*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

LOL at Bell going all old school and getting himself tossed. It's Bell, right? Or, is that a Boone managing the Reds? Whatever, I guess he thought his pitcher would get better if he was tossed.
David Bell….I was stuck with the Reds announcers and even they were non-plussed over the rampage, as they had been commenting all night long how tight the zone was all the time for both teams and they acknowledged that the pitches in that AB were balls. I wonder if Wheeler was chirping from the mound leading Bell to be a distraction to save his pitcher.

No, Harris was waiving him on. He's aggressive. He's no Waivin' Wendall Kim, but he's close.
I’d have immediately killed the send as soon as I saw Friedl make the successful barehand grab.. That send didn’t even take two perfect throws (even though the Reds got them), Madrigal was out by 50 feet. Horrendous send by Willie.

Is it just me or does it seem like the ball is jumping off the bats by both teams this series. What appears to be a lazy pop fly ends up on the warning track and line drives bouncing off the ivy
Summertime at Wrigley.

Although, to be fair, Madrigal probably would have run through the stop sign anyway.

I have to give some props to Madrigal. He's been competent at 3B, and he's been stinging the ball lately. He'll never have power like a 3B should have, but he's becoming a useful MLB player.
He's 5'8", 175lbs. I had no idea he was that small until I saw him in the post game hand shakes around the other players last night.

drove in from DBQ and met 3 of my kids at the game. Crap game. Great weather. Eating at Shaws seafood on Hubbard. Braves have an imposing lineup to say the least. We seemed a little flat. The crowd was buzzing until that 4th inning.

2 in a row where Hendricks is less than stellar. Ugh, I hope they don't get swept.
Meh. The Cubs lost 3-0 in his previous start. I think he went 6 innings in that one. That’s a quality start. Today was a stinker, no doubt, but who wins if your team doesn’t score? Zero runs in his last two starts.

I’m going to Des Moines tomorrow to see the stars of the future as long as the rain (Which we need) holds off until after the game.

3 zip with 8 k's and no walks in 7 IP. Point remains the last 2 games he's pitched the Cubs have been shut out. And today he flat out had a meltdown?

Atlanta is a odds on favs to win it all. I said Cubs need to win 1 of 3, but....

edit: my typing sucks.

He said when Hendricks starts, the Cubs don’t score, that’s what I was laughing at.

As for Hendricks, if you look at him as the #4/#5 that he is now, he’s been largely fine. His last start was against STL on 7/30 and he pitched 7 innings and gave up 3 runs. Not sure about “stellar”, but it’s a quality start and kept the team in the game, giving them a chance to win.

What does Hendricks have to do with the Cubs getting shut out? They’d have scored 12 if Kilian pitched??

Game only took 2:09 today

that’s a fast ass kicking, if there is any silver lining it saved a lot of guys from buying a lot more $12 beers
It was a pretty wild game, really. Hendricks & Fried were both 9-up/9-down to start the game, then ATL scored 7 on 8 hits in the 4th, but for the game, the Braves had 8 runs and 11 hits. You obviously can’t take that one inning out because everything plays differently after that, but it’s not like the Braves were just destroying the ball all day - they hit hard and they hit fast in that one inning and then Wesneski & Cuas didn’t allow much more after that.

Man if only Taillon could have had an average first half instead of an awful one we'd be in damn good shape but I won't complain too much, this is fun as hell. Schedule gets very favorable here soon.

Hats off to the players for forcing front office's hand at deadline, Jeimer looking to be an ok pickup so far🤣

Cubs need to make hay when they can. They finish the season with 3 games in Atlanta followed by 3 in Milwaukee.

Hopefully the Braves will have the home field locked up by then and they might take it "easy" that week.

He pitched, Cubs got shut out. 3 cast offs and hamburger pitched tonight and the Cubs won.

See how that works? It's Hendricks fault they got shut out!
