*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

This didn't age well - Mckinstry is doing really well for the Tigers. I certainly didn't expect it either.
860 OPS for the year 125 at bats so small sample size, but 917 OPS in May so not cooling off as of yet
I don’t wish ill will towards him, but the Dodgers gave up on him before the Cubs did. He just doesn’t seem like a full time MLB player. If he performs all year long I’ll happily say I was wrong. I just don’t see where he was going to get regular ABs at with the Cubs that would have made the team better.

I was calling for his release to open up a 40 man spot so I'm stunned with how well he is doing.

JFC. They can’t stand success.

Bit outside, but 2 close to take with 2 strikes
I sort of get it, but that was a pitch with like 20” horizontal movement that never got back to the plate. That’s a pitch you read out of the hand as seeming several inches outside.

Big win tonight, but still playing consistently in the margins of close games, which highlights every single managerial move, every AB with RISP and every late inning bullpen change. I talked about all that stuff on this week’s episode.

Here to give props to Taillon. As much as he’s driven me nuts, I certainly don’t WANT him to suck. No doubt the very best thing for the Cubs is for him to find his groove. Hopefully, this was the first step.

As long as I’m here, how about Alzolay - one of the top set-up guys in baseball. And Leiter with a very nice bounce-back outing. The Cubs pen needs those two performing.

Agree with all of the above. I’ve seen some quibbling in other places kind of still hammering Taillon for not finishing 6, but after the way he’s been throwing, his performance yesterday was a big win.

Also agree on Alzolay and Leiter, but it’s going to be critical to keep Merryweather going and get some other guys to step up. If the Cubs are going to keep playing these close games, they need more. If it has to be Adbert & Mark every day, their arms will fall off by the break.

Steele to the IL, and Amaya comes up? He’d better not come up and sit on the bench. If you want a bat there are others you could bring up.

Ross played Morel and Mervis when they came up, but agree, there needs to be a plan. I don’t care about tonight, since he just had to travel west.
