*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Well, if they keep facing a position player pitching in mop up duty that will boost the confidence, and numbers.
Whoever said Dallas Kuechel, I agree. Call me crazy, but we need to scour the minors for bullpen guys. Not that Dallas is a reliever, but in the playoffs (and they are making the playoffs) we need cannon armed kids to blow hitters away.

Cubs should kick the tires on Dallas Keuchel with stroman in the IL. He opted out of his contract with the Twins and has pitched great in AAA. Yeah, he’s old; but maybe has something left. Some contender will give him a shot the rest of the year I would think.

Haven’t reward the details; but, I had no idea a vet could just opt out of a minor league contract like that.
Yeah, there are quite a few scenarios, actually, where a guy can opt out of a deal if he’s not on the ML roster.

One thing I learned this week is Cincinnati is not good defensively. Regardless of how the Cubs end their season, no way the Reds play deep into October if by chance they earn a playoff spot.

Thanks. I’m 99.99% sure that was an early, erroneous report. All discussions I’ve heard and every major place I go for contract info has the $12.5M mutual option. If it was $25M, it would have been in question earlier this year whether he’d take it or not.
Hmm. Now this article from the Chicago Trib is mentioning the $25m mutual option as well. Not a big deal as it will be declined either way; just curious on the actual option.

That’s so weird. Until this thread in the last couple days i don’t think I had seen literally anything on the mutual option being $25M at all since he signed. At this point, he’d opt out either way, but when he missed a month with that leg injury and his numbers were ok, but not great, a $25M option would have been very much potentially in play….but the more widely reported $12.5M wouldn’t. Megan Montemurro is typically pretty reliable, too.

Before Candelario, I just want to know the last time a major leaguer got four hits in each of his first two games with his new team after being traded. I wonder if it’s the first time ever…

The Reds needed starting pitching help, and didn't go out and get any notable pitchers, also.

I heard that Greene is due back in about 3 weeks and Lodolo is due back about a week later. They could be really hurting by that time, though.

Taillon is bound and determined to get into some trouble every inning.

LOL at Bell going all old school and getting himself tossed. It's Bell, right? Or, is that a Boone managing the Reds? Whatever, I guess he thought his pitcher would get better if he was tossed.

Yeah, David Bell.

That's a rookie umpire behind the plate making his ML debut I believe. His strike zone has been a lot more consistent that some we have seen lately.

Why did they send Madrigal there??????

It's been a better strike zone than two of the games in this series, and the send was moronic. Forget that ELDC was the relay man, you have no outs. Hold the runner and you have 2nd and 3rd with no outs.

Is it just me or does it seem like the ball is jumping off the bats by both teams this series. What appears to be a lazy pop fly ends up on the warning track and line drives bouncing off the ivy
