*****Official Hurricane Dorian thread*****

So much for Savannah being out of the mix. In-laws got the mandatory evacuation alert and have landed in my house. At the pace this storm is moving, they're going to live here for a month.

Love Traditions arrogance and irrational denial of what actual experts consider fact. Whatever, but c’mon you claim you haven’t promoted a political view is as dumb.
This is a non-political thread. Please take that shit elsewhere.

The occupant of that building needs to thank his lucky stars that his building didn't wash away.

Maybe DFSNole has an idea what kind of lateral force general house pilings can take, but I'd figure it was nothing on the order of what they handle vertically.
I wouldn't want to be on an island where stuff is being tossed in that storm surge surf for hours and hours.

Have you ever swam at a wave tossed beach?

It's way more force than standing on the beach on a windy day.

Water moves mountains.

Storm surge is not political, but it will knock a house off its foundation and wash it out to sea.
Thank you Tradition, spent weeks and money helping my brother and sister in law to recover from hurricane Michael. Also brought a group down from my church to help with recovery. Spoke with several trained, educated experts, all noted, global warming had made Michael stronger than what was historically predicted.

BULLSHIT.

The global warming "denier" thing has elevated this crapola to the status of a religion. If you dare question the official dogma, you're labeled with the "Scarlet D".... this is not a healthy thing for science or society.

Hey, according to @What Would Jesus Do?, your brother deserved it because Florida votes in a way that doesn’t please him.

Ocean temp has nothing to do with hurricane strength? You are kinda looking unscientific here. But, that is your point, it seems.

It's also completely normal to have high ocean temps this time of year.

Which is why it is normal to have powerful hurricanes this time of year.

By the way... you know what's not normal? No serious hurricane issues from 2006 to 2016. How does global warming science explain that?

This thing is just swirling in place.

So, did you and the FIL establish some signals like a necktie on the doorknob so you don’t walk into the den as he has the MIL in the jackhammer position?
Also, pic of MIL if warranted.

FYI, Daycare Donnie went golfing on the taxpayer’s dime again today.

Pretty sure there were "serious hurricane issues". Maybe not in your neck of the woods, but they existed.

There are too many variables to be able to just blanket answers that. The diameter, length, type (concrete or wood), depth they're driven, etc. will all factor in. I will say that 99% of the houses built are not engineered to withstand 185 mph winds. Especially sustained for hours.

I would think the incredible storm surge and water would be what really gets those houses. I'm amazed the one in the video is still standing.

Better record keeping. Trying to make it as easy for you as I can.

There have only been a couple, but if there were similar storms 200, 300, 800 or 1,000 years ago, then that would demonstrate that man-made global warming has nothing to do with it.

Def not warranted.
