Other games.

Not really the right thread for his, but Holtmann was at least a couple feet out on the floor coaching during live action, and no T for being outside 'the box'.

Just saying that its funny that something like that is allowed without a hint of even a warning, but Fran was T'd up for supposedly doing the same the other night @ NW, in terms of having 'left the coaching box' - only not as far out on the floor as Holtmann was.
Different rules for different coaches.

Is Northwestern a possible Sweet16 (or even more) team this year?

Man, they are firing on all cylinders currently - and have been for about 3 weeks now.

Taking a 37-19 lead to the locker room at the half, AT Illinois.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with anything that Fran said.

If they hold onto this, Northwestern will be 8-4 in Q1; 12-7 Q1&2. This includes 4-0 against Q1A and a 7-2 road record. They have to be approaching 5 seed territory, maybe even 4 seed.

Rightfully so - especially since the tourney will be right in their own backyard - but I think its safe to say that N'western will be this year's 'BTT darling'. At least going into it, and until they lose (if they do).

Pretty much nearly the same trajectory and story of Iowa last season. [IE, hot last month+ of the season, won most of those games, defense was as important as offense in said run, etc]

At least Iowa's got company in the recent struggles.

Rutgers just got smoked at home by Michigan.

Which is actually kind of maddening, because Michigan sucked earlier this season and is now 10-7, tied with-but-right behind IU in the race to the BTT's 'Top 4'.

Man, I know life on the road in the B1G is as tough as ever this year.

But you had an EIGHTEEN point lead at halftime, Cats.

Ugh!

You mean the team that had to replace 5 starters from last year?
They'll be replacing Shannon, Mayer, and likely Hawkins this year as well. In the new portal era, I don't necessarily think that just because they replaced starters mean we shouldn't expect much. Illinois was a consensus pre-season top 3 in the Big Ten because of Mayer and Shannon and their 5 star PG who's no longer on the team.

And now we are…in 3rd place! (Albeit a tie for 3rd) So not sure how that makes us the most disappointing team 🤔

We have definitely struggled at times however due to bad 3-pt shooting. Goode injured most of the year and Melendez in a slump half the year has cost us a couple games. Not completely different from Iowa in that regard. Although you guys can’t seem to shoot well on the road, for us it just varies game to game and we can shoot crappy at home just as well as we can on the road.

I'm not saying Illinois is bad--but let's be honest here, Illinois being on the projected 6/7 seed line isn't exactly what the hopes were coming into the season. Nowhere near the levels of disappointment that #1 preseason North Carolina is having or the disappointment that Ohio State is having in the Big Ten, but I think it's fair to say Illinois' season has been a slight disappointment relative to expectations, yeah?

Hard to predict how the B1G will do in the dance. Lots of pretty good teams that can beat anyone, but the same teams can easily lose to other pretty good teams. No powerhouse teams this year, so the dance will be about match ups (as always) and who gets hot at the right time.

Depends for me. A 6-seed could have been my reasonable expectation to start the year after losing so much and needing so many transfers and young guys to gel. However, after beating #9 UCLA and #2 Texas on neutral courts, I was definitely dreaming of a 3-seed or higher.

Honestly from the early December high to the low point of 0-3 in the Big Ten/Skyy Clark leaving in January, to getting back on track, it’s just been a weird and exhausting year, haha.

Has any team in the Big been more disappointing than Illini? I remember the fancrush for them on here back in November.

? Ohio State is more disappointing by orders of magnitude. IU is also more disappointing because they were the preseason pic to win the league. Wisconsin might very well miss the tourney...

Odd take.
Odd that you dig up a post from weeks ago without context and then ignore my follow up.

My statement was based upon how man fans on here were impressed with Illinois in November And early December.

Antoine Davis scored 34 points earlier today (on 33 field goal attempts) and is 64 points away from breaking Pete Maravich's all-time record. He starts his conference tournament on Tuesday.

He's averaging SIX made 3s a game in his last 13 game on 46% shooting.

Iowa State is broken right now. 22 second half points at home.

They're firmly in, but a 17-14 (8-10) finish would drop them down to a 9/10 seed.

I don't know if I can remember a day in the regular season of college basketball like this. Insane endings galore.
If there ever was a day I was thankful to be sick, it was this one.

Indiana really playing well. Unlikely W for the Hawks at IU this week.

And my gosh.... Purdue is 3/20 from 3. I'm ready for an opponent to shoot like that against us AND for the Hawks to shoot well!

How bad is Indy gonna beat the hawks?
Maybe Iowa shoots 17/36 from 3 again. Unlikely, but I'm hoping the guys play a bit more relaxed after today's performance. One things for sure is that arena is going to be juiced. Indiana fans haven't stopped ranting about Fran since the last game.

Big understatement.

Unless Indiana is very cold from the floor, and Iowa bucks its own recent trend of shooting ~10% on the road, this is will sadly be a boatrace in the Hoosiers' favor.
