We played bad. Really bad. Not even close to the potential of this team. Make 3-4 more open three's, half of our free throw misses, and cut the turnovers in half, you have a Hawkeye victory by a comfortable margin.
Now, credit goes to Gonzaga. Suggs is the real deal and he was on fire. Their defense is better than anything we've faced and it's the type of elite team we will have to beat if we want to make a deep run.
I'm thankful that we've had our dud now. This is the perfect time to play bad, and the opponent couldn't have been better. If we meet again, it's hard to imagine Suggs going off like he did and Iowa shooting as poorly as it did.
Couple things I want to see moving forward:
1. JBo called iowa the best team in the country. I'm a huge fan of confidence and believing you will win, but he hasn't walked the walk this year. JBo is my favorite player, but he's gotta be better for this team to make a run. The time is now to focus and play like a 5th year senior and put the foot on the gas
2. No more Nunge jumpers. Let's keep him in the paint until his shot is a little more refined. Too many times he takes a quick shot and it will kill any momentum or waste a possession. He's going to be a great hawk, but there's no room for hero ball off the bench with the pieces on this team. Overall, I love what I'm seeing from Nunge when shots aren't forced
3. Too many point guard turnovers. For JBo, see number 1. For JoeT, just chill out my dude! He's shown some great flashes. Just gotta play a little more in control. If these 2 cut their silly turnovers this game is much closer.
