*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

He's a clear upgrade against lefties. Almora certainly isn't doing it and we will see with Happ. If he is worth 1 or 2 wins down the stretch in a tight race, isn't that worth it?
What's he gonna get, maybe 50-60 PA vs lefties this year?
I don't know if it is "worth it" as I don't follow the farm guys a bunch. Giving up all 3 pitchers for this guy as a rental..... doesn't seem worth it to me.

he crushes left handed pitchers and we are very weak in the outfield with RH bats.

I assume the OF vs LH pitchers will be something like Happ, Almora, Castellanos
and vs RH picthers something like Schwarber, Happ, Heyward
still don't like it.
other than G gonz, do the turds or drunks even have a good lefty starter?
i think a high obp righty that could actually be a lead off guy would be much more beneficial. i'm so sick of seeing a lead off hitter that can't even come close to a .350 obp, it's like it's a requirement you must have a low obp! of course my opinion is worthless, i know :)

They should have traded for one of the twenty one guys at .350+ this year. Should be easy

This team this year is getting harder and harder to cheer for.
i find myself cheating more and more when watching recorded games. 15/16/17 I'd be watching regardless because you never knew what they were gonna do next. lately you can pretty much tell when it is time to turn it off

Is that wrong? Belt at .352 is #21. Machado at .348 is #22.
yes that IS wrong!
check that list of 21 and tell me where willy, jhey, rizz and kb are.....

even better, where are the 2 nl mvp candidates, or what about trout?

Last year he was rated the worst defensive player regardless of position by one rating metric.
Where is he going to play? Right Field or Left?

My bad I thought you were saying a righty with a high obp above .350 would be more beneficial. Not sure how those other players factor into that.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you can just go F yourself twice, and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Wait there is more...statistically he is the worst fielder in the history of baseball

There was one more trade for the Cubs today. They sent OF prospect Jimmy Herron to the Rockies for IFA cap space. Herron was a 3rd round draft pick last year and has some upside. The Cubs went nuts earlier this month on signings, or agreeing to sign some kids. This will probably allow them to make another signing or two depending upon how much cash they get in return for Herron.

Hendricks due to hit a brick wall soon

Due is solid for 4-5 innings then he’s toast
He pitched a complete game 89-pitch shutout earlier this year. I just don't think Maddon stays with him long enough sometimes. Took him out way too early in Game 7 of the WS, too, IMO.

I guess that I am an old schooler who believes starters should be able to go 7+ innings. If starters could consistently do that, we would be less reliant on the BP, and maybe have a couple more bench players to use every game.

How I miss the old days. Fergie threw 30 CGs one year. That is totally unimaginable today, even for a complete staff, if not a complete league.

Pretty much exactly what I suspected tonight would look like. Happ with the key hit.

Hendricks gonna get into the 7th will be interesting, but the guy simply owns StL. They gotta ride him here.

Joe West can’t run and walking looks painful. When is he going to call it a career?
My guess is he will try and work through next season in order to pass Bill Klem as the all time leader in games umpired.
And, to be fair, he is still a massive jerk, but if the statistics are to be believed he does call a decent game from behind the plate.

Gotta love all the Cubs GMs on the board. They say the minors are so weak in pitching then the cubs trade those “weak” pitchers for a pretty good hitter and they bitch.

I'm ok with the trade. I will say, though, that some of the perceived concern would stem from the fact that it seemed the Cubs are finally starting to look like there are some decent arms lining up in A and AA and while there aren't a bunch of "locks", dealing a chunk of the volume cuts down the Cubs' odds.

Unlike the Quintana and Chapman deals, though, the Cubs didn't give up any obvious gold in this deal. None of these guys appear to be anything close to Dylan Cease.
