*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

We shall see, but I don’t think PCA is in the circle of trust for David Ross. Not in a playoff run.

Depends on what’s driving the move now. If they want his glove in the huge OFs in Denver and Phoenix, he’ll play some, especially if Candelario is going to the IL and Belli to 1B.

Wish PCA was going to be there tonight. I have tickets tonight and can't make any of the other games this week.

Pinch runner and defensive replacement is all I can see. I poo poo'd the Palatine Pounder, Mike Tauchman, earlier in the year, but he's been steady the second half of the season.

Just saw on the official Cubs website that the PCA promotion is official.

Also as indicated above, Alzolay to IL, Fulmer returning.

Canario optioned. Anthony Kay DFA'd. I guess Jared Young is hanging on just a little longer.

Tauchman has been terrible the last month. Like Hosmer bad. His time is over and won’t be on the team next year.

He will not be with the team next season. His defense is solid. I guess we'll find out soon enough. Ideally Bellinger is in CF, but I am not convinced that he doesn't have a nagging injury, and the situation with Candelario is concerning. Bellinger might be playing a lot of 1B.

PCA gets the start tonight in CF.
Candelerio to the IL, and Canario returns, although I doubt he ever left Colorado. This does seem like a spot where maybe you tinker with the 40 man and add PJ Higgins, or some other infielder. Canario was up for 10 games and had one AB against an elite reliever who overmatched him. What's Canario going to do for this team?
And, while I'm venting, what's it going to take for Little or Boxburger to get into a game?

BN article about some interesting late season promotions in the minor league affiliates. Triantos and Ballesteros join Alcantara at AA Tennessee. It's an impressive jump for three very young guys. None of them is over 21, and Ballesteros is just 19. Tennessee already has a solid catching prospect in Pablo Aliendo, so expect Ballesteros to play 1B or DH just to take advantage of his advanced bat.
I am starting to get a Big Panda vibe from Ballesteros. He does not have the chiseled body so many prospects have. He's short, chunky, but he spanks the ball.

2 check swings have led to 3 runs this inning. Assad just wasn't sharp tonight.

Anyone else notice the Steve Bartman clone sitting in the first row behind home plate? Dark green turtle neck, dark jacket, blue Cubs hat and glasses. He was there last night too. Just to the left of home plate facing the backstop.

Turns out it took Assad not having command and check swing hits.

I’d be ok if he tripped up some stairs.

If he can cover the OF like that, he can have whatever hair he wants.
It might be like Samson where he loses his abilities if he cut his hair.

That was a disgusting loss, especially given the opportunity they had to gain a game on PHL, Arizona, and MIA. 4 runs were the result of walks and a HBP and 2 check swing at bats. Throw in some poor base running, especially Madrigal going for 3. Their SP was 1-7 with an ERA over 7 and the Cubs scored 2 runs off him. It's time the bats came back to life.

Few pitchers have great command consistently at Coors Field, and Assad wasn't running the bases last night. Each runner thrown out was going on their own it looked like.
