Ohio State allowing 1.83 yds/rush attempt (#3 Nationally). Do we have a Pass Offense that will work when needed?

KJ says challenge accepted.

I hope it remains Jazz getting any backup carries.
Actually this is a challenge for our entire offense. They go out there and get 5 yards per carry against a team that is only allowing one point eight and you better believe it is going to open some eyeballs. Projections for the team will sky rocket as will draft stock in a whole bunch of guys.

agree.
last time iowa was in this situation (though arguably expectations are lesser this time since we already dropped one), things didn't go well.
Flashback: "Ohio State, No. 3 in the New York Times computer ranking and No. 7 in the Associated Press poll, held Banks to 84 yards on 22 carries, 125 yards beneath his average."

Ah yes, the “let’s not block Andy Katzenmoyer” game.

too soon. ;)

#7 Ohio State (5-0) beat #11 Iowa (4-1) 23-7. Iowa would go 3-4 the rest of the way to finish a disappointing 7-5 on the season.

For the season (11 games), Tavian rushed for 1,639 yards on 246 attempts (6.7 yds/attempt) and 17 TDs.

In this game vs tOSU:

Iowa Passing: 19-38 for 202 yards and 1 TD.

Iowa Rushing: 35 times for 106 yards (3.0 yds/attempt).

Iowa had 3 turnovers (lost 2 fumbles and had 1 INT). OSU had 1 turnover.

Iowa had the ball for over half the game (31:19).

We ran the ball 45 times tonight for 272 yards and 4 TDs.

OSU, however, will try to stop the run & make us beat them with the pass.

Cade tonight:

11/19 (58%)

62 yards

3.3 yard/attempt

0 TDs

0 INTs
Very first play of the game needs to be an all-out sell the run into a PA deep bomb to Wetjen.

You're welcome.

I just saw a clip online of an interview with Aaron Rodgers and he talked about his recruiting in high school. He tried like hell to get a Big Ten school to offer him. He mentioned specifically Wisconsin, Illinois and Purdue. Said he still had Purdue's rejection letter that wished him well in pursuit of his future football aspirations. Seems like he sent stuff to Wisconsin like once a week or something like that. Ron Turner was coach at Illinois and his nephew was a coach for Rodgers' high school team, but he couldn't get Turner to offer him.

The direct link to the 39 minute Kaleb Johnson & Iowa/Ohio State discussion is at the end of this post.

Yeah, not buying that. Yeah, Ohio State hasn't played a murderer's row of opponents, but anyone that thinks OSU's been lulled to sleep by crap competition is in for a rude awakening.

Iowa's only chance is to do to OSU, what Michigan did to USC. Suffocate them on defense, and pound the ball on offense. Unfortunately for Iowa, I suspect OSU is a little bit better at stopping the run than USC is, and have even more firepower on offense. And I also suspect Iowa isn't going to own the turnover margin, and when they do get a stop or turnover, they won't always capitalize (drives that should end in TDs end up in FG tries, and drives that might end in a FG try end up as punts). It's probably not going to be a particurly good day at the office; while I doubt OSU will be able to name its score, it will still be a convincing win. Something to the tune of 34-13.
How confident are you in Will Howard?

Maybe see how he performs in East Lansing Saturday night primetime.

Howard is 1-3 vs a legit defense in Iowa State. Only win was 10-9.

Just highlighting his body of work.

34-13 is a nonsense prediction.

28-24 max.

JMO.

Cheers!

I thought that was what Minnesota tried to do with 8 men fronts. TE-U has an opportunity to shock the world 😳

Punchers opportunity 🏈

peace ✌️

Ohio St. has faced the 128th (Akron), 101st (Western Mich), and 91st (Marshall) ranked total offenses so far. Those teams are also ranked 114th, 121st, and 87th respectively for total defense as well.
I hope they completely house Mich. St. and come in with all kinds of confidence. Then we'll see.

Howard is a guy with great legs, and has never been known for his arm. That works well in the Big XII. This is different and he hasn't seen a B1G defense yet.

I'll be the first to congratulate him for being 2-0 against the MAC and 1-0 against the Sun Belt. For a bit.

Will be a great watch tonight in East Lansing. Two of our next three opponents in OSU and MSU with Washington sandwiched..

There's a lot of film (33% of the season) out there. Plenty to work with.

I'm not predicting anything other than I think OSU with this QB is a good matchup for Iowa.

JMO.

Cheers!

Will Howard saw his first B1G defense yesterday in OSU's 38-7 rout at Michigan State.

And now both the Ohio State & IOWA starting QBs have 4 games under their belt. In last night's game, Will Howard was 21-31 (68%) for 244 yds, 2 TD and 1 INT. He had 7.9 yds/attempt.

Thru 4 games (Ohio State 4-0; Iowa 3-1):

Will Howard: 72-105 (69%) for 1,039 yds, 8 TDs & 2 INT. He's averaging 9.9 yds/attempt.

Cade:...............64-102 (63%) for 588 yds, 3 TDs & 2 INT. He's averaging 5.8 yds/attempt.

Some of you guys are just unreal. Howard is a good QB who is also playing with incredible skill players that he didn’t have at K St. And not sure why some of you thought Sparty was going to give them a game. They were a 24 pt dog last night. They’re terrible. Some of you need to watch other conferences once in awhile.

Iowa can not play much Man vs those OSU WRs, They need to stop the run with their front 6/7 and make OSU take small bites and see if different zone looks can make Howard make some mistakes. Iowa will need to bust several runs and try to run several back shoulder jump ball throws to RVZ to try to take advantage of His size against press man when he has single coverage to force a safety back and over to give help over the top which will help the running game . Lots of Lachey vs LB and play action , OSU over pursued a ton against waggles and boots and there were plays there for MSU but they were allergic to the football and fumbled the game away . Lots of points left on that field due to fumbles and bad decisions by that young QB . Iowa will have to break tendencies on offense and play near perfect on defense and force some OSU mistakes to win this game, if the refs allow it. See Minnesota onside kick . B1G protects it's golden gooses.

MSU averaged 10 ypp deep into the second quarter with a 19 year old QB and had 3 turnovers in the red zone in the first half. OSUs LBs are below average in pass coverage, as they have been through all four games. Will Howard continues to telegraph his passes, like he did in the Big XII.

The score was 38-7. At East Lansing. It was never a close game.

And we have [well below] average pass-catchers, so, at best it evens out.

Full disclosure, I hope your optimism comes to fruition. I’d love to see a good game in Columbus.

Go Tim Lester.

No.

Worse though is I don't think our corners, as a group, are going to be able to keep up with their receivers.
