Open letter/suggestions for Tom

lol sorry, my bad, quoted examples from this thread to demonstrate different viewpoints on women’s wrestling other than the “two sides” that MSU claimed
Go get outside opinions. Reach out to guys you may not always agree with or have great relationships with. Listen openly to feedback.

Wouldn’t benefit anyone and nothing good would come from it…. High road is the best road here.

LOL, I was referring to SoCal=1 side and tiltman=other side. Hell, I literally quoted tiltman with my initial response. I wasn't encapsulating EVERYONE into one side or the other. But, that is exactly what tiltman did by saying Kennedy would beat up 83% of this board. Hence, my response. It isn't that hard to read and connect dots.....well, maybe it is hard for some...

Interesting… I don’t believe Tiltman referred to SoCal as a sexist, that was other posters in response to Chips. Unless you can direct me to said comment?

I will happily concede that I took that as inferred instead of a direct statement and will happily withdraw that part. However, you were the one that interjected. If you are hanging on that one word to make such a comment, I still stand firmly by my overall point. Now, off to go pick up the little one from school...

I will happily concede that I misunderstood your post based on your inference. However, you are the one that inferred it. If you don’t think people should be quick to characterize someone as sexist, you shouldn’t be quick to infer that’s their intent. Drive safely.

Yeah…. It isn’t theirs. Deals were broken and backs were stabbed. The women’s team hinders the men’s team because of this and a myriad if other reasons.
How does both teams sharing the same facility hinder the men's team? The increased cost of the facility has been mentioned already and I think that argument makes sense, but are there additional "bad things" about them both being able to use the facility?
Outside of the facility, what are the myriad of other reasons the women's team hinders the men's team?
Genuinely curious because I always thought you were one of the supporters of the women's team from the outset but starting to sound like there exists a lot of angst around the women's team, seemingly out of nowhere

Not out of nowhere and not getting into it.

Very fair response. Determining inference is unreliable. However, when some goes down the road of saying a woman could beat up 83% of men on the board, I felt pretty comfortable with that assumption

Oh, and sitting in the parking lot now waiting, so driving safe went well so far!

Indifferent on women's wrestling, but there are plenty of reasons, even to those who aren't in the know, how the women's team being in the same facility hurts the men. I'm guessing the men aren't allowed in the facility when the women have their time, especially in this day and age. Can you imagine the men and women using the sauna at the same time? That's asking for trouble, especially when AJ comes (I kid on the AJ part, I hope he doesn't set foot on campus again).

Add that the men's program is the one that funded all of the bills and I'm sure human nature and animosity make their way in between the two programs too - that's just the start.

I like two sports, wrestling and football and more PSU than the sports in general. I have zero desire to watch any women's sports, especially combat sports. And unfortunately I think this can affect the men's teams.

165 pound Jared Keslar of Pitt had a losing record this season. He was the number 32 seed at the Nationals and Blades wouldn’t get out of the first period with him. There’s simply a different level of talent and skill in men’s wrestling. Btw what bizarro world have we entered where the guy from super lib LA County is debating a bunch of mid west salt of the earth type dudes the biological inferiority of women vs. men in sports?!
There are reason for sex and weight classes.

You still haven't said *how* it hinders the men's team? Is there not enough space? I find that hard to believe. Are they draining money from donors? What is it?

Dear Tom,

Find a way to keep your guys healthy for March. You can't keep chalking it up to bad luck. It's starting to look like a shoulder brace or knee brace is part of the Iowa uniform.

Kyle Parco, Teemer, Spencer Lee, Ayala, Eirman, Kemerer, Marinelli, DeSanto, Warner, Brands, Murin, Assad, Stoll, Sorenson, Clark, Moore x2, St John, Morningstar, McDonough, Gambrall, Carew etc etc were all seriously hampered by injury.

If we keep saying its "bad luck", and "we like our guys", its never going to improve.

Nearly every injury the past few years has been in match. There’s nothing the staff can do different except yell at the ref to PD the action when a guy is yanking on our guys knee/shoulder.

Interesting as I have sort of a first hand account to their training. This isn't your 2014 Hawkeyes. Things have changed...drastically to include even <gulp> off days. Guys do not wrestle live every day. They are carefully managed.

Your first 5 examples happened in match. Teemer was perhaps the most managed guy...if you heard him after one of the duals back since the injury against ISU, it was the first live wrestling he had done. All of Lee's injuries happened in match. Once in the 2019 finals, again in the 2021 B1G finals. Desanto? He had the RBY match thing but was back in a few weeks. Brands got hit by a car and Stoll shot ffs. We can claim at least a little bad luck there, right?

You’ve been on here long enough to know every percent on this forum is 83%. Did you really think I used some formula and came up with 83% on the dot? Of course you didn’t; you got on here looking to be a douche and stir shit up like normal.

Back to giving Tom some suggestions. I say wee all line up and he tries to takes us down (one at at gem of course). Anyone who gets a takedown on him can offer a suggestion that he has to take and give it at least a one week trial.

If no one takes him down, then we have to try to take Kennedy Blades down.

If no one takes her down, we just throw in the towel and go back to acting like we know what we are talking about on the boards.

Sound fair? :)

Gobblin, I agree with many of your comments on here and I would guess with our respective ties to the program that we have met several times. However, I respectfully disagree that the women's program in any way is an impediment to the men. Maybe you can explain how. To be transparent, I made a fairly significant donation to the building fund in part because the women were getting equal access to the facilities. I had not heard that others made commitments under different conditions. Would honestly like to hear more. I don't really understand the issue, both teams have access to "the best training facility in the world". Why does it have to be an issue between the men and women?

You are welcome to that opinion. It is wrong, but you are welcome to it. Just because you mask an ignorant comment with an old joke doesn’t make it any less ignorant. As soon as you talk about a girl beating up most men, your credibility goes out the window…

That "girl" also happens to be one of the best wrestlers on the entire planet. Most men don't even know how to change a flat tire or start a mower and you expect them to put up much of a fight?

Blades would put your dick in the dirt inside 60 seconds.

Absolutely. I think she might have TF her way through the entire season.

Sorry, you obviously don’t know me very well. He didn’t even say wrestling, he said beat up. I am fairly well trained and not one those “fat” guys that were referenced.

With that said, it does me no good to have this argument. Either way, you are either a ponce for bragging about being able to beat up a girl or you are the “weakling” that a girl can beat up.

Even if you go to only wrestling I am damn near 50, so I would hope she could wear me out over the long term. But, if you don’t think the first time I get my hands on her she doesn’t feel a strength she never came close to feeling wrestling other girls you are a complete fool…

Invest NIL money on some blue chip top tier high school recruits over the next few years.

Bring back Kem Dawg in some capacity.

Send Spencer and Kaleb Young out to PA and start getting the top tier Young Guns kids from Strittmatter. We have no chance at Askren kids.

Get Buchanan to stick around a few years at the RTC.

The women have separate saunas, ice baths and whirlpools. The only things shared are mats and weights. I would think with all the mats they have a couple of guys could get a workout in when the women are practicing, and I doubt they're using the same dumbells. I could be wrong. I understand the fundraising thing though, and I gather from this thread some big donors aren't happy with it. I wish now I had asked Doug G about it the last time I saw him. I'll never know his opinion on it now. RIP, Doug.

With all due respect I don’t want to speak on it any further publicly, but I, and likely several others, would be happy to discuss things personally with you anytime. Go Hawks!

Seriously? I am not the one that went there. 2 different people are screaming from the mountaintops that a girl would "beat up" basically everyone on this board and one of them doubled down to me specifically saying it would take less than a minute.

I am sorry, but this is the kind of stupidity that played a huge part in deciding an election(not talking politics, other than stating one positional fact). Everyone was fear mongered into being afraid of speaking the truth and it let this type of stupidity be talked about so much that many started to believe it.

You had McEnroe almost cancelled because of what he said about Serena, only to have Serena herself 100% agree with him. You had the women's soccer team complain about inequality even though they lost to a boys 15 and under team while obviously generating a small fraction of revenue the men do.

Look, I made it VERY clear that there is a great place for women's wrestling and I respect the hell out of it. But, I am also not going to stand by and let ignorance run rampant. There is a VERY distinct reason why a girl has never wrestled men's DI.

Women are amazing and there are plenty of things they are not just as good as men at, but clearly better. That simply just doesn't apply in this case.

What are they better sports wise? Even in gymnastics lower level men have no difficulty doing female routines. Now if you mean things in general, definitely .

But sports? Nope.

Yes, I was mainly referring to areas outside of sports, but, there definitely is a certain level of finesse and technique in floor and beam exercises that women are much better at than men in gymnastics. Ice skating is another that comes to mind. When it comes to finesse and visible technique, in sports where you are actually judged by it, the women do excel at it even better than men. Hell, when it comes to golf, I would say many women have much better "fundamentals". Part of that is because men are now prone to "overpower" a golf course, but if you watch many women's swings on tour, there are many that are more fundamentally sound than the men. They just simply lack the power the men generate.

However, yes, your overall point stands. Men and women are physically different in such a way that men are much more designed for power and speed, which are both almost always 2 of the most important things in sports. As a result, the gap is normally quite wide when comparing the 2 ...
