*****Official Iowa vs Maryland game thread*****

And he contributed nothing to the run. He was also in the first half when we gave up our double digit lead.
Chris isn’t smart enough to now this.
Playing our 3 best guards and or Sandfort isn't an option.

Connor calms every down. Makes good entry passes. He knows the offense. He points the way.
not sure if this is sarcasm

Connor is a situational player. Like he comes in to make those crucial in bounds passes to Jordan. But not the long stretches where his complete lack of offense is a huge net negative. Of course, he cannot get the ball back cuz he's a terrible free throw shooter.

I know I say it all the time, but Connor's defenders really are just free safeties that don't guard him, they just float around in his neighborhood clogging passing lanes. He can't beat anyone down court. He does give the team its only real tough guy, although Tony looks built for the job he seems kind of mellow.

Connor had a turnover tonight and complained to the ref giving up a layup but he still plays. Unreal
Connor giving up pick sixes, off rebounds while pproviding empty minutes, and still playing is always Going to happen.
It’s best just to get used to it…

Yep.

Fran is going to put a hard cap on this teams potential due to his emotional attachment to certain players.

Iowas going to have to rely on Keegan having great games every night instead of being the well rounded team they could be.

Ulis did more than Jbo, Connor or Patrick.
I'll give you the McCs but Jordan did ice the game. There is no reason to assume any other player on the team is that clutch, probably because Jordan is the best free throw shooter in school history.

I would be pulling hair out if I hadn't freshly shaved today. Minimal trapping and pressing, no real attempt to force an up tempo game and we get pounded on the boards by some no name guys that have only played 10 games together. That Wahab character never came out of the lane on either end.

Jbo came in for Perkins and proceeded to get worked on defense for the remainder of the game.

Fouled a 3pt shooter.

Gave the ball back to Connor instead of keeping it to get fouled resulting in a missed freethrow. Then missed a freethrow of his own.

Iowa won inspite of him.

Ulis playing defense alone accomplished more positives.

Last post on the topic (because I am actually happy that we got the win and thought that a lot of players had really encouraging games tonight - Keegan, Toussaint, Rebraca, Perkins in the second half, Ulis played well in the second half)

Connor actually was partially responsible for the comeback tonight (despite me saying otherwise earlier in the game thread) in the second half. Our defense/zone was substantially better with him on the floor despite how he limits the offense. What really got under my skin was bringing Bohannon back in at (was it the under 8?) timeout with a ton of time left in the second half when he hadn’t brought anything offensively and was letting Fatts Russell and Co into the lane at will and fouling on a three, then Fran claiming that the lineup decision was made for defensive purposes. I totally understand the rationale of having Jordan in late for free throw purposes, but then why not bring Toussaint back in for minutes 8-2, then bring in Jordan for Ulis to close it out from the line? And then having Bohannon and Connor be the two to try to bring the ball up court when neither have the ability to create separation AND Connor is a 60% free throw shooter. Should’ve Ulis/Toussaint bringing it up alongside Jordan.

Not worth dwelling over anymore I guess, but I wish Fran would trust his younger guys. For that matter, Toussaint isn’t even young. He’s a junior PG with a full season of starting under his belt, who could be top 3 or 4 PG in the league… but not while he’s on a leash

Connor did play good on defense.

But not good enough to warrant having him on the floor against a team thats playing zone.

I agree on JBO, that was actually worse than playing Connor. If Fran actually claims it was for defense that's either a bold faced lie or hes insane.

Should have been a travel before the foul.
