Fran should have the bench running laps after that finish. Guess they need more experience or it's going to be a tough year next year.

I think Baer and Wagner played very well..Uhl did not have good game. CW blew a chance to try to earn more PT. Fleming, you know he won't turn down a shot.

Well the scrubs needed some game time, whether they did well with it or not. I was guessing that if the margin got down to 10, the starters would have been back in but I'm not sure about that.

No one is denying the fact he will improve, but he is a long ways away from being the main point guard leading this team. You do not have to be a basketball genius to see that.

Enjoy this year boys, next year might be hard to watch with our pg situation.
All based off of a 20 point blowout. Come on man! I've said this over and over on here it's going to be hard to judge how guys are going to play next because they aren't playing meaningful minutes. Williams, Ellingson, Fleming and even Wagner you can't judge because they just aren't playing enough this year. Their role players and their roles aren't that big. That will change next year but nobody really knows what it's going to look like.

He does have a long way to go. However, I am not ready to write off next years Iowa team. Not with peter leading this team. Add in an improving Wagner a normally solid uhl, hard fighting Baer and potential stud in Tyler cook, and no, not willing to say we have no chance.

See what? What have you seen? How minutes has the guy played this year? He goes games without playing. Do you think maybe that has a factor into is play? Not seeing any game action. That won't be an issue next year for him. In fact he'll probably in all likely hood get better as the season goes on next year.

I'm sorry, but you really can't know that from what little we have seen of him this year. People said the same thing about freshman Devyn Marble.

Take your Hawkeye glasses off guys, I hope he leads this team like a champ next year but anyone that has seen him on the court this year and is not a little worried about our pg play next year is quite the optimist. Don't just blame it on small sample size, the reason he has played so little time is obviously because he is just not ready yet. He needs to improve leaps and bounds by next year for the Hawks to be successful. I am not saying he won't step it up, just saying I am a little worried.

CW was totally lost today. Brady played pretty well, except for terrible shooting. Brady played some solid D and had a really nice assist. Our front court depth is small but mighty. Dom U is getting better and better. If he grows as much over the season next year the Hawks will have another player in line for a 1st team All B!G senior season. \

Watching Wiley beat his chest against our 4 freshmen was pretty fun.

Your basing the 2nd sentence based on what you've seen this year. The obvious reason he's not playing is there is no need. 2 senior pg's and the sg minutes all accounted for. Fran's got his rotation and Williams isn't a part of it. Nothing wrong with that. No reason to make assumptions that he's not ready. The only real assumption I'd make is at this point he's not better then Gesell and Clemmons. Fran may feel that he's learning plenty just going up against those two in practice every day.

Frankly, if I am a Northwestern fan, I'm saying: We got hosed by the refs. Not for the foul shot differential, the game would have been ours.
Not saying they were hosed or would have won. But that's what I say as a Kitty fan.

Yea Fran thinks his one and only future point guard for next year is gaining plenty of experience in practice and doesn't give him any PT in games for this reason. Come on, if he was ready, he would be getting 10 mins a game, believe it. Yes he has 2 seniors manning the point this year but if CW was ready to play quality minutes this year, Fran would find him 10 mins to get him experience for next year. Brady has been getting some decent minutes lately though so who knows, maybe Fran is thinking maybe he plays the point more next year then anyone knows.

He's going to get plenty experience next year. No reason to play him 10 minutes a game to lose a game here and there because of it. He completely trusts Gesell and Clemmons at the point so why play anyone else? For next year? I'm guessing he's coaching for this year only. That seems to be how these coaches think. Us fans think about next year. He's coaching for a Big Ten title right now. That is what is on Fran's mind. Not getting someone experience for next year. After the MSU game Fran said he needed to find more time for Williams and Wagner. Why hasn't that happened? Is it because those two aren't ready? No it's because he trusts Clemmons, Gesell, Uhl and Woodbury more then Wagner and Williams. He feels there better options at this point.

Yeah, 27 to 11 is huge differential. The play Lindsey got T'ed on looked like a clean block though. I wouldn't say they would have won the game if Whistle had been kinder--they got hot vs the backups, but I guess a Kitty fan my say that.

Fran has a history of very short leashes with young players. I think this slows down development as these players are constantly wondering what mistake is going to get them yanked. He has been doing this to Williams consistently. Someone mentioned Wagner not being ready yet, but if you watched today, Wagner and Uthoff were reason that Iowa had halftime lead. Wagner first half minutes were quite impressive IMO.

Hulu did not look good today. He is forcing things on offense and his FT shooting may be worse than Gesellschaft at this point. He flat out pushed his FT shots, instead of shooting.

I haven't looked at stats for today but know Woody had a few rebounds early, but no focus on rest of game

Today was the first time in the B10 season we had a game where Fran could give meaningful minutes to scrubs who might not be quite ready for prime time. Uhl is getting close to starter minutes, Baer and Wagner tend to get 10 or more because they are ready to go. The rest need some seasoning. Fran let a fair amount of a big lead go today to let Williams and Fleming get some game time and presumably improve their skills. Pretty sure they will get more time as opportunity presents. As kzoo says, Fran has to play for this year and trust that the young guys will pick it up over the summer. Would you all be happier if Fran sacrificed a couple of games to losses to get more time for his subs? I DON'T THINK SO!

You can forgive a lot, but there were signs of a lack of effort from guys who should be begging for minutes. There's no reason not to be all out when you finally see the floor.

Some of CW minutes were with Sapp on the floor and has been pointed out Brady spent some time functioning in the point role.

wow subs have takena 30 point lead down to 14..come on subs just cause NW has their starters in beat their rears!

May not have seen it on TV, but Fran really did some a$$ chewing on the subs during the time out. They needed it as you cannot let them get lazy with a lead. He wanted them to go to the hoop and they were playing way too conservative.

Why would CW ever play in a competitive game. Whose minutes will he take, AC Mike or PJ? Those guys should almost never sit. CW looks way behind Brady, in pretty much ever facet of the game.

First, worrying about next year means you have prescription grade anxiety. Hell, I have prescription grade anxiety and even I'm not stressing over 2017 yet.

Second, why should we assume that some guys aren't going to get a lot better? This staff has shown a decided ability to coach up kids. The only thing we know about next year is the team will look a lot different. We've been talking about Woody, Mike and even AC since before they were on campus. They were going to be our turn around class and they have been. Now our underclassmen don't get a ton of minutes because they're playing behind guys that have started for multiple seasons. There are many very reasonable optimistic scenarios for next season that don't rely on pure hope.
