LOL, I turned it off going into the 5th and never checked the score until this morning.Never worried.
It was a terrible trade, could have gotten Verlander for way less. But no…..idiots thought we needed a leftyAs long as we are discussing deadline deals, and I'm throwing a little cold water on prospective MLB ready returns, which player the Cubs traded away in a deadline deal has been the most productive? Dylan Cease immediately comes to mind, but he isn't too far into his career. I know people hate to hear it, but the Cubs did get 3 1/3 years of Jose Quintana for Cease and Eloy Jiminez. That was a decent trade.
Any of you guys still feeling the sting of trading away Hak Ju Lee?
Good example of a decision that made Theo good at building a championship caliber team but not good at sustaining them as he admitted on the way outIt was a terrible trade, could have gotten Verlander for way less. But no…..idiots thought we needed a lefty
Dude, that was a tremendously horrible trade for the Cubs. It wasn't even one of those "now that we look back on it, it was a bad deal" trades; it was obviously horrible on the day it happened. Cease should have won the Cy Young last season if it weren't for Verlander being unhuman. Yeah, he's not the same this year, but he will have a solid career with the potential to have a terrific one. The only thing that has made it halfway tolerable is the fact that Eloy has had injury issues, but he hits like Morel when he's healthy, and could for years and years. I don't care how you spin it, it was not a "decent" trade by any means. As long as we are discussing deadline deals, and I'm throwing a little cold water on prospective MLB ready returns, which player the Cubs traded away in a deadline deal has been the most productive? I’d like to have all the fans who thought the cubs were being cheap, BenDover and shove this stat up their collective asses
I keep looking back thinking Addison Russel could have been flipped for Yelich….damnGood example of a decision that made Theo good at building a championship caliber team but not good at sustaining them as he admitted on the way out

Riz and Schwarbs were definitely valuable to their teams last year but definitely glad those other two said no. Always wondered if the KB service time manipulation was a factor with that group. Also worth pointing out the Cubs offered Bryant, rizzo and Baez more than what they sighed for. I wish they had kept schwarber and taught him to play first base.
That ejection was weak-sauce. Soft toss at the butt is an acceptable "We don't like what you did" retaliation. I think it was going to end there; a bean-ball contest was unlikely. Umps should have just issued warnings.

Or, just held onto the average LF play knowing the DH was coming. Also worth pointing out the Cubs offered Bryant, rizzo and Baez more than what they sighed for. I wish they had kept schwarber and taught him to play first base.
Don't be mad at me, Bro. Be mad at Jason McLeod. He's the stiff that didn't acquire or develop any pitching. That made a trade for a reliable, cost controlled starter a necessity. Cease was also a bit of an injury risk, by the way.Dude, that was a tremendously horrible trade for the Cubs. That was so slick on that double play. It's amazing that he is so skilled at two positions.Bellinger doing it on offense & defense tonight.
A loopy swing which dings the catcher deserves retaliation? Christ, Happ gave Willson a hug on his way out. That ejection was weak-sauce. Horse shit. Verlander was basically a salary dump for the tigers. Imagine the Cubs in 2017-2019 with Verlander, and the bonus of Kate Upton at games.Don't be mad at me, Bro. Be mad at Jason McLeod. It's been that way for how long? The Cardinals have been so bad for decades at hitting batters. La Russa, Matheny.. Who else? they were all red asses who ordered hits. I'm not minimizing the danger of the play, but there was no intent by Happ. It's possible Contreras was up a little too far?A loopy swing which dings the catcher deserves retaliation? **** the Cardinals and their ****ed up way of thinking. I hope the Arch falls on their stadium and they have to play all their games in Memphis.
But it was the Cardinals' Way.It's been that way for how long? The Cardinals have been so bad for decades at hitting batters. La Russa, Matheny.. Who else? they were all red asses who ordered hits. That would have been nice, but we can't play the "what if", game. That trade didn't happen. If you want to play that game I'll go to my grave saying the Cubs should have gotten Andrew Miller instead of Aroldis Chapman in 2016.Horse shit. Verlander was basically a salary dump for the tigers. Thinking you need to throw at anyone when it was clearly an accident between 2 friends who embraced afterward is weak sauce. That's how he swings. The way it backfired is exactly why they wouldn't have done it if they were in contention. Standard Busch league BS, ejection or notThat ejection was weak-sauce. we badly need a better SP than SmylyNo starter listed for tomorrow, yet. I believe it's Smyly's turn, so start Fulmer again? He hasn't pitched in several days. Try and squeeze 2 innings out of Assad to start the game?
No, but I have my doubts about Arenado starting for the Cardinals by Sunday.Glad to see the Cubs jump all over Mikolas tonight.
He just didn't have it.
Gotta wonder if he might start another game in this series, especially if the Cardinals trade a couple of their starters in the coming days.
He's in the minors right now. Two of them to be precise. Hell, I'd rather start Assad at this point.we badly need a better SP than Smyly
How long is he signed for?No, but I have my doubts about Arenado starting for the Cardinals by Sunday.
The Quintana trade was maybe a bit of an overpay, but he definitely delivered in 2017 and was a serviceable pitcher, like you said, for more than 3 seasons. The one that stands out to me was the Jeimer Candelario & Isaac Paredes deal to Detroit for Justin Wilson and Alex Avila. Avila was very good and Wilson was one of the best relievers on the market (and a lefty), but he was absolute trash after the trade and wasn’t all that great the next year. I know those guys were blocked, but Theo talked about developing a system with “waves and waves” of talent and that was the beginning of the end of the 2nd wave.As long as we are discussing deadline deals, and I'm throwing a little cold water on prospective MLB ready returns, which player the Cubs traded away in a deadline deal has been the most productive? It wasn’t just a soft toss at his butt - that was pitch #2. The first pitch was 94 up around the chin shoulders. If Mikolas wanted to be tough guy and ”send a message” (message=don’t accidentally backswing too far?), he got to send that one and the umps let it go and Happ said nothing. You don’t go back again. That ejection was weak-sauce. Soft toss at the butt is an acceptable "We don't like what you did" retaliation. I think it was going to end there; a bean-ball contest was unlikely. Umps should have just issued warnings.
Not sure why they’re not calling Wesneski, but it appears they’re doing another opener. Ross said after the game that it would be a right hander, but he needed to see how guys felt tomorrow. My guess is either Fulmer again or Assad. Weird, pretty sure they’ve held Wesneski from starting since 7/22 (per looking at his Fangraphs game log today), so not sure why he’s not coming up, maybe he will.No starter listed for tomorrow, yet. I believe it's Smyly's turn, so start Fulmer again? He hasn't pitched in several days. Try and squeeze 2 innings out of Assad to start the game?
Maybe 3 in Iowa. I’d definitely start Wesneski & Brown over Smyly right now, and maybe even Kilian. He's in the minors right now. Two of them to be precise. Hell, I'd rather start Assad at this point.
