are basically wasting an out. With the contact play, you force the D to come home or give up the run. If you're out, the runner on 2nd moves to 3rd and you still have a runner a wild pitch away from scoring. Contact play was a no-brainer for me....Albert just had a crappy secondary and was flat-footed.

There’s talk he could be available as soon as this homestand. That’s just remarkable.

I hope he's not rushing himself into an injury....but it is pretty clear that he was working hard and keeping himself right.
