*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

Somewhere in this nation Mr. Joe Girardi is getting
phone calls from Mr. Theo Epstein. He is telling Joe
to start putting his house in New York City for sale
and start looking for a home in suburban Chicago.
Nailed it.

Would it be safe to say the euphoria for Alzolay has cooled a bit?

Cubs are struggling, but no one looks capable of running away with that division.

Not for me. Big kid who can consistently hit the mid 90s. He got roughed up tonight. Long term he just has to do what every other pitcher has to do. Take your lumps and learn from them. My only fear would have been if he’d walked off the mound clutching his right elbow.

I doubt Theo and Jed want another old school manager like Girardi. They want a manager that will essentially be a puppet to the front office

The Chicago Cubs won 14 games and lost 15 games
in June. This is not the way you win the Central
Division. Milwaukee and St. Louis are still in the chase.
Manager Joe Maddon needs to light a match under the
butts of the players and get them excited about winning.

It's going to be interesting ...

I think people need to keep in mind that the cubs have been awful at determining the length of time missed for injuries. If they say a month it’s probably really 2.

I'll remind you that Morrow is now throwing a baseball 130 feet. He'll be back soon.

With the Cubbies in apparent "free fall", it's looking like they might be "sellers" in the trade market by the end of July. As big contract decisions are within a year or three... are they a candidate for a total remake?

It's looking like that WS title was a freak accident.

4.5 games out of the cellar of the NL Central.

I wonder if there is any chance Maddon gets fired? We know that Theo Epstein believes himself (along with Hoyer and McLeod) to be infallible. We also know that he will likely want to shake things up at the deadline, but there are few things they can do with their roster and bottom 5 farm system. I sure hope they don't, but I could see it happening.

I also hope they don't trade one of the 2-3 decent prospects in their system to make a run this year. The organization goes downhill every year, and if they trade good prospects, they'll be in tough shape come 2021. Theo might not care as there is about a 2% chance he is with the Cubs beyond his contract.

And 1 games out of first. What is your point of being in the Cubs thread, other than to gloat about the Yankees? 75% of the time you know nothing about actual baseball. Go finish giving Cashman and Steinbrenner their daily knob slobber. You make reading this thread unbearable at times.

I think somebody needs to get traded off this roster, pronto. Shake things up. Send a message to the clubhouse.

What I just posted reminds me of a story I heard on the Spittin Chiclets podcast about how GM's would try to send a message to "shake up the room" and trade a 4th liner or 7th defensemen. The 1st and 2nd liners and star players would just laugh about it because it's not the 4th liners fault the team was losing, it was the 1st liner star player who wasn't producing, but he was untradeable.

Point is, when I say trade somebody to send a message I am not talking about trading some role player, I'm talking about trading somebody like Schwarber, that would send a message. Trade him for a real lead-off man.

Read the thread title! It's a discussion of the 2019 season. Looks more like a Theo circle jerk to me.

There can't be an objective Cubs fan on this site that thinks this team is not under performing. The injuries to a few players is not any worse than most every team in MLB. That's no excuse for this teams abysmal performance.

The only saving grace is no team is breaking away from the pack. Past years' results have nothing to do with management's poor roster makeup... the biggest being Descalso still being on the team.

Maddon is coaching like a lame duck manager. That "batting the pitcher 8th" system is one of the stupidest stunts ever. If that was a good idea... every team would do it.

Regarding KS... some clown will show up to defend that decision with some meaningless stat that betrays the eyeballs.

I don't think you folks would be this sensitive if you didn't agree with my objective opinions of the current Cubs team. We all realize they are a deeply flawed team and that MAJOR changes are needed.

Getting Kimbrel was a no brainer. Getting a legit leadoff is too. Fixing the 2nd base hole should be next. A #3 starter should be on the list.

These are all things that need to be addressed if you want to meet the LAD in the NLCS.

I would trade Kris Bryant.
