*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

I read that the Cubs are going to be giving him some corner OF starts at Iowa in the coming days. Speculation is that he will be called up in September, if not sooner, to play any of the outfield positions.
I think that’s pretty likely. Cubs are currently sitting at 38 guys on the 40-man roster after letting Barnhart go and claiming lefty Edwin Uceta off waivers from the Mets. There’s a good chance Brad Boxberger and Nick Burdi could be back this month, which could fill the 40-man, but there are still adjustments that could be made easily enough to accommodate PCA and/or Jordan Wicks or anyone else not currently on the 40-man.

Amaya is now 1 of 20 throwing guys out. And, yes, I fully realize part of it could be Hendricks’ fault.

It looks like Adbert tried to give it away, but....

I know the base stealing is up this year, but that’s still pretty disappointing. I don’t know a whole lot about Amaya, but my understanding was that his highest value was his defensive catching skills, which I assumed included throwing base runners out.

KC is fast, runs often and throwing guys out hasn’t been a strength this year for Amaya. Add that Hendricks has struggled with the running game and here we go. Royals were 6 of 7 on the base paths for the weekend.

It’s good to see Adbert gut one out when he didn’t have good stuff and find a way. There will be days like this, so it‘s nice when the Cubs can win in spite of it.

Remember he’s still coming back from TJ surgery. He really didn’t catch until spring training - when he returned last year and then in the fall league, he was playing DH and 1B. We’ll see where he goes. Would be great for him to finish the year healthy and have a full offseason.

See hawki’s responses, but KH addressed it post game and shouldered a lot of blame, saying he needs to get better at keeping runners close.

Two errors led to two runs. He wasn’t the problem today.
I misread 4 ER's, was only 2 so I'll take back what i said about doing his thing for that game but five months into the season and he has a 5.5 era. He sucks. The team's record for games he starts in is garbage. Defense has to feel pressure to be perfect when he's on the hill

Interesting chatter on the Score this morning about Stroman's injury. The rumor is he was goofing around with some ex teammates in Toronto, and either with them, or with the Cubs players was taking cuts in BP. He's a great athlete, and probably back in HS was a good hitter, and figured he'd just go wing it with the fellas for a bit.
That would explain why he and the team is keeping quiet.

Unfortunately, I totally believe this. I know guys will be guys, and we've all hurt ourselves screwing around, but I think it's a little different when you're a $25M athlete rehabbing an injury and close to returning to action in a playoff race. Ouch!

I was in and out of the room during the TV broadcast yesterday, and Boog was talking with JD about the possibility of Swanson and Hoerner both winning Gold Gloves. He mentioned two other middle infielders who had won in the same year. Who were they? Top of my head I'd say Trammel and Whittaker did it for the Tigers once.

It will be bittersweet watching Javy Baez corkscrew himself into the ground while striking out three times tonight. Hopefully his fourth AB isn't a rocket ship out of the park.

There has been lots of them....Trammell and Whittaker being one.

Most recently was probably Simmons and Kinsler...for most of the season anyway.

Don't miss those at bats by Baez

HOF level talent but a brick for a head in regards to plate discipline. Dude is a victim of his own stubbornness.

Man I ****ing loved watching that guy play until pitchers figured out to just throw out of the zone sliders away and up and in fastballs. Easiest hitter in the league to pitch to.

2 ex-Cubs (Baez and McKinstry) help to tie the game off the ex-Tiger Fulmer.

Javy with the broken bat looper that lands on RF line.

5-5 going to the 9th.

I have to quibble over the bullpen usage. Ross goes so heavy at times, and he’s devoted to clean innings. Case in point Wesneski. He came in and finished out the 6th, and Cuas came in for the 7th. Why not let the guy who has been a starter in the minors all season start the 7th? Get another inning from him. Leiter’s arm is going to fall off at this rate. Alzolay’s, too.

I hate to hijack a good Cubs thread with White Sox news, but thoughts on this? Would they seriously leave Chicago or is this just a negotiating ploy by Reinsdorf?

A big subject on the Score this morning. Never forget that Reinsdorf kicked his ownership of the Sox off by repeatedly threatening to move the franchise.
He needs to sell that team. He is too old, and too set in his ways to make the needed changes.

I assume he’s expecting to have to use Wesneski for multiple innings today piggybacking on Smyly. What I don’t get is with the big early lead, why not go Rucker/Palencia unlessor until someone gets in a jam? Ideally, both Fulmer and Leiter would have stayed down yesterday.
