He declined an opt-out this past offseason, his last opt-out of the deal. He’s signed for 4 more seasons, reaches FA in 2028 - at a cumulative total of $110M or so for the rest of his deal. How long is he signed for?
Cubs make an offer????

I watched the game replay tonight on Marquee and noticed that Mikolas and Kninzer had a "mound conversation" of the "glove covering mouth" conversation variety prior to his brushback pitch to Happ, as if to say, "I've been told what I need to do here, so no need to call a pitch."It wasn’t just a soft toss at his butt - that was pitch #2. The first pitch was 94 up around the chin shoulders. If Mikolas wanted to be tough guy and ”send a message” (message=don’t accidentally backswing too far?), he got to send that one and the umps let it go and Happ said nothing. You don’t go back again.
Perhaps they don’t want to burn an option move for Palencia or Assad, given either would the logical choice to send down if they call someone up. Just a guess…a weak guess at best. Not sure why they’re not calling Wesneski, but it appears they’re doing another opener. Ross said after the game that it would be a right hander, but he needed to see how guys felt tomorrow. My guess is either Fulmer again or Assad. Weird, pretty sure they’ve held Wesneski from starting since 7/22 (per looking at his Fangraphs game log today), so not sure why he’s not coming up, maybe he will.
I understand that, but I was upset that they didn’t go for Verlander. It was the classic we need a lefty crap. Verlander would have cost much less in prospects. That would have been nice, but we can't play the "what if", game. That trade didn't happen. If you want to play that game I'll go to my grave saying the Cubs should have gotten Andrew Miller instead of Aroldis Chapman in 2016.
7 years too lateIt sounds like the Mets might be willing to deal Justin Verlander.
Bitch ass Cardinals, lol.
this7 years too late
It’s a good point on Assad, as I think he can only go down one more time, after that he would have to clear waivers and he wouldn’t. It probably is a bullpen numbers game until the deadline. Rucker could go down, but they might be shopping him. Will be interesting to see what happens to rosters from Chicago to Myrtle Beach after the deadline.Perhaps they don’t want to burn an option move for Palencia or Assad, given either would the logical choice to send down if they call someone up. Just a guess…a weak guess at best.
Umps stick it to the Cards again.
Mikolas stuck it to the Cards last night. What a stupid, selfish move that might set their bullpen back the entire series.Umps stick it to the Cards again.
You must have meant to post this in the ****Official Cardinals 2023 Thread****Umps stick it to the Cards again.
That's about what I expected, trashy people just gravitate toward that franchise. This isn't the 70's, these guys are worth so much that if you blatantly try to bean someone on b2b pitches just expect to get run.BN write up about the trashy Cardinals behavior last night, with a 2 minute video clip. It extended to Chip Carey on the call. What a bag of garbage he’s become.

Sure. Selfish, childish act by a decent pitcher having a crap year.Umps stick it to the Cards again.
So, does Lance Lynn start against the Cubs tonight? Speaking of teams that may be selling. There is a lot of chatter about Lynn being dealt by game time tonight.
Marlins at the time were near crazy on their ask for Yelich. They ended up trading for less because everyone but the Brewers moved on. So hard to fault teams there.I keep looking back thinking Addison Russel could have been flipped for Yelich….damn
I’d probably still hate Yelich anyway. Very punchable face.Marlins at the time were near crazy on their ask for Yelich. They ended up trading for less because everyone but the Brewers moved on. So hard to fault teams there.
imagine he and Baez together in 2018 and 2019….badassI’d probably still hate Yelich anyway. Very punchable face.
It's cute that you think the Cards lost this game because of the umps.Umps stick it to the Cards again.
Great move by the organization. Would love for Wes to have a great Aug-Sept and give the Cubs a dilemma of figuring out what to do with Smyly next season when Brown and Wicks are also ready for the Big Leagues.

The League stuck it to the Cardinals again. Lol
If Smyly is on the team next year, Jed should be fired.Great move by the organization. Would love for Wes to have a great Aug-Sept and give the Cubs a dilemma of figuring out what to do with Smyly next season when Brown and Wicks are also ready for the Big Leagues.
He just can’t be in the Opening Day rotation. He needs to back to the pen, piggy back and fill in for injuries. Gotta limit his innings. If Smyly is on the team next year, Jed should be fired.
So, Assad’s roll, only with an $8.5 million price tag….He just can’t be in the Opening Day rotation. He needs to back to the pen, piggy back and fill in for injuries. Gotta limit his innings.
Taillon will be fine. Smyly, if they don’t/can’t move him, still has some value to salvage that’s better than eating $8.5M.So, Assad’s roll, only with an $8.5 million price tag….
I guess Smyly falling apart is better than Taillon. For a while it was looking like the Cubs would have the most expensive garbage-time reliever in history.
