*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Very weird stat on BN today, the Cubs are 3-16 on weekend games. 22-16 on weekdays. How does that happen?

Are you saying this 6 run lead's not safe?
I hate to quibble with Ross, but why did he use 3 relief pitchers in 3 innings with a 6 run lead? Good Lord, see if one of them can go 2 innings. His bullpen usage is head scratching.

I was surprised to see Fulmer go 2 games in a row, especially since he went 2 IP in the first game. Hopefully though he is turning it around. As a side note, I love Sutcliffe in the booth. I think he offers better insight than the others.

I’m fun and gabby when I’ve had a few drinks, too.

That’s bizarre. Have to think it’s pretty much noise. It’s not lopsided home and away (5 home, 5 away so far). Not sure it’s quality of team - weekends have been Brewers, Rangers, Dodgers x2, Marlins x2, Twins, Phillies, Reds, Padres.

Yesterday broke a streak of 6 straight Sunday losses and the Cubs are currently on a streak of 4 straight Saturday losses. I think it has to be noise.

Intersting note in BN today about Morel working at 1B with the coaches. Supposedly he bats much better when he's playing in the field versus being a DH. I don't know if they might move Mervis back to Iowa for a little more work, but why not shift Wisdom over to 1B, and let Morel play at 3B a little? I am sure they want to work on flexibility, but Des Moines and Mesa are the places for working on flexibility.

I think it’s pretty clear they have no interest in him at 3B. Not so much as a stray inning this year.

Tuesday night is Ohio State night for the Cubs??? Why wouldn’t that be for Cleveland or Cincinnati?

I’m not a “blame the ump” guy and the Cubs still had other chances to win this game, but there’s absolutely no doubt that Phil Cuzzi changed the course of the game with his calls in the first two innings. Snell has been walking tons of guys and Cuzzi saved him at least 2 more in the first inning yesterday and the Cubs could very easily have gotten their first 4 guys on base. Cubs get up early and Snell throws another 15-20 pitches before the end of 2 innings and it’s a completely different ballgame.

If Cuzzi had been consistent then it would have been different. But he wasn't consistent from Snell to Hendricks at all. If he gives both pitchers those calls then I wouldn't have a beef with him.

ED Howard makes his return to South Bend tonight.
Let's see how that hip looks. Elite defense and a little offense made him an elite prospect. If that hip isn't right it's a bad turn for him. But, at 21 there is hope.

He seemed to be making real strides with his bat early last season before the injury. He never got enough time to know if it was just a hot start or whether he really changed. That said, great point about him still being 21, he could easily still have another 3, maybe even 4 years as a “prospect” before we can really declare him a bust, whether due to injury or not.

Luis Devers is also coming back to action in South Bend. It’ll be great to get that guy back up on the mound.

Mervis with the big hit against a lefty. Oh, it was a sloppy, hanging breaking ball, but he whacked it.

I went to bed with the Cubs up 4-1 and feeling pretty positive about things. I'm glad I didn't stay up for the disappointment.

Yeah, you went to bed with visions of sugar plums dancing in your head only to wake up later and find out that the Grinch had made an uninvited appearance.

The cubs already sold the souls of their fans so they could transform Wrigleyville into Rickettsville. How bout they just spend some of the billions they are hoarding as the fans are facing the EIGHTH losing season in 14 years of ownership. Such a shit bag family. Inexcusable.
