****Official Meltdown Thread****

Ive taken this approach when it comes to hawkeye football and basketball:

it doesn’t surprise me when they lose, regardless of opponenent

it doesnt surprise me when they win, regardless of opponent.

that has kept me from a lot of disappointment as a hawkeye fan. I watch the games and move on when its over

I'm just glad we can all actually agree on something for once. I don't think anyone would admit that this season isn't a huge disappointment so far.

It is also what makes it fun. Every game is a mystery.

I have not looked up the definition of apathy recently but isn't it this, like verbatim?

Tough loss. I advise your fans to take a deep breath and remember the lickliter days. It can always be much worse 🤷🏽‍♂️

I get where your coming from but this is the exact thinking that keeps programs in the mediocre level. "Yes we could be 6-13 and averaging 54 points a game so we should just love starting the season off ranked in the top 3 and then fade down the stretch and finish at 10-8 in conference and maybe win that 7-10 matchup. in the tourney. Fran is out guy forever". No offense but EFFF that, he needs to go, nothing has changed and there are no signs of it happening.

probably
I still get excited to watch the games and am pleased when they win. about 10-15 years ago i would let football losses bum me out all weekend. I dont allow my mood to be dictated by results of a game that i cant control

Iowa’s ball movement has been embarrassingly stagnant during this down stretch. There is no reason that a team which relies on passing to generate open looks and lacks the athleticism to get open looks one on one should finish the game with 5 assists.

Fran’s two-foul bench rule in the first half might have lost Iowa the game today. I’m not even mad, just feel kind of defeated and disappointed

I thought this team might be very good in spite of Fran.

Knew how to close out games and was money during crunch time. Now, their opponents do that to them regularly.

Does someone remember when Garza came out and said this team would never take game for granted (or something along those lines)?

Since then are hawks like 1-3 or 1-4?

Totally get it. This was the first year like that for me for football. Idk if it was covid or the wind going out of the sails early but I just found I could do other stuff with my time and have the game in the background than plan my whole day around a 230 kickoff. The ROI with time spent on other things cannot be ignored and I'm not missing anything special. That being said, I have found myself tuning into wresting last year and this.

Also, can we stop the walk the ball up the court to set up our crappy half court offense? It doesn't work out well for us.

If we tried to push it, we’d have at least 4 more TOs per game. This team is not built for pushing it in transition.

You're wrong here. Bohannon(and thus our offense) is much more effective when he pushes the ball into the offensive half.

They said this season would be special! Little did we know it would be special ed... We are taking the short bus to games.

Assistant coach shuffle in the offseason? I honestly have no issue with any of them in particular, but if this season continues on the current trajectory, which looks likely, someone's gotta be a scapegoat for the failures to play any defense or make any in game adjustments when things go south.

Fran is what he is

This season will all come down to what they do in the tournament, no sweet 16 and it’s a failure
Right now, it’s looking like Iowa won’t even MAKE the tournament. How many more wins do they need? Two? ‘Cause unless this team stops feeling sorry for themselves and put a chip on their shoulder, they are finished.

Their confidence is shot. Choking another one away like this has destroyed what little they had left.

Nothing will be done. He had the chance and the suggestion to go with a defensive specialist when he brought in a new assistant last year. He ignored it. He needs to be gone.

I don't disagree that we should be looking for a new HC, but I think we all know Barta is going to do a dam thing. Just curious how warm his seat actually is and at what point he doesn't have a choice, but to make some adjustments.
