*******Official Cubs 2025 Thread*******

JFC - The Astros played Jed like a fiddle this offseason.
Not sure Pressly's gonna pick up a lot of 1-run saves this season with a WHIP of >3.

Nice win, though. Great seeing Dansby playing awesome defense despite his early struggles at the plate.

I think we'll see Turner at DH tomorrow against the lefty starter.
Can't have a black hole at DH - 2 for 21 with 11 K means it's time for Seiya to sit for a game or two.

They caught a bit of a break staying in AZ to start the season, but they play 7 in 7, which is an unusual way to start a season. So, they will need to optimize the bullpen and give some days off.

Fun fact I learned from watching the post game show. Edwin Stanberry was translating for Shota Imanaga and PCA in Japanese is PCA.
Who knew?
Later on in the show they played the home run high lights from the Spanish broadcast team, and home run in Spanish is pronounced as home run.

Man, that wasn't luck, that was a Gold Glove winner making a baseball savvy play. Pressley didn't look good, but Swanson had his back.
That's one of the wildest plays I've ever seen to end a game. And, he's as cool as a cucumber in the post game.

For those who didn't see it.

My gawd ...the Brewers absolutely suck.
NYY have 8 HRs in four innings today.

If Milwaukee is the Cub's top competitor for NL Central title, Cubs will win division by 15+ games!

Did you see who the Brewer starter was today? That's Yankee castoff Nestor Cortes. :)

I am not clear on the rules, but I think the Mets can still trade him, then he has to clear waivers. I can see a few teams looking at him. He seems like a guy who the White Sox could try out at basically no cost.
It’s a 7-day process total if a team wants it to be. Often, they’ll spend the first 4-5 days working trades and then the last 48 hrs for waivers if they’re actually trying to move a guy.

The more I look at it, it looks like that with the addition of Turner (expensive and no options), there's really no place for Canario on the active roster now unless the Cubs have a long-term injury or make a surprising trade. I would really like him to get a shot with the Cubs, but secondarily I want him to just get a shot, and even though his injuries made it difficult, the Cubs did him no favors getting him such little MLB experience as his option years expired....

Welp, Jed adds to his world record "cash considerations" returns on trades by sending Poteet to Baltimore.
Can't wait for ticket prices to start going down with all this $ the organization has....

Apparently ownership approves of his methods or he'd be out of a job?

As long as Wrigley remains the country’s largest and most popular outdoor bar, seats are filed with tourists and the adjacent hotel is booked, winning is only a nice little bonus if it can happen, not a prime consideration.

In one way it’s good that he didn’t have a spot. Alcantara has more upside and he SHOULD be the first man up if needed. My issue is Jed got nothing for Canario when internally it became clear he was the odd man out.

Fingers crossed that he’s at least getting IFA money.

Cubs just gave up a hit to a pitcher (Nelson) in his 1st AB of his career since they lost their DH spot earlier. Oof!

And his first name is Ryne!

Where the F is Merryweather? Is he dealing with a Jetlag injury or something like that?

Pearson, Thielbar and Morgan are all garbage. If our bullpen is going to suck at least bring up guys with high ceilings who have a future with the team like Little, Palencia and Neely. Blowing a four run lead in the eighth inning this early in the season just makes me want to puke.
