*****Official PSU @ Iowa Game Thread*****

One thing I'm definitely not going to miss after this season is watching Bohannon pounding the ball into the court 40 feet from the basket while the shot clock goes under 10 when Iowa is nursing a tenuous lead.

Our end of game milking the clock offense leaves a lot to be desired. That’s always been an issue regardless of who is running the point.

If it means a carry over to the next two games - Defense, Defense, Defense - then I'll accept this closer than maybe should have been game.

PSU just plays a frantic and hectic style. Iowa didn't handle it well in the first half, after their 13-4 start, but they adjusted and turned the worm on the Lions.

Don't mind it was relatively tight game. The close out of the game was poorly managed. JBO should not be the guy with the ball at end of shot clock. They needed to run plays for Fredrick, Weezy, of Garza earlier in shot clock.
This is same type of lead they blew at Minnesota...difference is Minnesota made shots and PSU was bricking.

Yeah used to do the same thing with Gesell. He’d drive into the lane and toss up an awful layup attempt as time expired. Gotta keep running the offense in a single digit difference game until around the minute mark. 3 minutes is way too much time to go into a shell

That is all on Fran. He's got to get them looking to shoot with more time on shot clock. Fran has never recruited guys that were good with the ball at end of the clock that could get their own shots. How many time Devyn Marble and Gesell flamed out with the ball trying to run out the clock...Having Jbo with ball in his hands shooting fade away 3pt shots with 1 second on shot clock is not a good strategy.

That's because we shouldn't do it. At least we shouldn't do it with a six point lead with a minute and a half to play. That's just dumb. I would much rather put two points on the board than take 25 seconds off the clock then vomit up a prayer as the shot clock expires.

Completely agree. We weren’t up by nearly enough to stop running our normal stuff. Up 15 with 2 left? Fine.

Winning an ugly game is not necessarily a bad thing. I remember many times during Fran’s tenure where we would usually lose these games.

If the Hawks are going to have a bad game, it’s best to have it against an opponent that you can still beat.

A win is a win. Move on to the next one.

Winning 3/4 to finish would be wonderful. We will be small dogs on the road, a huge favorite against NE, then 6-7 against WI. After that, well, the BTT hasn’t exactly been Fran’s best work. It would be great to do enough to be on the 3 line at the very worst.

J Bo likes the stage. He typically runs it down with the ball in his hand so he takes the big shot. We ‘be got some shooters just run our stuff and look for Luka.

It would seem a better strategy (and I’m guessing what most other teams do based on games I’ve watched) is to run your offense but be more picky with your shot selection. If you get a great look that’s an easy bucket you take it. If not keep running the offense and if you have to take a wild shot at the end, so be it.

But to have your planned strategy to have one guy dribble out the clock and then huck up a wild shot...idk. Got to come up with something better come tourney time.

If Fran didn't want it that way he wouldn't do it.

Not yet. He's the greatest scorer in Iowa history. The teams he's played on have accomplished very little. Not his fault.

I think he's the best true 5 in Iowa history.

1 - BJ
2 - Lester
3 - Marble
4 - Stokes
5 - Garza

Absolutely. Run the offense, but only take the shot if it's wide open. Bohannon dribbling in the corner makes it too easy on the defense. It gives them a chance to catch their breath and get into better position for that desperation puke we put up as the shot clock expires.
