*****Official Penn State @ IOWA Game Thread*****

Did the announcer just say Wagner ran a 9.98 split in the 4x100? If true he needs to play football. That is pretty impressive for a man his size.

That's what he said and it's been mentioned before but there's no way in hell that it happened.

LOL at Fleming - takes it to the rack, lands on the floor, and decides to just hang out in the backcourt ala Kareem.

Lots of ragged play but a win is a win. Seemed like a lot of one-on-one selfish play tonight. Part of that is PSU mucks up the play.

Dude seems to have a long ways to go. These last two end of game lineups give me the shivers thinking about next year. I'll just enjoy this season!

Got the freshmen a lot of quality time tonight. It looks like Brady has lost all confidence in his shot. Wags is a Greg Bruner kind of player. We are going to have a lot of fun with him the next three years. Dom, Wags and Peter are a nice front line. If we could develop some quality guard play we keep Peter in the spot he's milking this year. CW and Andrew just look really far behind the other guys. Although Brady and the Baer have a year of college ball that obviously has given them an advantage.

Wags and the Baer bring a high level of energy to the floor. This was the worst team in the conference but its nice to see how our freshmen could play with their starters.

You got that right, next year will be a long year unless Jok has a Uthoff type of year, Cook plays like the B1G freshmen of the year, Moss really steps up like some project he's capable of, and Fran gets a 5th year transfer or stud JUCO at PG. I'm just not feeling it with Williams so far but it's early and he did have a nice little step back jumper tonight. Feeling good about Wagner, Uhl (hopefully he applies himself more on the defensive end), and Baer.

That's not exactly the lineup that will be on the floor next year. No Jok and at times no Uhl , Baer or Wagner depending on how deep they went in the game. You also have to factor in Cook, Moss, Hutton, Kreiner, Pemsel, Bohannen and maybe Dale Jones if healthy. Lots of youth and inexperience for sure but lots of length and athleticism too. Not sure Fleming is going to stay as he does have a ways to go.

Mac mccausland on radio on Monday that he expects Fran to go find a point guard as he doesn't think Williams is the guy. Given way Fran is ignoring giving Williams any court time, maybe there is something there. Fran looked down his bench tonight when he was up 25 with 8 minutes to go and did nothing. None of us see practice, but it is becoming very clear that Fran has no confidence in Williams. Elingson does nothing in games, but still gets too much time so he must be a great practice player. The josh oglesby syndrome I guess

Not a very energetic crowd once again tonight- on tv we just don't look like fans following one of the top teams in the country at the moment even if playing a bad Penn State team. A friend not a Hawk fan wrote and said that Iowa fans seem like they don't know if this is a dream or a dream team which I found a good observation. I grow more tired of watching games from Carver all the time- don't care much for the atmosphere nor the seeming lack of passion from our fans. Have found this team just a joy to watch play in what hasn't really seemed a very exciting season.

That would be an interesting development. Although I'll believe it when I see it.

I truly hope this is true as Williams doesn't seem to be the answer. Losing confidence in Ellingson by the game too.

Usual qualifier that we don't see all of the dynamics and practices but you have to be very worried about PG and backup SG next year although I really think Moss is way overlooked by most casual IA fans at this point.

How quickly we forget how well Ellingson played just a couple games games ago against Michigan. Brady IMO looks like a freshman getting his first real action a big step up in competition. He has had some good moments and right now doesn't look very confident shooting the ball which everybody focuses on. Watch Ellingson other than shooting the ball and he shows some pretty good instincts and also passes the ball well- an asset that may really help us next season when we will have real inexperience in the backcourt.

Tried that already last year with Dickerson, we all know how that ended. Not sure he will have any better options out there this offseason? Then you still have the scholarship question, techically, he doesnt even have one to give out to a potential PG. I do agree though that he needs to do something because going into next season with Williams and Bohanon is scary at best. Perhaps, Fran might just figure next season is gonna be pretty bad but just plans to go foward from there. His kid will probably be the PG the year after that.

Unfortunately that is a distinct possibility. It's unlikely Conner will come in from day one and be highly effective either. Could be a couple of tough years.

Sorry, but I think that is nuts. Williams looks the part, Bohanon will back up and Conner will take over in another year anyway. Williams can do what Gesell is doing this year. We don't need 15 points per game, we need a distributor. Any scholarship that opens up in all likelihood goes to Baer, much deserved.

Baer knew what he was signing up for walking on. There's no guarantee of a scholarship. If Mccaffrey can go get a top juco PG or transfer that will bridge the gap, he should do that.

He's tried to find PGs for four years and hasn't gotten anywhere, also considering he has no scholarships.

JoBo will not be the answer. He is a shooter. With Fran's offense, the PG is not expected to be a scorer. I know that he moved Marble to the PG and expected scoring but the supporting cast was much different on that team. As been discussed many times, Woody's defense and rebounding will be greatly missed next year, but I much more concerned about the PG situation. Look at most of the top teams in the country and they have a PG (generally experienced too) but they control the game. I am thinking about teams like ISU, Oklahoma, Maryland, NC (most of the time), Kansas, Providence and even Indiana. Most of MSU problems are figuring out Valentine's role. Bottom line, Gesell will be greatly missed next year too, despite his shooting and his tendency to drive in the lane too often and struggle to finish.

I think Williams will be just fine. I am surprised (kind of) that so many would write him off after watching mop up time. He will be a good all around player by his Jr year and won't have to be a scorer next year.

Gotta agree with HMark above. Brady has actually been surprisingly tight on defense and, like Baer, finds himself in the right place at the right time too often to be mere coincidence and luck, He does look afraid to shoot, which is death for a shooter.

As for playing time, whose should be taken by CW, Brady or Andrew: Mikey, AC or Peter? Why would those guys ever sit in a competitive game?

All that we know is that the freshmen guards need work.

There are very few very good pgs that don't shoot s lot. Bohannon can score which is fine. There are different ways to play pg. Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul play pg differently but equally as effective. I like having a pg that can really shoot it. Like Pangos and trice who both lot Iowa up.

Hansenhawk you nailed it about juco pgs. Steve Francis ain't in junior college in 2016. Let's see what happens next year. Iowa next year will probably be like Ohio state and Wisconsin are this year. Hopefully bohannon works and Connor mccaffery will be really good.
