*****Official Hurricane Dorian thread*****

Hell, it took the US 8 months to give aid to people in their own country after Michael. Florida was apparently a shithole place to both parties.
It's not that. It's that Florida voted for climate change deniers for both Senator and Governor. In 2018, for crying out loud! So they deserve whatever happens to them.

OK, not really. Because millions voted against the climate change deniers, so they don't deserve it. And the children don't. And those denied the right to vote don't. But the rest do.

Although Scott was an asshole climate change denier, he at least seemed competent when he actually had to play governor during the hurricane. His replacement can't even pull that off. Fortunately for Floridians, the storm seems ready to go easy on them. Because nothing about DeSantis suggests he's up to the task.

This doesn't have anything to do with fvcking climate change. The Spanish were able to defeat the French and lay claim to Florida because of a hurricane in 1565.

I have family in Florida who suggest that DeSantis seems competent in this area. And to be clear, they have been pleasantly surprised.

I've only seen him on TV as the storm approaches. He's looked way out of his depth, no pun intended. It's possible he's competent in other areas. After all, he probably stole the election, using the usual GOP election fraud tricks. Which I guess counts as competence - just not in a good way.

Well, that is a very close state regarding dem/rep voters, unlike my childhood when the south voted uniformly Dem. Just like nationally, the swing/independent vote is the key to winning.
George Wallace’s Indy run in 1968 coincided with Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” to begin the migration from Dem to Rep for many southern voters.
The changes ahead, in my estimation, will be the southern women finally stepping up, the working class again paying attention their pocketbook, and the well documented immigrants.
I really have to hope that the vestiges of racism and women voting as their men demand will lessen as the years tick away.

Turned on the Weather Channel to see the movement is now classified as stationary. Good for Florida, but terrible for the Bahamas.

Sorry DeSantis is a follower not a leader. The voters voted YES, on a proposition , DeSantis does not support the will of the people and their vote.

It is completely normal to have a hurricane buzzing around Florida somewhere this time of year.

Not a Cat 5, that grew to that level from a 4 faster than anything else in the Atlantic basin.

That's what "warmer oceans" do for you.

Believe me, he would not have been their choice. Simply passing along that he has seemed competent in some surprising ways.

Desantis has been a pleasant surprise. He’s done a lot of good things in his short time already. He’s much more of a moderate than he appeared to be while campaigning.

In other news, “Donald Trump has caused unnecessary confusion by saying Hurricane Dorian – now the joint most powerful storm to make landfall on record – was forecast to hit Alabama, when in fact the state is not among those experts believe is threatened.”
Thanks for clearing it up. There is very little coverage of the Hurricane, so, I am sure most people did not know it was impacting Florida and not Alabama.
