Only Idiots cheering Bartas departure.

this came from Dean Oliver who played with him for years as for him leaving that was his father that wanted him to leave in fact his father wanted him to go straight to the Pro's out of HS.

it was his father that pushed him to leave for the NBA. even Dean's father confirmed that, everything that happened with Ricky was pushed by Ricky's dad period.
I don't know who pushed what, as I got it second hand just like you did. Just saying from the conversations he had at my Dads house, (NO I wasn't there) he was not coming back to Iowa.

So much wrong in this post. First off davis wasn’t staying for his sophomore year or strongly considered staying. He was gone before bowlsby made his decision on Dr Tom. Let alone would’ve been a jr for the 99-00’ season. The whole Koch RS is purely a BS made up speculation you are pulling out of no where. He was going to a starter and was drafted by the Knicks in the 2nd rd that year. Plus he was tight with group of seniors who were all good friend especially Kent and Jason bauer his roommates. Plus with guys like jaacks, luehersman and settles. He wasn’t taking a red shirt after playing 3 years to stay for a 5th year. Sam okey came in fully aware of Davis situation and wanted to play right away no matter if he was coaching another year or not to start his pro career.

Only 1 reasonably effected was range who went to CC with concerns with grades. He played 1 year before quitting the game all together with a young kid he had fathered too factored in. So end of the day your dream team lineup for 99-00’ is purely a pipe dream that was never going to happen even if dr Tom stayed.
Thank you for this post. Okey would of had to redshirt in 98-99 to play in 99-00. He didn't want to do that. Davis was told by Bowlsby not to recruit Range because his academics were bad. He wasn't going to last. Koch was a SR in 98-99. He wasn't coming back. But he did leave Antonio Ramos and Marcelo Gomes. The exact opposite of what Davis inherited.

IIRC, Davis got some really good recruits toward the end of his Iowa tenure. Dean Oliver, Ricky Davis, and Joey Range were all ranked pretty high (again IIRC).

Unfortunately, some fans wouldn’t forgive him for missing out on LaFrentz.
his recruiting improved after Rawling left for shockingly the IVY League which he wanted Iowa tp emulate with his academic requirements.

its amazing what happens when the academic are set as high as they were. don't see anybody from the IVY Schools competing for the NCAA BB or FB Championships. have you?

how often do you see NW Competing for the BTT Championships because of their high academic standards.

back then the talent level in Iowa wasn't that high. yeah so Dr. Tom got royally f***ed by both Bowlesby and Rawlings, also when Rawlings was hired he stated that Iowa was not going to be a farm club for FB or BB.

Also hired Steve and rather than hire Stoops. he had a chance to hire Stoops he told Stoops to wait because he had other coaches to interview. Oklahoma didn't screw around offered on the spot, and we saw how that turned out. but BOOBY wanted Hire Terry Allen the HC OF UNI at that time. good thing the Major boostes put their foot down on that Idea,

booby boy wanted nothing but boot lickers under him. the hire of Ferentz blew up in his face as Kirk was not boot licker, stevie boy turned into a major failure.

think about that before you continue to rag on Barta, bobby boy was the worst AD to ever work at Iowa.

Barta has fixed every that booby boy screwed up.

you know this how? just think if Dr. Tom had reached the Elite 8 booby boy would have been on the Hot Seat by the media. for forcing out a coach that just went to the Elite 8 with his recruits. had he won that game booby would have been give a ultimatum of either resign Dr. Tom or your fired.

Terry Allen was the HC at Kansas when Bowlsby interviewed him.

Who is Steve? Are you confusing bball with FB again?

Take your meds. Go to bed.

Let's see, has the winningest fball coach in Iowa history, a bball coach who goes to the tourney yr in and out and competes for BIG titles, a baseball program on the rise competing at the top of the BIG, women's bball coach in the Natty, wrestling in the top 3, softball on the rise...should I continue proving hiw idiotic it is....?? Yall a bunch of spoiled children, can't wait until shit falls apart when KF leaves and yall go back to .500 up and down Iowa sports.

Barta is that you?

you prove it. you are the biggest liar about what you just posted. since I was close friends with Dr. Tom what you posted is a complete lie.

but thanks for telling me the name that I couldn't remember.
I also knew Dean Olivers father thru the AAU circuit my oldest son was good friends with Dean.

there is a lot that you know nothing about. just like with Thompson bowlsbys claims when he declared inelegible to continue playing in that NCAA Tourney.

the 1st excuse was academically ineligible, when asked why did he wait till the Tourney to ckaim he was ineligable. then he came up with the BS excuse that he was skipping classes, when if he was at the NCAAT when these so called classes were being missed.

if that was the cases why didn't he declare the whole team unqualified to even play.

then were the 2 that were academically ineligible at Iowa but were accepted in at Oral Robert who at that time had a higher acceptance standard. Bowlbey cut Dr. Tom's throat at every improvement in recruiting.
No one. Absolutely no one believes you were “close” friends with dr Tom. You probably met and shook his hands a few times and somehow equate that to being his best buddy in your own mind. but with your fictitious posting history here sorry no one is buying what you’re selling.

Talk about a guy who peaked then crashed. Allen had a .750 winning percentage at UNI. .370 in the 14 years following.
BTW, we may have ended up with Allen had he not had some controversy at KU. He was accused of protecting players accused of sexual assault. Guess he was using the Nebraska model to build the Jayhawks.

That’s one way to spin it…

Barta did not hire Kirk

Barta gave Kirk ridiculous contract extensions
Barta hired the BBall coach that led the worst three year history in Iowa bball

Wrestling has always been a top program and Brands was coming back to Iowa to coach even if Elmer Fudd was the AD (which he sort of was)

Barta did make a great hire with Heller

Bluder has been good - the run to the title is Iowa landed arguably the best women’s player in modern times (ie a Jordan, or a Magic)
Barta fumbled the Brian Ferentz “stipulations” for this coming season instead of actually doing his job and replacing a coach who has drastically underperformed.
Barta fumbled women’s field hockey debacle …
Barta road the coattails of the football program. Iowa has a passionate fan base that will always donate money.

Barta has gone the longevity road
by keeping McCaffery - despite a .500 Big 10 record.

Lots of ADs out there would have success raising money at Iowa. And tv money has also been kind for Barta.

Let’s not act like Barta has overhauled and elevated our sports (outside of baseball)…

The main sports are about where they’ve always been … (not excluding the CClark effect)….

Barta has been pretty average when you look at the big picture.

and you still a complete moron. Fran has had just 2 losing seasons out of 13 that he has been here. and 3 BT losing season, that makes 10 BT winning seasons and 11 overall.

Barta was responsible for getting the renovation to Carver finally done. he was responsible for raising the money for the North End zone renovation totaling over $80,000,000. then there was the money for the new practice facility and the new FB Complex, all that cost over $300,000,000 not exactly chump change and Barta did that.

the Track and Field team are improving every year, he implemented the women's rowing and they are succeeding. there were multiple programs across the country that were cut because of covid. so stop acting like it only happened at Iowa. just like the Rhabdo was not just a Iowa thing.

it happened at South Carolina and Oregon to name 2 notable schools.so get the F*** OFF your high horse before you fall off and hurt yourself.

“he implemented the women's rowing and they are succeeding.”

You were on a roll and then you threw that in.

Maybe you meant women’s wrestling?
How did that sport come to be? Hmmm, Barta did cause it…. After ????

I meant women rowing
as for women's wrestling that has not started yet but it is getting off on the right foot. but that probally pisses off that Barta got that started.

Barta did a lot of good things with fundraising, upgrading facilities etc. did a good job of retaining successful coaches while also making some good hires in the non-revenue sports as well.

On the flip side, he has also not done well on the legal front; in particular I believe the Griesbaum lawsuit where they tried to establish that she created a toxic relationship but somehow failed to provide documentation supporting such complaints. Losing $11+ million in lawsuits and settlements isn’t a good thing. He also showed himself to be a poor contract negotiator. Lastly, has seemingly done his best to hold NIL at arms length, hampering Swarm Collective fundraiser efforts.

Overall more good than bad but imo the negatives are pretty substantial.

the NIL was a non factor has there was no money to spend. this year they had money and they used it getting these in
BB Krikke
Braun

in FB
Cade
All
Parker
Feth
Brown
Jackson
Hill

and they are still trying to get a CB out of the portal. its amazing what can e done if there is some money available, the head of the sarm as already stated that they didn't have enough money for the BB team.

what this just showed that if there is money it will be used in the future. the best thing is they can be very picky in who they go after in the portal

hopefully there will be more money for the BB team both Men and Women going forward.

Here’s a blurb about rowing

“Rowing is Iowa's largest women's sport, with up to 80 participants. Kowal headed the program since it assumed varsity status in 1994.”

Not sure when Barta got here but 1994 seems early to me. Why did that coach resign in 2012? A lawsuit…. Who was the AD for that?

It’s been well documented that Barta has only begrudgingly cooperated with the Swarm Collective. Other athletic departments have fostered far more closer relationships and imo that’s going to considerably be of greater benefit in the long run than what we currently have between Barta and Swarm.

Without that, I think what the Swarm can do will not have as a high a ceiling than what other collectives are capable of. Heck, look at women’s hoops. LSU practically BOUGHT a new set of transfers to put them in prime position to repeat. We have the best player in the country and couldn’t get a sniff of interest in any of those elite prospects.

what did the swarm director say they needed another 10,000 members to really compete. the state of Iowa just does not have the big money boosters to compete with the Oregon's and Miami's of the college sports.

but get a bunch of the little guys then they will be able to compete.,

And to do that you need cooperation from the AD.

not really all the swarm needs is the people to sign up on their own.

we will see how much of a impact the new AD has on the boosters. my guess is very little.

Having buy in from the AD really allows collectives to cast wider nets tho - we see this with other schools.

There’s probably, imo, a not non substantial portion of the fan base who think they are linked together.

Simply allowing the swarm collective access to the mailing list would be huge.

how do you know these people want their emails given out? at every game their are booths set up for people to attend, even at the golf events there are booths that are set up.

there are numerous opportuity for the Swarm Promoters to get out and meet potential donors. they can go get a spot in the mall where they can greet people. there are is a lot of space around Kinnick for them to set up a major tent for people to go into to learn all about the swarm and the swarm people can/
will help set up their accounts,

out of roughly 70,000 fans I would think they could get 1000 donors to sign up. do this at a Women's BB game and Men's BB game that should get what another 500 donors, then set up during a wrestling meet.

there are enough venues for the swarm to get donors w/o these emails you so desperately want. it is the face to face contact that works.

Well, if nothing else; in the past year at least Swarm was not allowed to operate booths at athletic events. As for releasing info to a 3rd party, it would be simple to reach out and ask people if they consent to having contact info released to Swarm.

Cooperation could be as simple as picking up the phone and having a conversation, it could be giving the swarm permission to set up a booth in Carver, giving them a discounted rate to set up a major tent at Kinnick, it can take many forms.
