*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Let’s see how he does when the Cubs are down a run or two with two guys on base and Suzuki at the plate. I guarantee you he craps the bed.
Doubling down on stupid, I see. You must be really p*ssed about how Happ and Suzuki have played the past several weeks.

Great team win in Game 1! Was great to see timely, clutch hitting. Was great to see Wicks and Merryweather gut out solid outings despite not having their best stuff. Glad Keegan got to go 2 innings, striking out golden boy to end the game and saving Leiter & Alzolay for Game 2.

Hope to see this lineup for Game 2:

SS Hoerner
2B Mastrobuoni
LF Happ
CF Belinger
DH Suzuki
1B Candelario
RF Canario
3B Wisdom
C Gomes

really nice outing by Wick today, kid is gonna be a good one
I sure hope so. Seems to have the "stuff".

I remember a Cubs pitcher named Jeff Pico who pitched a complete game shutout in his MLB debut. In fact, he pitched 2 of those that year. I thought he was going to be the next Cubs "ace" of the future at that time. lol I think he is the pitching coach for Detroit now.

FYI, Boxburger only hit 90 on the radar last night according to BN. Not sure that is going to translate into a promotion unless they see other things in his sessions.
That's what I was hearing. We'll see. Only want him if he's going to be able to get outs, obviously.

These are always interesting. Would be great if Cuas, Greene, Smyly and Wes can all pitch 2 solid innings tonight.
I am baffled by this possibility. Why bring Cuas back and pitch him in a role that isn't familiar to him? I would have gone with Greene hoping for 4-5 innings, OR, go with Assad. He's hot right now.

It's a bit hard for me to understand, too, TBH. I thought they stretched out Greene at Iowa so that he would be available for this very scenario. But the team is playing well, so might as well let Ross and Co. do what they think is best for the team.

When the bases were loaded, with 1 out, the chances of the Cubs scoring zero runs increased exponentially.

If its an actual stat, the Cubs have to be in the Top 5 of that category for the past decade.

Cody Bellinger would be a much more dangerous hitter if he had Corey Seager and Freddie Freeman hitting third and fifth in the lineup.

I had kind of hoped the coach would have come to the mound after the HR. That's probably not the protocol, but Alzolay really sped up his pitches after the HR.

This loss fall completely on Suzuki and his Justin Bieber antics.
Well, there goes the Cubs' hope of a 100 win season... :p

Hey, they got a split today in a DH. If anyone has followed the Cubs as long as I have they would realize that a DH split is a WIN for the Cubs. They are still going to gain 0.5 game over either the Phillies or Brewers today.

Tomorrow is a new day.
