*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Cubs really need to handle his situation delicately. They'll have a hard time keeping him out of the Majors next year if he continues to tear up AAA, but I think of situations like with Kilian and Mervis and I really don't want him brought up too quickly (and he's quite a bit younger than those two). And when he DOES come up he needs to be playing everyday, and the Cubs outfield is already crowded, especially if they re-sign Belli like we all want. Will be very interesting.

If he can help the team...play him.

Bryant's situation was a matter of days....dumb to wait a year if he can help immediately next year. Obviously there is a jump in pitching, but the jump is more in the consistency than stuff. I would have much rather faced Randy Johnson in the majors than in the minors :)

You try and trade Happ and Suzuki or release them.

Release two players with All Star potential....and pay each of them 20 million a year, so they can pick the team the want to play for with the only money question they have centered around local income tax?

I’ve been proven right over and over again this season that those two are no more than fourth outfielders.

Dang - I wish you ran our front office. You would do these outside of the box moves that no one else would dream of.

Only a genius would come up the idea to release the following two players for the low low price of $120 million dollars. Chump change.

Who else, but you, would be smart enough cut a Gold Glove outfielder - that has not made an error this year and has created the most double plays from Left Field - just because this year he is only just a bit better than average as a hitter.

Right field - cut him also - he is also only slightly better than average and just solid in the outfield.

Troll better.

For $21 million more this year - we could have one more run scored than our current short stop.

You are the reverse Billy Beane - should pitch that to some MLB team - I am sure someone out there wants to throw away their money on your ideas.
Yeah he's a moron, and not just in this thread! Every time I click on Show Ignored Content I quickly remember why I put said idiot on ignore in the first place.

If I was running the Cubs I wouldn’t have paid Happ and Suzuki. I would have paid Seager and Freddie Freeman.

LOL. You mean with gems like these:
Joe Girardi will be in the Cubs dugout by June 1st.

You haven't been "proven right" about jack sh*t. All you've done is rip on underperforming players, made inane comments about former players, and proclaimed yourself a genius who would have clearly built a Yankees-like dynasty by now if you had only been given the chance. LOL

It's pretty dumb when you say release a $120 million dollars for nothing and then you backtrack by saying I would have signed Seager and Freeman. He got owned and then doubled down which makes him look like a clown or a troll or perhaps both.

I don't mind Happ it's just he shouldn't be hitting 3rd or 4th in the lineup. He plays an amazing LF and has the ability to get on a tear offensively. He's just way to inconsistent, doesn't hit for enough power and doesn't play good situational baseball to be consistently hitting 3rd. Suzuki is just a guy though. Can't defend him at all.

Who do you think? Hawkeye "Awesome Armchair GM" Hitman.
Nope, not ringing a bell.
The beauty of this thread and the Ukraine thread is that people of normally divergent views can co-exist. Lots of guys in this thread I agree with never in every other thread. It's nice. But, I don't suffer baseball fools.

If I was running the Cubs Happ would have been gone at the trade deadline last year and Suzuki would have never been signed. I’m rebuilding the lineup with Seager and Freeman. Bryant would have been gone at the end of 2019.

Thank God you aren’t because you are a mouth breathing hack.

I guess we should all cede this thread to the GDR01 vs. HH war. Congrats, guys, on being all knowing on baseball.

You have a better chance of winning the World Series with Cory Seager and Freddie Freeman on your team than building a team around Happ and Suzuki. Why does everyone think so damn highly of them? They’re average a best and you guys think you can win a World Series with them as the Cubs best players.

Who in this thread has ever said that? Most of the discussion is about whether they can make the playoffs (which does not equal winning the WS) and about how they need to continue to develop the kids and add more high-end talent. But troll on, please.

Not linking this one, but I know many of you read Bleed Cubbie Blue. Good piece there today about the remaining schedule for the Cubs, Brewers, and Reds. Arguably the Cubs have the most favorable schedule. Baseball is 162 games, and things are fairly well balanced over the season, but the Cubs do have a good schedule through the remaining weeks.
Now they have to go out and capitalize on the opportunity.

You mean like not losing 2 of 3 to the dumpster fire Mets?

Problem with the schedule is in the first half the Cubs played the better teams better and would then lose to the crappy teams. That cannot happen down this stretch run.

So, any guesses as to why David Ross was ejected? I saw them arguing, but it looked like the ump tossed him while standing in short left field in between innings?

This is why we can't have nice things as Cubs fans. A night of soft contact and bloopers minus the homer by Roberts, and 1,2,3 we're losing to a dog sh*t team.
