*****Official Iowa at Iowa State game thread*****

Iowa is not a tournament team.

They may improve by end of season and be as good as a tournament team, but they'll lose to many
games before that to get in.

Fran has got to get all his players interested in rebounding.

Some other poster mentioned the assistants. Honestly, I have no clue what the hell Speraw and Dillard do. Maybe they are good coaches in practice but during games they look so disinterested and just sit on their ass

Fran needs to start telling these guys to take it to the rim and go up strong. We dribble in and kick it out. Dribble in and kick it out. It isn’t getting open shots. We’ve got three guys on the court between the Murray’s and Pat, 4 including Rebraca, who are 6’8 plus. Make Iowa State make a play and risk fouling. Getting to the free throw line is our bread and butter and we aren’t even trying to make it happen

hopefully Keegan's ankle going to get better. The current version of him playing is still a good player, but not NBA player.
Not even very good. He has zero points, 2 rbs, and 1 assist. Brockington and Hunter each have 4 rbs. Their bigs are blocking out so their guards can rebound. Iowa's guards are not picking up the slack. Something has to change in the 2nd half or this won't end well.

Cyclones are completely outworking the Hawks. Iowa seems completely unraveled.

Haven’t seen them play afraid like this in a long time.

Time to play Josh a whole lot in the 2nd half. At least he won’t be intimidated. Hell, at this point throw in Ash and Laketa, too. They couldn’t be any worse.

Someone should tell Iowa brockington is a lefty. Keagan isn’t just missing they aren’t even close. Rebounding and loose balls it all comes down to attitude and hustle. You’d think Iowa minus Bohannon would show a little more fire tonight in a rivalry game.

It's amazing how good of defense you can play when allowed to bump and grab

If Iowa is 10 deep as Fran thinks, then that is exactly the man defense Iowa should be playing.

There is some home cooking, but ISU is clearly the better team so far.

The effort on rebounding and post defense is an embarrassment. It's not just about how tall you are -it's positioning and tenacity and find your man and put a body on them. Looks like the same effort as the last couple games.
Who is worse rebounding the ball, the men or the women? Both teams are awful!

outside of Perkins this team looks uninterested and flat. the lineup changes are pretty much bizarre. Fran does like his kids though.

Welp I'm sick of Fran ball. Defense and rebounding seem like foreign concepts to him.
Fran got 2 gifts in Weezie and Luka. Bohannon also. Now we are seeing what Frans teams are gonna look like when he doesn’t get handed 2 NBA players on a silver platter.

No B1G level PGs and no big men. Get used to it.

That team looked like they were defeated already walking off the court.

Two straight games looking like a junior high team against NBA all stars on the boards. Unless the Hawks can figure out how to be at least competitive on the boards this is going to be a looooonnnngggg season.

This is the problem. The best rebounders are relentless. Sure you need to get position but that is as much effort as coaching as well. You have to want the friggin ball.

He’s at least capable of dribbling people open. Nobody else brings that
No one is doing anything right now. Iowa State (and a few teams Iowa has played this year) make plays and shots even when they’re difficult. Iowa can’t do the basics or make open shots. It’s incredibly strange to have things go wrong as much as they have on both sides of the court. Not excusing the coaching, but when it has rained it’s poured at times this year.

It's a win to not be down by more right now. That half was putrid.

Defense: can't stop the drive, even in zone. Iowa St. cooled down significantly from 3 and it still didn't matter because of the dismal rebounding.

Offense: we can't be averaging anymore than one or two passes before we force a contested shot on the drive or just miss a three. We need to make them work harder on defense. Run more screens off ball. More dribble handoffs. Get the ball moving side to side. Our weakness is in the post. Getting manhandled and establishing nothing.

Better times ahead... starting with this half.

LThank God we're still playing zone.

It always works so well.

Makes a lot of sense to keep doing it every game.

Keep doing what works.
Every time Frans insufficient Lineups struggles, he has great idea to make these same guys play zone,
Shakes head at Frans tactical game skills….

Zero inside game. Joe T so out of control he's a liability. Keegan doing nothing. Conor getting minutes for some reason.
I’ve been trying to figure out since last year why Connor gets minutes. The same question pertains to Joe T playing over Ulis and JBo over Perkins.

Last season was Fran’s best chance to do something of consequence and his stubbornness in playing “his guys” and flat out refusal to stress defense and hold guys accountable ensured it was more of the same come March.

I would say I can’t believe this guy has lasted as long as he has at Iowa, but then I remember who the AD is.
