OT: Iowa HS Football Playoffs

4A CF or Valley if I had to guess.

3A I’d be shocked if Xavier doesn’t roll throughout the playoffs.

2A I’m a homer for Algona, my wife’s hometown (no pics).

1A OSAGE GREEN DEVILS. My alma mater.

A Bishop Garrigan, my wife’s alma mater (still no pics)

8 man I’ll go with Northwood Kensett a former conference rival of Osage from the olden days. Their win over Don Bosco earlier this season was impressive.

Don't count out North Scott. First year in 3A and they have been playing really, really well. Only lose was to I.C. West the first game before they found their offense.

3A. Lewis Central is the best team in the state and would probably win 4A, and it pains me to say that

Eastern Iowa 4A schools get dominated by Des Moines every year. This year will be no different. Quality of talent, play, coaching just way better out here. My money would be on Valley or Centennial.

Xavier will win 3A title.

Saying Lewis Central would win 4A is just a special kind of stupid.
Just saying. I've talked to guys that have reffed these games and they were telling me Lewis Central is the best team in the state.

Hell, it's not my team, I'm a Heelan guy.

This....Bettendorf also barely beat Hempstead early on. If not for some bad chop block calls Hempstead wins. Hempstead loaded with Sophs.

As I recall, Porter was hurt that game, and I think they may have been dealing with some other injuries at the time too.

Miller looked amazing against Centennial a few weeks ago, and Duggan didn't look that great in the playoff game last year.

I am guessing the guys that have to go around them probably has something to do with that especially up front. Duggan was running for his life from the snap. I haven't watched Fort Dodge but looking at their season it appears they have some talent around him. But, who knows, maybe basically every Power 5 coaching staff and myself are wrong and you are right.

It was a perfect storm really. The implementation of the RPI, the reduction of class 4A from 48 to 42 teams, and an unusually high number of mediocre teams in 4A this year. SE Polk probably would never have gotten in any other year.

First half of SE Polk's schedule was a meatgrinder.

@ Valley
Waukee
@ IC West
DSM East
Fort Dodge
@ Centennial

Solon would win the whole thing regardless of class. They're just more talented than DM and CR schools. Fact!

Ya, gonzo, i see you giva se polk sone consideration for having a tough schedule, but not for iowa state for having da #1 schedule ytd, i see how you work lol

Unfortunately, their defense is as bad as their QB is good.
And they also pride themselves on getting lots of dumb penalties and personal fouls and then complain that refs shouldn't have called so many on them, or that they needed to be more disciplined.......even though this is a thing each game and each year.

Nttawwt....

TCU and Oklahoma State aren't any good. Why do Cyclone fans keep perpetuating their SOS myths?
Ya, please see da following link, I just look at objective data:

https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/ranking/schedule-strength-by-other

Maybe jump out of the simple cave man point of view:
- B1G - GREAT!! Our middle name is DEFENSE; we are UNDER-RATED; 2 Teams should be in CFP.
- B12 - BAD!! Can't even spell DEFENSE; they are OVER-RATED; 0 Teams should be in CFP.

Have I got it right? LOL

What does the link you posted have to do with anything I said?

Also, why do you keep saying "da"? Are you the fat Godfather's spokesman or just a huge douche?

I'm taking Van Meter in 1A, watched them play earlier this season and they are probably the fastest team in Class 1A. Their quarterback Pothoff is a nightmare to scheme against. The term to describe their running back is a "rolling ball of butcher knives". See no reason why they don't repeat.

My Tigers kind of put the hammer to Heelan last night, and had 5 turnovers in the process. Crazy stuff.

Spencer's D sounded like it was pretty good last night. I think Heelan scored 1 of their two TD's when a guy stepped in and snared a pitchout and took it to the house the other way. Don't see that every day! Tigers are decent, Not expecting them to go too far, but they are in. Good luck to your Crusaders as well.

It's just that I'm reading two contradictory things in this thread. On one hand, there is someone saying that Lewis Central is better than anyone in 4A. But they had Duggan last year, and the talent around him wasn't good enough to even be competitive against Centennial. A few weeks ago, Miller led Fort Dodge to a near-upset of Centennial by putting more points on them in one night than their other 8 opponents combined. Either Miller is in the same class as Duggan as a high school quarterback, or LC doesn't have nearly enough talent around Duggan for people to be claiming that they are better than the top 4A teams. I know it's high school football and weird things can happen, but last year's LC team was physically man-handled by Centennial.

I never claimed that LC was better than the 4A teams. I can see why people have made this claim though. Centennial is good, but I think most would say Centennial was better last year. Dowling was better last year. So, with those teams theoretically being down, and LC being better than last year, I could see some making that claim. I never did and won't, but I can see why.

My claim was that Miller is not better than Duggan, and I will stand by that all the way. I don't think it's close.

Xavier is good in 3A but look out for North Scott. They are pretty good.

I hate the current playoff system and it needs to change. 7-2 teams should not be left out. I’d say 24-32 teams is just right. Every other state you have teams that have 2-3 wins make post season.

Actually, under previous formats, there have been 7-2 teams to miss the playoffs, or had to go on the road in the old 32-team field (which means they too would have missed had it been 16). That used to be more common in 4A when there were 48 teams. But with the teams that moved down to 3A, most of those teams (Waterloo East notwithstanding) were competitive to very good teams in 4A. That made the 3A field deeper IMHO.
