**** Official Israel War thread****

The one thing I will share with my North American friends and I can share this, since I have lived that neck of the woods is that most Arabs don't want Palestinians. That includes the Jordanians, Egyptians, Levant Areas, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar. They are happy to fund Hamas etc when it is busy killing jews but otherwise they don't want trouble afoot in their mcmansion land.

In Dubai, where I lived, Palestinians were treated like dirt. Even worse than Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi laborers. White people and arab first, then professional Indian people, then rest of the people and last, Palestinians.

So sadly for Palestinians, there is honestly no place to go. That is as much part of this problem as is the tension between Muslims and Jews. Muslims have let down their brothers and sisters, as much as the civilized world.

My fear is Israel is going to go complete scorched Earth. They are going to want 10 lbs of flesh for every one taken and this will start to spiral.
I suspect the ratio will be much higher than 10:1. But as I said yesterday, the reality is that nothing is going to stop that from happening. Look no further than the liberalization of targeting criteria as applied to the university (training ground for Hamas engineers and production site for weapons). So you're better off just saving your breath and planning for what happens when they get to a number where the consensus will be that it's probably enough.

It’s almost like peace plans for a two separate states have been proposed.

Re: Hamas being "elected"

I do want to note something else here, which is that Hamas does not represent all Palestinians. What has happened is between Hamas and Israel, but Hamas is only part of the picture when it comes to representation of the people who are within Gaza, right?

It is, and they like to say that they are an elected government, which is narrowly true, but again, the last election, the last parliamentary election, was in 2006. The average person in Gaza is 18 years old. The median person is 18 years old, which means the last time there was a Palestinian election, most people in Gaza weren’t even born. So they literally have had no opportunity to choose their leadership. I’ve been going to Gaza for more than a decade now, and one thing that I find increasingly when I go is: There’s a level of popular anger and popular resentment aimed at Hamas. Of course, there’s anger towards Israel, there’s anger towards Egypt, both of which maintain a blockade on Gaza, but the group has lost a lot of popular support. It was elected in 2006, partly as a protest vote against Fatah, which is the nationalist party that controls the West Bank. It’s an incredibly corrupt party. People opted for Hamas in 2006 not necessarily because they agreed with the group’s ideology but because they thought it was a cleaner alternative.

It has turned out not to be that. Most people in Gaza think that Hamas is equally corrupt, and they think that it has done an atrocious job running the territory over the past 16 years, but they have no opportunity to change their leaders, and so they’re stuck with this unpopular, ineffective government.

Can confirm. Throw in UAE/SA/Bahrain and Kuwait.

What if just ends up with Hamas flushed and spiraling down the drain?
If Israel goes for the Indian War method to resolve the problem, would you want the U.S. to condemn, or just ignore?

So the strong words from the Western leaders isn’t working?

What’s plan B?
I think it was pretty clear when Biden said don’t yesterday….they have opened up a second front….its time for the tomahawks to fly….in my opinion if we don’t what good is our word?

That’s what I’m saying, what is plan B? The line in the sand was crossed within 24 hours haha.

How involved will the US and other western nations be involved now?

Sadly the Tomahawks are worth more than anything we can aim them at in Lebanon.

Should we send the Marines back to Lebanon? 40 years ago we left…

Why wouldn't they?

What is the appropriate, measured response to decapitated babies and children burnt alive?

I don't have an answer and think they absolutely need a revenge. This is also why I don't want to be President because I don't want to be the person that says "Yes, these scales have balanced." Because they never will.

Hamas is reported to be about 30k, Gaza has a population about 2M. Scorched Earth may kill Hamas, but will absolutely kill innocents. Including babies and children.

I would suggest a more precise, intelligence supported surgical approach, but.... 1) the window for a slow patient approach has already closed and 2) I've never had a population that I disliked so much that if innocent people died I would shrug and go "meh, lie with dogs...."
